And Another Thing..., by Poly Mindset on Sept 12, 2014 8:53:44 GMT 1, I saw a good movie tonight called "Words and Pictures", starring Clive Owen. I just want to thank all of you painters and writers and musicians and really all artists out there for elevating this world. To all the haters and people who don't get it, I feel nothing but pity for you. Please everyone enjoy all that this world and the good people in have to offer, and for Gods sake smile.

Banksy print, by Poly Mindset on Sept 5, 2014 16:56:17 GMT 1, Hey there, it's best not to float a piece with considerable value unless the framer uses Japanese hinges, and not many framers know how to do that correctly. The reason you don't want to float it is because they have to use adhesives on the back of the piece. If you ever want to resell it the adhesive is difficult to remove(although it can be done) and most collectors don't want any adhesive on their pictures. Also there is a chance that when the adhesive is removed some paper may come off with it. Basically it devalues the piece. Additionally you would have to pay a professional to remove the adhesive. It's best to just frame the piece using spacers between the art and the plexiglass.

How would you frame it ?, by Poly Mindset on Aug 29, 2014 20:27:58 GMT 1, Hey there, I just took an large format Obey 42" x 42" on thick paper to my framers last night. It can be floated but will require a lot of adhesive in the form of tape or hinges, you don't want to do that. Also the difference between regular UV plexi and museum UV plexi is the non glare/clarity factor and it also reduces finger prints immensely. On a large piece you don't want glass, it will be too heavy. Yes, the proper way to frame a large piece is using spacers between the plexi and the art and foam board behind the art and no adhesive at all ever. My cost was $625 with a very nice 3" wide frame and museum plexi. pm me if you want the framer I use. I'm in So. Cal. Good Luck

Wedding Sale, Faile HED, KAWS, Todd James, Dface, Supine, by Poly Mindset on Aug 24, 2014 3:30:22 GMT 1, Oh yeah, that Faile is priced right especially framed. All these Banksy prints just don't compare to all the hand work that go into Faile's pieces. They are small editions and every one of them is really an hpm. The really good small edition pieces are harder and harder to come by, nobody wants to let them go. It's simple supply and demand economics. Not to mention they are beautiful works of art. Stick to your guns, I know a few people who paid $6000 for that piece.

Top 10 Urban Artists, by Poly Mindset on Aug 3, 2014 17:52:58 GMT 1, Yes, he. Judith Supine has used his mother's name since his early days so if the cops were looking for whoever did his wheatpaste pieces they would arrest his mother instead of him. Quite a funny concept really.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Poly Mindset on Aug 2, 2014 2:28:28 GMT 1, Yes, it's done by William Zdan. He's out of Southern California and is extremely talented, and gaining more and more notoriety. This one is called "Twins" and is oil on distressed board. Most of his work is rather dark in subject. When I look at it I can't believe it's an oil painting, it's sooo good. I believe he has a web site but doesn't sell his pieces there. I think most are sold at gallery shows.

Preserving your art, by Poly Mindset on Jul 25, 2014 15:28:35 GMT 1, There has been some debate on whether or not conservation acrylic can actually touch the piece of art. Glass should never touch the artwork because it contains lead which draws in moisture from the air, but acrylic contains no lead so no moisture will be drawn in, so I've heard. I have been arguing with other forum members that acrylic touching art is OK. There seems to be a difference in opinion on this but nobody has any documentation supporting their opinion. So I have been searching and searching for some authoritarian documentation from a reputable source to back up either claim. I finally found something and I must admit that I am wrong. The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) has stated on their web page in an article entitled Caring for Your Treasures that, " Whether you chose glass or acrylic, always be sure that the glazing material does not come into direct contact with the surface of the artifact. Prolonged contact of the glazing with the surface of the artifact can result in its adhesion to the glazing, or can cause surface changes in the work. A thick mat or a spacer in the frame will keep the artifact from touching the glazing". I have proven myself wrong for the benefit of other forum members and no longer feel worthy of being on this forum. So to all the forum members who I have gotten to know and love so dearly, I must tearfully say goodbye.
Just kidding Mother F&#%ers. This is the best forum ever and I'll never leave.

Obey - info on forthcoming work, by Poly Mindset on Jul 17, 2014 20:13:34 GMT 1, Good for you, I am sincerely happy for the people who got through. I kept refreshing probably 20 times, thought I'd wear out the F5 button and it did refresh but could only get to the buy now icon and no further. This was just a cluster F#%* as far as I'm concerned. I should think that Obey and GP should anticipate extreme numbers for their good drops and have the equipment to handle it. They don't, and as a consumer when this happens I am put off for future drops. There are too many other nice pieces of art to purchase at other sites without this kind of Bull S*&#. Get it together. One less fan.

Obey - info on forthcoming work, by Poly Mindset on Jul 17, 2014 18:26:10 GMT 1, You would think with all the money Shepard Fairey has he could invest in a good computer system that can handle the load. He's so into helping out so many causes, what about helping out his fans getting through his network to buy an Obey piece of art. Between this and GP drops I'm really pissed.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by Poly Mindset on Jul 11, 2014 7:26:45 GMT 1, I've read that on a purely molecular level it is the lead in glass that draws moisture from the air, since plexi has no lead no moisture is created. Additionally, the old adage that a picture needs to "breathe" has been dismissed by conservationists. Just being the devil's advocate here. Does anyone have any reference to any studies done on this topic, cause it sure seems like a very gray area.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by Poly Mindset on Jul 11, 2014 6:20:46 GMT 1, I've been told by numerous framers that glass touching an image is not a good thing because the print and especially photos will eventually stick to the glass. However, if it is museum conservation plexiglass/acrylic then the image or even a photo will not stick to it and the image can touch and you don't need spacers. Has anyone ever had a problem with museum plexi/acrylic? Please chime in.

Faile - Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom - Thoughts?, by Poly Mindset on Jul 4, 2014 2:08:05 GMT 1, I concur, very different images than we're use to seeing. I've only seen them online and from a price sheet from the gallery. I really like "This One's Just Right" , "Guaranteed to Perform", "The Finest Faile Bros", "Young Minds, Silent City" and of course the cool car images. Some of them do seem like rougher images and then some are very fine and highly detailed. It's almost like a half and half show. Wish I could be there to see them in person I'm sure I'd appreciate the rougher images more. All in all, great work as one would expect from such talented guys. It seems the show definitely lives up to it's title, "Fuel, Fantasy, Freedom" .
