Interesting Violin Rat 'original street piece' on ebay, by settingson on Jul 16, 2014 0:56:18 GMT 1, Newly listed? Its been on ebay for weeks. Wont get PC COA so is pretty much worthless real or not. My apologies then. Only saw it this evening and it was showing newly listed. Hadn't noticed it anywhere so assumed it was new not relisted.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by settingson on Jul 11, 2014 0:04:56 GMT 1, My understanding was that if it is float mounted it is attached from behind the print and the glass shouldn't be holding it in place. The spacers give depth and keep the print away from the glass as far as I'm aware. I would be questioning him if he was actually intending to float it if what he said to you about the glass was heard correctly. There are some great threads in the framing section on here for finding out more about it.

Martin Whatson - OSS, by settingson on Jul 10, 2014 13:51:38 GMT 1, Been keeping one eye out on these myself recently but just eaten into the funds I was putting aside to buy something else but there have been a few on ebay not selling over the past few weeks and several presently up at a reduced starting price so might be worth a viewing. Was just about getting to the throw an offer in stage when something else caught my eye. Hope you get one, I really like it.

Anthony Lister "Frilly Pix" New Print, by settingson on Jun 17, 2014 14:58:31 GMT 1, Mine arrived today also. Was a good day as my Whatson came as well. Really like this one, lots of colour and definitely feel it is a better print than the Stripper that came a few weeks back as felt a little disappointed in that one. Hopefully the two framed up and hung together will give a bit more life to the Stripper. "give a bit life to the stripper" Aah haha Always have had a preference for strippers with a bit of life in them!

Martin Whatson - Less is More, by settingson on Jun 17, 2014 14:41:36 GMT 1, Mine arrived today....yay! Was a bit concerned that without the colour it would feel a bit flat and was almost hoping that the images at the time of sale disguised some colour in it but it is pretty much as shown on those images. That said because of the size of the print I feel it carries it off well and the imagery and message does interact well. I think on the smaller images it doesn't give the context of seeing it on the full size print. As it's my first Whatson I am genuinely pleased although I must admit I probably have a preference for some of his earlier prints with the coloured graffiti and will look to add them when I can get them matching my budget!

Refreshed rapidly, finger on buy button and pretty immediate attempt but all carted within a few seconds. I know people had said it was fast but I am amazed!!

Art Car Boot Fair, by settingson on Jun 6, 2014 11:36:15 GMT 1, If you want to keep your cache clean and safe i would opt for a decent sized tube. Thanks for the advice. I'll bring one with me. So hoping to get an Eine but I'm already prepping myself for that feeling of disappointment!

Art Car Boot Fair, by settingson on Jun 6, 2014 11:10:07 GMT 1, This may seem like a random question, but will they be providing tubes to store our prints in after we have purchased or would you recommend bringing some of your own or a portfolio with you? Have just booked ticket to travel down and was just thinking exactly the same thing! Good question!

Art Car Boot Fair, by settingson on Jun 5, 2014 19:15:41 GMT 1, I'm planning on going to this, first time for me and looking forward to it Still deciding whether to push the button on committing to the train fares and travelling down. I've also not been before but with Blake and Eine there I am sorely tempted, not that I hold much hope of getting one of their prints, but hey ho, looks a good day out!

Your latest Art Purchase?, by settingson on Jun 4, 2014 15:45:24 GMT 1, Had mine arrive yesterday, the Sandra Chevrier. A really lovely print, very pleased with it and it also survived the journey but as you say wasn't best packed. Would it have been that hard for them to pack the ends a little rather than a rolled up print bouncing around loosely. Even me as a novice would have packed it better!

What art would you buy for around the ยฃ300 mark?, by settingson on Jun 2, 2014 16:54:32 GMT 1, Thanks all for input. Like the stuff dface has done and more so his newer ones! Just want them to feature throughout the house instead of having one expensive one in the middle. Really like some of lora zombies prints but they all seem to be open editions!? Would you stay clear? New to the purchasing of art myself but been on here a few weeks now and have really enjoyed researching the different artists as people mention names that are new to me and although I have been on a bit of a spending spree since joining I probably currently look at ยฃ300 as a maximum for myself on any one print so I know where you are coming from. My humble advice is firstly bide your time, do your research on prints that you see that you like as sometimes the releasing galleries still have them although on places like ebay they are being offered at a premium. I also check regularly the new releases where at least if you like the print under release it is at source price. I've also had the pleasure of buying off members on here and found that the art for sale thread is a mine of information on prints that I would never have discovered otherwise. Members have been really helpful and it seems to be a great place to pick up a few prints that are maybe well known from a few years back but have served their time on a wall or in a portfolio and haven't necessarily escalated in value since release and they then get moved on as members seek to buy newer pieces. I've brought prints that I like and it probably is quite an eclectic mix but I'm really enjoying it and hope you get the same buzz when you spend your hard earned! Good luck!

Art Car Boot Fair, by settingson on Jun 2, 2014 16:05:05 GMT 1, Been contemplating heading down to this as it looks fun but looks like the train's not so brilliant for getting into London early enough to queue for any of the big names. Does the rest of the stuff for sale also fly out like lightning to those that have queued since the early hours or would arriving in the queue around 10.30 leave you some chance of a few purchases and an interesting day out? Just been announced that Eine going to be there as well so finding it even more tempting.

It's a lot like record collecting!, by settingson on Jun 1, 2014 22:55:09 GMT 1, Think your right there Feral and going back to the original post know the prices are different between records and prints originals etc. but as mentioned the concept is very similar. Artists influences and stuff as you look back etc. but buying tunes was also often based on new releases, latest album etc as well as coming across someone new to you and exploring their work further. I suppose I would connect owning art like owning records in that of course it's the work you like but you enjoy hearing it for awhile then hear something new and listen to it delving back now and again etc. hearing something new or a different genre does not devalu the other and for me art is similar in that sense. Like tunes you also look back at something's and think " what the fuk were you doing??" But it all. Reflects who you are, were, who you knew, what you thought a diary in fact formyself as it all means something or is a slice of time my time and a bands time or an artists time and whatever that connection is. You look at some of the collections of tunes some of the big ones displayed are like a weekly diary of someone's life Have to agree so much with what johnnyh has written here. It also struck me how like my music taste there is so much variation in the style of art that I have so far come across that I like with some of it being apparently very simple and has you thinking 'I could have done that but I just wouldn't have thought of it' to the majority of it being impossible to even have contemplated. Contrasts nicely to the music side of things where although I'm pretty good with words I don't have the imagination to write lyrics and where having never been able to play an instrument in my life the actual music side of things is totally beyond me! Thankfully there are enough people out there with such talents so I've decided it's safe for me to just relax and leave them to it!

It's a lot like record collecting!, by settingson on May 31, 2014 20:58:22 GMT 1, I've been a record collector (punk/indie/hardcore/etc) for about the last 15 or so years...I'm now selling a lot of my collection minus the essentials to fund art purchases. Also selling a lot of my non-essential guitar gear too. Not sure what that says about me... Think I can see a number of my collection going that way. So much of it doesn't see the light of day anymore. I'm pretty much the punk/indie collector too! Starting to drift towards iTunes for newer material these days although still buy vinyl.

It's a lot like record collecting!, by settingson on May 30, 2014 11:49:28 GMT 1, Following my first few weeks on here I have decided that the art world is very much like my record collecting experience! Funny really as I probably wasn't expecting it to be like that. I see it a bit like this but it's just as a light hearted comparison and I am not meaning to be judgemental in any form: In the main new artists come along doing their own thing and those good enough get a solid following who like their work, then they get noticed, picked up and taken on by a label/gallery and then all new releases, usually limited, get sold out quickly as word spreads and popularity rises and those that were there in the beginning usually have a few rarities in their hands from the early days which they cherish. Prices get competitive especially for early releases and then the offloading starts on the auction sites with prices escalating and those with the cherished items start to see the ยฃs in their eyes and their cherished items aren't so cherished anymore! The next few releases come out in bigger numbers and although often priced higher they are more accessible so are brought by a wider and more diverse population. Next comes the interesting bit as new bands now sometimes only have a shelf life of only a few months or so before the aftermarket starts to fall, levels out or collapses altogether! I get the feeling that the shelf life is a little longer in the art world but still follows a similar route apart from one or two that really break through. I imagine there are examples of all 3 experiences in everyone's portfolios! I have loads of vinyl of what were going to be the next big thing which are quite worthless now but the times spent at gigs, discussing it with friends and appreciating it live on! After all the releases yesterday it just struck me as being similar. I have to stress that I have collected records because I love my live gigs and music and if in future I get half the enjoyment from my future art purchases I will be happy!

EINE โข Tenderloin AZ Prints, by settingson on May 29, 2014 23:15:10 GMT 1, Been considering one of these as they do look stunning. It's the cost of framing on top for a man of my meagre means that makes me hesitant and I imagine that's why a few are sat in portfolios! I also can't decide which background I prefer but it is tempting!
