Banksy: Next Print... Ideas??, by jam on Jan 20, 2008 22:40:19 GMT 1, I think the 'Ratapult' would be a great image to do as a diptych print so you could get a nice distance effect by spreading out the two prints. Here's to hoping!

Banksy V Damien Hirst, by jam on Jan 18, 2008 6:34:32 GMT 1, Wasn't it the Tate that is very short on money to make any acquisitions right now. If I do recall correctly Hirst just donated a couple of paintings to them because they couldn't afford to buy any.
Superb gesture if thats fact.
Note to self: Message Damien and let him know I too am low on funds for acquisition of original Hirst pieces, perhaps he will donate one to me as well! ;D

Why are so many people selling thier Micallef's?, by jam on Jan 3, 2008 20:20:30 GMT 1, People who were in Micallef strictly as an investment started panic selling when prices fluctuated downward. AM wanted to drive prices down some so they could get into the hands of fans, so he releases tons of prints for his LA show. This began the over saturation of the market for his work and prices went south. It was perpetuated by time of year and many 'investors' not taking the factor of less money being available to spend on art as is always the case around Christmas and how that was sure to effect prices across the board. This brings us to a point where prices are low enough that most anyone who wants Micallef can buy his prints at reasonable prices and availability. Now that we are through the holiday spending drought, people will open back up to spend on art again, and just in time to see sweet deals on Micallef prints and a fair amount of them on the market. As they clear out the market and prints are firmly in the hands of collectors, prices will rise again and perhaps be stronger as only true fans will have his stuff and likely not be swayed to sell to make a few quid. Longterm, this rollercoaster with Micallef's prints will appear as we well planned and well executed altering of his market.

Watershed, by jam on Dec 30, 2007 9:48:39 GMT 1, Good god I wish I hadn't seen this thread and subsequently, that video. I watched some reactions on youtube and thought 'how bad can it be'... well, its that bad. WTF is wrong with people?! The reaction vids are funny as hell to see though, this one is a reaction to the second video.

GIWTBB, by jam on Dec 22, 2007 21:56:33 GMT 1, I agree... 3 months is well beyond patient (unless you live on Mars).
Check your balance to make sure the dosh was taken for the print, then forward the confirmation page to Dora and let her know you are concerned about the prints whereabouts. I would expect she will sort it out once she has some breathing room from the Ghetto & Holidays.

A new forum low??, by jam on Dec 14, 2007 10:19:33 GMT 1, funster - Absolutely disgusting behavior and I am sorry you had to deal with some slickster doing this to ya. I would out the POS so everyone knows to steer clear of 'em, but thats just me.
+1 for your efforts to help have someone appreciative get a print that would otherwise be stored away, and I hope if anyone else on the forum is as benevolent that photos of the print framed and hanging will be posted so that the facilitator will see the appreciation most members would show.

Damien Hirst Superstition Poster, by jam on Dec 14, 2007 10:45:34 GMT 1, Be careful with these posters... the last time they released signed Hirst posters that they said they only had 100 of them and it turned out they only had 100 at the time of release and more came up in later days as it was not a limited run.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by jam on Dec 12, 2007 13:03:02 GMT 1, I would have thought 7 & 8 would grab a bit more...
Ahhh... but they will arcam. Sothebys balances high estimates to grab headlines with low estimates to lure people in that think they have a chance to get something cheap, then the bidding starts and folks get caught up in the moment and pay much more than they normally would. Look for these to each eclipse 30k minumim.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by jam on Dec 12, 2007 12:18:59 GMT 1, Does anyone know if the Sotheby's auction with the Banksy's/Neates/Failes thats on today will be shown live??
I don't see the live link for this sale, so it looks like we will not be able to watch.
On the bright side, if you go to the Sothebys homepage, you can get a streaming auction results ticker to see what results are.

the neate auction, by jam on Dec 12, 2007 3:15:26 GMT 1, ....... I would rather buy one from elms and get a massive parla too than spend £50k on the secondary market, but think in a years time his originals will be amazingly expensive
Aren't the big Parla canvases around 25-30k and up now? Not trying to undermine what you are saying as I think its a better plan to buy from Elms to cultivate that relationship over bidding against people at auction, but I thought the Parlas were getting up with the Neates in price too.

PoW Discriminating against locals??, by jam on Dec 8, 2007 12:37:46 GMT 1, I spoke to a few guys that were at the Ghetto and they relayed similar stories of seeing who looked to be 'locals' being turned away and told the prints are all gone, only to have them sold to people from the UK minutes later.

PoW Discriminating against locals??, by jam on Dec 8, 2007 7:40:24 GMT 1, On the other hand... if the locally based people are intending to buy the prints and sell them online.. then LET THEM. All that's going to do is put MORE money into the local community. I couldnt agree more ... why not let the locals flip them if they can afford it? Just more money going towards there community i would argue the the banksy art prints are extremely underpriced... there almost donating them to the locals... I think they they want people like you (from Las Vegas) to get off your arse and go and see the situation over there. I agree they want EVERYONE to see the situation over there... but its also 3x's futher away 16 hour flights multi stop flights for 3x's more money 2500 usd round trip... sorta difficult for us to just drop everything work/family/commitments and travel out there CBL... alot easier being in the UK imo...
+1 Foreman, as I agree with everything you said.
I am in the US, and I own a business so its impossible for me to get away at this time of the year. On top of that, its about 3k for me to go over and back in expense and I would much rather pay a local guy a grand or two to get me a print, knowing the money is going into that area to be spent than lining the pockets of some tout.
I think we all agree the point of the Ghetto in Bethlehem is to draw attention to the area and issues, and that is being done by the publicity the event has stirred in the media, by the numerous forum threads that turn to debate and information gathering, and by the relatively few people that actually travel over to see it in person. But the notion we need to focus on the viewing it for ourselves first hand and therefore putting restrictions on local buyers in attempt to force people to see it in that one dimensional way is selling the bigger picture of the cause short. This isn't the 1950's where the only way you knew about a region is to visit it or be one of the semi-concerned people who's views could be tainted by the one or two news providers they had access to. With global media and the various sources of information available VIA the internet, we don't need to see the situation first hand to understand the scope of issues surrounding that area. All we need to do is have the open debates this has stirred and research it on our own to come to the realization there are issues that need to be addressed, and I think POW could have accomplished that without the qualification demands. Doing some light checking on your knowledge of Banksy and POW/Laz is fair enough, but flat out turning people down because they didn't travel from another country isn't right.

NEXT BANKSY RELEASE VIA EBAY..., by jam on Dec 4, 2007 22:28:49 GMT 1, I like the idea of a full ebay release. As an evolution of the concept, they could put all the prints on at their normal POW selling prices, then run all the sales no reserve. All the money they get over what they want could be donated to a different charity for each release. I wouldn't mind paying over odds for some prints knowing the extra was going to a charity and not to line some touts pocket... honestly I would be inclined to bid higher!

I mentioned that in another thread and he must be on here cause someone hit me with a - when I pointed out the tout. Pisses me off that they lurk around this forum getting info to leach off of fans.

Oh D*face..., by jam on Nov 30, 2007 13:02:28 GMT 1, Just because it's a trademark doesn't mean it has to be continually utilised. Don't get me wrong, I love D*Face, but it's just about time the guy did something a bit different. After all the bigging up, I was expecting something innovative and exciting, not just more of the same old same old. Comparison with Dolk doesn't really hold water, just cause one person is stale and a bit dull doesn't justify another person being stale and a bit dull as well...
I like some Dface stuff, but the wings are getting old IMO. The comparison with Dolk was a commentary on his habit of slapping a big ugly tag front and center of his images just like Dface slaps wings on all of his images.
