RCA Secret - Anyone get what they wanted?, by jam on Nov 25, 2007 8:27:28 GMT 1, Hello all. Absolutely knackered having slept about an hour and a half last night and then having to go off to a family thang almost straight after RCA secret. My best year yet. Got two Damien Hirsts... The buzz at getting the hirsts was f**king awesome though...
Genuinely thrilled for you Pez... slightly jealous, but happy for your good fortune none the less. I remember seeing an interview with Hirst where he talked about how much he wished he could do 2D work and what a challenge it was for him as a medium. You have a couple rare treasures now, hang onto them forever!

If Amanda Donovan is so shit, by jam on Nov 22, 2007 18:28:10 GMT 1, I would expect they were probably shown to be sold to create the idea they are in demand so more people will want them. This concept is certainly not out of the realm with Laz, and if he has a hand in effecting auction prices it wouldn't be a stretch to think he alters prices and sold markers around on his site! In this case, manipulated perception becomes reality.

Another Invader gone for good, by jam on Nov 21, 2007 9:41:34 GMT 1, Mmmmm here's reply I got to my provenance question! ...It is not owned by the public and I doubt Space Invader wants it back so its mine. ...Yes its kosher just at bit unethical. If there is anything else I can help you with dont hesitate to drop me an email? Regards Jay .' So, all is well, he's doing us a favour removing this 'damage' from the streets and anyway Invader wouldn't want it back!
Jay... if you happen to be on this forum, you are a giant asshole. Its not owned by the public and Invader may not want it back, so its yours? Are you kidding? Sounds like you live your live 'kosher just at bit unethical'... hope things come back around for you sooner than later.

Tip of the iceberg..., by jam on Nov 21, 2007 8:52:42 GMT 1, A signed TM for 3k is still nearly twice what it was in Feb/March, so its certainly not as 'affordable' as they once were. As backpackpunk also pointed out, this image was a slow mover at POW and not many rate it very high on their wish list... I don't see it as too great a bargain to pass up.

Micallef Show = straw that broke the camel's back?, by jam on Nov 26, 2007 19:15:33 GMT 1, From what I was told, Anthony Kiedis was the one who bought the Improvised Minotaur and Uzi Lovers, but Flea was there as well so who knows for sure. The positive thing, is the house that burned wasn't one he lived in... he bought the other house awhile back and thats his primary home now so if he did buy the Micallefs or had them at his place, it likely wouldn't have been the one that burned.

Micallef Show = straw that broke the camel's back?, by jam on Nov 15, 2007 21:42:38 GMT 1, The show did not sell out either, there were a handful of small canvases down stairs that didn't go... one of which is being sold by Laz at Sothebys next month. 'Contrived' is/was a good description, the show was clearly geared toward celebrity buyers in Hollywood and I didn't feel it had more than a few standout pieces and nothing that was groundbreaking for AM aside from the sculpture work.

Bloomsbury Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by jam on Nov 29, 2007 3:07:20 GMT 1, Is anyone on the board close to someone at the Bloomsbury auction house? I would like to know actual percentages of sold prints VS reserve not met. I bid on a few prints that were 'cheap' and didn't end up getting them as the reserve wasn't met, and I know of a few people that had things listed in the sale that failed to meet reserve... I am betting there were many prints that didn't change hands. It would be nice to clear the actual sales percentage up seeing so many are referencing the prices from the auction to site a downturn in the market or that they are reflective of actual values.

Bloomsbury Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by jam on Nov 28, 2007 18:16:27 GMT 1, Your absolutely on the nail Jam. A lot of these won't be selling, so therefore are not necessarily an accurate reflection of value. Sorry Stuey, kind of disagree with you here, the value is only what the buyer is willing to currently pay! Prices are slightly down at the moment so if they do not hit reserve accross the board then the reserves have been set too high! The reserve is the price that the seller thinks they are worth, not what the current market value dictates!!?
'Value is only what the buyer is willing to currently pay' is only half the transaction though. I have original pieces that I would not sell for anywhere near what I would be offered on any given day does that mean they aren't worth that price to the buyer, perhaps, but as the seller, they are worth it to me. If I choose to place a floor on what I would accept for a piece at auction, and the potential buyer does not want to pay that price... he doesn't get the work. There is a disparity between what someone may be willing to pay and what the market will actually bear... somewhere in that gap is the actual fair market value. That number would lean more toward the sellers number more often than not, unless there is an anomaly in the market such as the seller needing to offload something, or other factors such as time of the year related to holiday or taxes. I watched the prices, and I would only have bid if it was a steal... just out for a bit of bargain hunting and hoping someone would dump something cheap before the holiday, that is certainly not a reflection of fair market value.

Bloomsbury Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by jam on Nov 28, 2007 17:56:43 GMT 1, Neither of the Morons sold... reserve not met. I wonder how many are actually selling. I also worry that people are going to take these prices as the actual value, as many seem to put too much weight into what things sell for on ebay.

Bloomsbury Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by jam on Nov 28, 2007 17:51:31 GMT 1, I completely disagree. These prices just reflect the lack of confidence from buyers and a lack of money from genuine fans of this genre of art. Look at Neates price for 2am Blog, it's exactly the same story, and I don't believe its all over for Neate. Completely agree!!
As do I... I would doubt many of the Micallefs met reserve, and everyone is looking for cheap deals because they are low on cash and holiday is fast approaching. Now is the time to buy!

Banksy - "Grin Reaper" Scrutton Street, Shoreditch, by jam on Nov 8, 2007 6:22:21 GMT 1, thats the crime right there...i hate how these toys write their names everywhere...adding nothing at all to the street art scene
Not only does it add nothing, it brings a bad view to the street art scene. People see this crap and begin to blend street art with plain old vandalism or gang related rubbish... then we loose it all much quicker.

Bad Man, by jam on Nov 5, 2007 1:36:34 GMT 1, i felt pissed off the day of the release after wasting months checking the site, but i couldn't care less about what people i don't know do with their print. they're not ripping me off or POW. they are selling the print to someone who can afford to buy it at market price.
But flippers are ripping you off... they are taking the chance for you to own a print at a price the artist and POW find reasonable away so they can make a fast buck. What about the time you mentioned following the site... they effectively stole that time from you as well, because chances are without their demand on the market you would have more likely wound up with a print for your time to keep up on the release.

Bad Man, by jam on Nov 5, 2007 1:10:11 GMT 1, Threating messages, really?! It isn't a witch hunt, and its not about snitching. There are loads of people on the forum who want prints to hang and they should have the right to purchase them at original cost over some asshole that is out to make a profit. We are infested with flippers so take advantage of the information on this forum and they should be brought to light. POW have said openly that while the selling of prints after purchase isn't something that they are overly concerned about if it happens down the line... that the selling of prints BEFORE you even have them pisses them off.

Bad Man, by jam on Nov 4, 2007 23:31:44 GMT 1, Screw this guy. Has anyone send an email to POW informing them? I want to so badly. I would say the more people doing so the better James, if you see what I'm saying. It'll put pressure on POW to act, even if they're not keen to in the first place.
Good point SMS... everyone should be speaking up to POW about these incidents.

I'm pissed., by jam on Nov 2, 2007 0:30:55 GMT 1, I think its more likely they have an office job with a load of mates infront of a computer. they missed the first release, which alerted them to the coloured release in which they grabbed all their mates in the office to refresh like mad until they were for sale - 3 in the office got them and he gave them a few hundred quid cash for doing f**k all - they could have been the boss and just told their staff to have a few hours off and get me a banksy!! who knows - easily done if your in a position where you know for a fact there will be a banksy within the day, which we did after the first release, and you have a few mate or employees with computers! thats my take anyways!!
This is really the most plausible answer... spot on Dave. You must remember, POW said it was going to release them in October... and since it hadn't been the entire month up to the 28th, it kinda narrowed it down so its likely people were lining up friends to keep an eye for the prints. When POW sent the email, the bun fight started, and staggering the prints out as B&W signed first, color second, and unsigned last, gave everyone and their brother time to have people order prints on their behalf. Mystic programmers and the like just isn't out there in the way people think it is and would like to blame it on, there were 100k people fighting over 1300 prints and it came down to luck of the draw and the edge of having the release drawn out and in the very end of the release time frame.
