Art Car Boot Fair, by damo on Jun 9, 2016 21:11:28 GMT 1, Joking apart but how silly are the queues for this usually? Its first chance I've ever had to get down there but realistically I can't be in line till 10.30 ish. Is it even worth it by that point, in terms of picking anything up? I'm pretty keen on a Emin poster and would like to see a few bits but not so bothered about a mass scramble. I was going to bring the kids down (theyre quite young) with us but is that not a smart move for the opening hour or so?

Stik... On a Budget, by damo on Jun 4, 2016 11:12:41 GMT 1, Does anyone happen to know the Ikea range of frames these were? I've a single (book) poster that i now want to frame up, and will then re-glass, but from what i can see online ikea don't have the frame in stock any longer. I am sure i'll be able to get the frame online but the actual range/size would be really helpful in a search for that, if anyone happens to know what it is. Ta.

Want to buy: Tracey Emin - I Promise To Love You, by damo on Jun 3, 2016 19:57:00 GMT 1, As a relative newcomer I find the pricing of these posters fascinating, they are in essence just posters so the premium is for an autograph, which is actually fair enough. In Feb they were widely available at ยฃ150/200 but a single Paddle8 auction in March saw one go for a really high price (I think it was near ยฃ1k or something equally insane) so the price, on all others, was accordingly adjusted.
Im not buying a conspiracy theory on the auction but it goes to show how much a single (high profile) sale can impact (and I deliberately use that word over 'manipulate') the price for the whole market. Now in the recent sales listed here the seller has taken a fair amount of stick from people who are understandably questioning the value of 'a poster', but in fairness he surely has the right to request any price the market is willing to entertain. If they don't entertain it, he doesnt sell, if they do then the overall market price increases.
Ive seen similar discussion on here (Stik, etc) but I don't think I've seen a scenario where the cycle has been so... well ... obvious. Basically I could buy a dozen Emin posters at the car boot. Wait for the sold out signs and then just go to an auction and bid the shit out of one to set a new market high. I know this is how the market has always been but it's really interesting as an outsider seeing it for the first time. I'm not making any judgement on it, or the seller on this occasion, but I've just found it really interesting this year.
Disclosure: I only know the Feb prices because I was going to buy it for the wife for Valentines, and baulked at ยฃ175+. To me that still feels like a fair, and reasonable, price but each to their own.

Just gave this to my lad after last night and telling Stik re his early efforts at painting. Not sure who was most excited about it, he or I, close call tbh!

NEW STREET ART BOOK LAUNCH BY CLAUDE CROMELIN, by damo on Jun 1, 2016 20:08:49 GMT 1, My Fellow VNA contributor Claude Crommelin is re-issuing his Street Art book and launching it in Brick Lane tomorrow. I believe Stik and a number of artists will be present to sign the book. Claude has been taking street photos for some years now and one of the main documenters of London Street art. ย ย ย
Popped along tonight and dead pleased I did. Claude and Doctor Cream signed a great book, and Stik was very generous with his time, dedicated a copy of his book to my son who, at 12, loves his work (in fact has really got into art and painting as a result of that book) Signed a book poster for me also. Absolute gents one and all.

Visit DUBAI ๐ฆ๐ช Street Art, Galleries, Events, by damo on May 29, 2016 15:33:04 GMT 1, Really good article on this in the ST Magazine today from Waldermar Januszczak, worth checking out.
I won't post a link as it'll be behind a pay wall but he addresses a concern i had with the whole project (although for me it's an issue with Dubai as a whole tbh). His conclusion, summarised in his closing; 'I came to Dubai fearing that street art would lose its soul by coming here. I left Dubai 100% certain that it had not'.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by damo on May 24, 2016 10:46:03 GMT 1, Bought this for the wife, for our 'grown up' (and grey) room. I finally picked it up today. I am really taken with it in the flesh, I don't think they've shifted many of his last run at all which suggests the price was a little toppy (to say the least) but I love it and i am pretty sure she will. Add to my collection of art that I love but no one else seems to. Always enjoyed being a little contrarian (and am not too good with the F5'ng anyway!)

Your latest Art Purchase?, by damo on May 20, 2016 20:42:02 GMT 1, [img src="http://i.imgur.com/kyH3S4r.jpg" src="" alt=" "]Got this back today (by Gary Stranger), really chuffed with it tbh. Lived here (London) most of my life, its a nice bit of typography and yesterday was my late fathers anniversary, his name was Don (which pops out of this print to my eyes). So it felt a timely arrival and works for me in a few ways. Needs a better spot (and better lighting) than its getting here, but i always want things straight up on the wall!

Not particularly challenging but fun and well executed, and the beer is decent. Worth a visit if in Shoreditch area. Will post some pics later.

Pejac โข Wound Print, by damo on May 12, 2016 17:13:45 GMT 1, Same. Tried using card instead of Paypal and it refused, then too late for PayPal account. All gone within two minutes from what I could see. Gutted really, but hey ho, good to see it in such demand (I had wall space especially for it and everything - get the violins out....)

Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by damo on Apr 8, 2016 21:40:33 GMT 1, Apologies as i don't know how to post pics on here, and I'd probably flood the board with too many anyway, but my pics from tonight are on this link. 2nd pic is the prints (i believe) and 9th/10th a close up/wide shot of the eye for whoever was asking earlier re whether the detail was screen printed or not (they aren't)....

Enjoy, i certainly did this evening.

Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by damo on Apr 8, 2016 19:24:54 GMT 1, Prints for sale yet ? Can someone pleeeeease pick one up for me
Chill... Prints aren't out (I think I worried a few people by happening to have a tube with me) tonight. Interestingly there looks like there may be two available tomorrow though. No one said that just noticed there were two prints framed up. If I could I'd sell everything I owned for a couple of the huge originals. Will post a few pics later, really impressed me tbh.

Eine "Celebrate" Print - Jealous - Big Issue , by damo on Apr 8, 2016 16:37:01 GMT 1, Or you can get them on ebay for only ยฃ999. Signed "Big Issue" copies also available. Since when has Ben Eine been flip worthy ? Every release seems to sell for cost or less. I would imagine these settling right around cost over the next couple months. Whether he is flip worthy or not, isn't the point. It's just really poor form to be flipping a print ... that is still readily available from A CHARITY. It would be bad form to do it even at cost but for people to be doing it (on here) at 4x cost is a bit of a p&ยฃ@ take in my view.

Any not sold today/tonight will go online via Jealous Gallery at 11am tomorrow I believe. I would image there will still be some available, not necessarily all three fonts though.

Which is pretty cool... unless like me you are stuck in the background of the shoot and are actually supposed to be in your office working! This better only make local news!

Eine "Celebrate" Print - Jealous - Big Issue , by damo on Apr 8, 2016 10:29:18 GMT 1, Am on my way, how many people are in the queue? Am after a Vandal You should be fine. About 20 left in the queue, most people buying Vandal or Circus fonts from what I can see (or all three). I'd say there should still be at least 50 of the first hundred Vandals left. Won't sell out this morning but they might not get past lunch (and I think they're holding 50 of each back for tonight).

WCP The West Country Prince, by damo on Apr 6, 2016 16:07:32 GMT 1, I bought a WCP copy of GWB after I sold my original last year. I did it as a bit of a joke to be honest as the old frame was empty post sale. It's on my kids wall and is a talking point but nothing more. The absence of the POW stamp is the clear difference but I have to say it's very close to the original. I've taken pictures of them both close up and covered the corner and my wife couldn't tell the diff, and the original was on our bedroom wall for 10 years. It's less re the match of the print, I'm guessing that's easy, it's the paper match that elevates it above just being a poster. Does it have any investment or artistic value, no, not at all, but if it's the image you like it's a considerable step up from buying a poster I assure you. I am not sure they should be promoted on here but I actually think ยฃ50 is perfectly reasonable for what it is. More than that and theyd be taking advantage, but you'd have to pretty naive (ie buy it framed and not check) to miss the back where it's fairly evident it's a copy and not an original. I don't see any harm in that. I suspect he/they would be me more reactive if the quality was really poor.
