Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by damo on Mar 31, 2016 18:04:07 GMT 1, lol, 2nd class flippers re-selling postcards after missing out on the print. Ha, I think they only sold around 150 online, with no edition numbers (that I saw) so I suspect they kept plenty back for tonight. Will then probably put the rest online at some future point, especially now they can see there is a market for them even at £20 a pop (albeit for 2).

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by damo on Mar 25, 2016 0:13:24 GMT 1, What a fascinating spread of views and opinions. I've withheld my views on this to date beyond close friends and family because A) not sure if anyone should care what I think on the subject, B) there are smart and intelligent people I respect (and who's opinions on economics and security I should give full consideration for) on both sides of the debate, and, C) there are many I don't respect who I seem to agree with on this particular issue. So in summary I'm still quite confused and whilst natural inclination is to stay, I may change....
One thing I don't see discussed very often though is the wider consequence for everyone else. I spend a lot of time in Scotland and was there for the referendum. At the time I believed in the 'better together' argument. I genuinely did, I genuinely do. Is it perfect? No. But when has division ever been a better alternative? If I bought into those theories then, I have to surely apply them to this question. I like communities and I like to participate in large and active ones, why would I want to vote for a smaller one?
The relevance to me is all this focus on the UK out of the EU, but surely that also risks the Union itself (Scotland in particular). And what happens to the EU with us gone? Will others vote to leave. Does Spain finally split. I just see change for the sake of change, and I get that not everyone is happy with their lot, but turn on the news and look at the very real challenges that so many others are facing day in day out. For what it's worth I think we've had a pretty good 50 years.
I don't want to have every country to have to renegotiate on their own terms, have you seen how good we are at that game. Honestly look at the carve up in the Eurovision Contest, we'd be just trading with Ireland ;-)
Anyway that's my ten pence worth, this is probably not the place for it but just nice to see it being discussed somewhere without all the historonics. As I say I may still be convinced otherwise but for me it's a 'better the devil you know', and living in London I feel as much common ground with someone from Paris, Rome, Brussels, Madrid or Berlin as I do with someone from Sunderland or Swindon. That's not a bad thing surely.

Miss Bugs Once We Dreamt Print, by damo on Mar 1, 2016 20:17:44 GMT 1, I really like this print but i have come to the conclusion (having seen some brilliant framing examples on here) that it looks best in a black frame, and the space i have for it just doesn't lend itself to that. I only buy to frame and hang, and if i am not going to do that then i should really let it go. I don't 'need' sell it particularly at the moment so thought a trade might be more interesting. Appreciate that would work better with some sort of guidance as to what i like, but I am hoping the print itself is guidance enough (and any Pop Art style/colourful pieces usually work for me), basically i'll consider anything (medium, age, etc) in any style that feels like a fair trade for both parties.
(Its still rolled in tube and has only been out twice, once for inspection and once to consider framing options).
Hope this is okay re the rules. DM if interested.

Tracey Emin Giveaway, by damo on Mar 1, 2016 12:58:57 GMT 1, I would have given it to the wife ... in lieu of the poster that I had intended to buy her for Valentines Day. My diary, and my general incompetence, managed to mess that purchase up when i could have had it for £175 on here in early Feb. Prices suddenly seem to have gone beyond (what i consider to be) reasonable. Hoping it gets back in to my price range by this time next year, but this very generous giveaway would have at least bought me some time ;-) Plus i always love enamel pin badges, quite a nostalgic feel to them for me.

Sweet Toof, by damo on Feb 10, 2016 14:02:30 GMT 1, I have tried to reach to paypal explaining i have received all my purchases but feeling uncomfortable owning art work from an artist that has not been paid for, despite my money being taken by paypal! Only got an automated reply that does not discuss the problem! If anybody knows of an email address that would be read by human, please post it here! I feel the same. Is there nothing more we can do as a collective that would help resolve the issue for him?

New Pose Print "Drown" (2016)..., by damo on Feb 9, 2016 0:28:17 GMT 1, I picked up Dude so I guess that's how they are running the mailing list.
I do like it, but not sure how it would hang next to Dude (which has already been banned from the lounge, due to wife's insistence it looks like Donald Trump!)

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by damo on Feb 7, 2016 11:24:04 GMT 1, Are we stooping down to the 'I could have done that' argument? On that same basis I could have painted a few soup cans, or knocked up a dove with more substance than Picasso.
The originality of a piece, and its subsequent impact on an overall art form, are surely more important than the complexity of the art itself. It's not a political piece but it was done over ten years ago and is instantly recognisable as a Banksy work, and that is by a global audience, not just readers of forums such as this. I'd put it up there with Warhols soup can, Picasso's dove, for anyone of a certain age.
As for the argument about the market stall? They sold originally for £60, that was their worth, then. If you buy it now however you aren't just paying for the paper, the idea and the print. You're surely paying the premium for the subsequent iconic impact of both that image, and that artist, over the least fifteen years. It's survived a decade, it's unlikely it/he will disappear now, and that also adds value/prestige/insurance.
Apologies for semi rant (it's just a personal view) but when people keep going on about other works he's done being technically better it winds me up. Reminds me of when people always used to harp on about Betamax technically besting VHS! As someone else has said, it's worth whatever a buyer will pay. Surely it's not really anyone else's concern as long as the OP isn't taking the mick, and by asking for an price it's achieved previously I can't see that he is?

EINE - Sunday Times Magazine, by damo on Feb 1, 2016 20:00:29 GMT 1, Here you go skitchy I'm not sure how to post an album so this may go wrong but I'm working off an iPhone and it its not giving the BBcode option. Hopefully you can see it via this though... linkthanks, nice to see a street artist in the sunday times... He wasn't the only one this week as it happens. In the Home section someone was showing off their new £1.25m (!) extension. Couldn't help but notice how they'd chosen to bring their walls to life....

Eine back in the UK, by damo on Jan 31, 2016 23:21:47 GMT 1, I know it's wrong thread for this so apologies (not sure where else to put it), but quite a big interview with Eine in the ST magazine today if anyone is interested? Nothing new and not sure why it was run today but it's a good overview, bit of history and big nod toward the Miami fair (also noticed a massive Stik on the wall of some multi million Hampstead pad featured in the Home section as well).

Sweet Toof, by damo on Jan 26, 2016 18:38:44 GMT 1, This is killing me. I don't even know why I am being drawn to this, when I first started seeing it it held little appeal, now though... I'm desperate. Is there a trick, a timing mechanism, a magic key... to getting one carted? I was refreshing just then and finally caught one 'live', must have had all but a 5 second gap between it (Fluro Drips) appearing and some other bugger having carted it before me? How? Whats the secret?
(Im actually waiting for something on paper - Slime time, Slime in the City, Toxic Slime, etc - over one of the ceramics if anyone has gone a bit mad and now needs to reduce their collection slightly?)

Lazarides : Group Show: A Decade of Lazarides., by damo on Jan 19, 2016 20:05:28 GMT 1, I can only really make the Thursday night due to my schedule and am dead keen to attend, does anyone have a contact I can use to at least attempt a blag at one of these special VIP invites to that night? I called up last week but they weren't open as clearly prepping the site for this event. The private view invites allow a guest so if you know anyone who got an invite they can put you on the list. I'm waiting in my plus one if I haven't heard from them I can put you on mine That's really kind and much appreciated. Let me know if your plus one doesn't get back to you.
I'll drop Laz a direct email as well and see if they'll let me in!

Lumiere London Light Festival, by damo on Jan 18, 2016 20:51:43 GMT 1, Kings Cross was a nightmare around 7pm. Very similar to leaving a stadium but with no police, or seemingly stewards, in sight. We found a kid in the crowd separated from his Mum and crying, he must have only been 11. Took us nearly ten minutes to find anyone with a walkie talkie to hand him to/help find his mam. Took the edge off and tbh the pieces were all a bit low key (at Kings X at any rate).
London has such an appetite for cultural events like these (Rememberance poppies at Tower Hill, Gormley on Southbank, etc) but this was worst organised I've ever been to, not sure whether if it was unexpected numbers (literally thousands) but it kinda killed it all round really.

New Pose Print "Dude", by damo on Jan 16, 2016 22:33:28 GMT 1, Mine is finally with Parcelforce who now want £76 for Vat and clearing fees?
Apologies for the newbie question but I am sure I saw something on here over Xmas where there was a view that this didn't apply if it was one off art (and a signed limited edition would qualify). Is that the case re VAT or was that specific to import Duty (which doesn't seem to have been applied)? If it is exempt of VAT how do you go about claiming it if Parcelforce have already paid it to HMRC?
I feel bad as I keep asking questions on here about dull things like auction payments, and now VAT rules, but I'm learning all the time and am hugely grateful for the info, both directly and via numerous wider debates/discussions/bun fights/disputes!
