Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by agu on May 21, 2016 20:33:20 GMT 1, There was a forum member looking for one of these in last year willing to pay ยฃ7k if i recall but cldnt find one. I know im a bit vague but if anyone is that interested they'll find the thread. If i recall correctly her search went on for a couple of weeks without success. I picked one up on ebay for ยฃ4.5k in October 2014 which i thought was a fair price for me and the seller, but within a few months they were going for closer to ยฃ6k. Last LN sold on auction ebay for ยฃ7300 and ยฃ7900 For a gallery to sale it at 8/9k still is a good price artรญculo262273084236 If it helps I was the ebay ยฃ7300 winner. I had to stalk it like a MF and was up against at least 1 other monkey hunter.
I took the trouble of inspecting the print before bidding so knew what I was buying. I also know the other bidder had not and so was buying "on word"
The piece was indeed "super extra strong minty" with COA.
I saw one go later at the dreweatts & bloomsbury auction for ยฃ5k but do not know the condition, I assume it had COA. I had enquired on the condition of another banksy in the same auction and it was 'far from mint" and had at best storage creases and other marks. So not sure if the price here is a good indicator.
peace and love

Share the STIK love!, by agu on May 21, 2016 20:18:59 GMT 1, Not trying to be funny but seeing the works on the streets, you can see how crude some of the images were at the start and how it progressed to the current style. Can't believe that can actually happen even with stick art. Thank you for sharing. Resurfacing this discussion, I was luck enough to meet STIK and he explained how he refined the eyes from round to oval to give him more to work with. The tilt of the oval eyes giving position to the head and having more axis to work with (at this stage repositions his head an eys in multiple ways). Quite frankly the man is a genius who stuck at something when everyone else said, "I can do that" he showed them he could do it better...GENIUS

I Fought The Law ยฃ3200 LN ยฃ5000 FC ยฃ4000 TM ยฃ3000
We don't like to talk about when prints we have don't make the price we like On the above prices I am definitely in the red of 2 prints.

Advice, by agu on May 15, 2016 15:53:56 GMT 1, Always happy to see the efforts of an artist. Please pass my congratulations on to your friend. The acceptance to PSA is really quite something. Great to see some one helping another person file their dreams, well done you. Respect.

During a party someone was tipping his chair back, which is poor manners at the best of times, but the B*** was resting his head on his head on my canvas! Hair gel and all.
Framing is the way to go. That or limit guests....

Martin Whatson Artwork, VALUATION, by agu on May 1, 2016 19:41:13 GMT 1, It's decorative. It's easy on the eye. It's safe. What more could one want? "To damn with faint Praise"
I blow hot and cold on whatson. I like his work with snik but increasingly find its snik I warm to.

The next big thing, by agu on Apr 29, 2016 23:20:10 GMT 1, Keen to buy into the "Next big thing". . Having missed out on the unsigned piece of paper I want to get in on the ground floor for the next wave. I am gullible, glib, overpaid and have little knowledge or appreciation of art, so topic and artistry are unimportant, just bragging rights and flip-ability. The phrase "Bigger than banksy" gets me every time, so hyperbole and rampant speculation are appreciated.
Especially interested in 3d/lenticular/lomo/holographic/milking versions of existing work. Would love any advice / pointers. Please post pics.... Unless you are selling: in which case: a first post, of a one line statement with the phrase "selling for a friend", with no pics, price or comment as to condition is de rigueur.

In your mind is Art & Politics connected?, by agu on Apr 29, 2016 22:54:45 GMT 1, Really loving this thread and some of the posts would have qualified for dissertation..IMHO.
Resurfacing the original question. I would love to hear from people who's political leanings influence the art they buy? A really mild example. I bought a mau mau piece, "Get rich or try sharing" because I loved the message. But over time I have come to think it is a really average piece of art. In fact if you want it....
Point being that in this case the message was bigger than the art.
Any other examples out there?

Share the STIK love!, by agu on Apr 29, 2016 22:17:41 GMT 1, 2011 was an important year for Stik, with four solo shows and more and more people interested in his work. Prices remained low for some time, Single mum original was at ยฃ900 when the print was released in march 2011, the print itself was at ยฃ75, mini-canvas were at ยฃ35, etc... Things started to change with his show at Imitate Modern in April 2012, when Walk was released and prices started to increase. Good old days were gone I agree with you that it would be nice if we all could get STIK for a few quid. But let's consider the positives. Someone who was once homeless and penniless is making a good living...while making the world brighter and more interesting for all of us... while raising money for charities ... while giving artistic voice to subjects that are oft neglected.
If only all days were this good.

In your mind is Art & Politics connected?, by agu on Apr 21, 2016 18:03:18 GMT 1, If an artist was a Neo Nazi, could you like the art? That's an extreme example, but the personality and general beliefs of the artist can certainly change my view of them and their art. For me art isn't just about a surface level, pretty picture. I have to have a good feeling about "where it's coming from". If that makes sense? This is a good point, and I agree entirely. I have to buy art for from people who are enjoyable to deal with. If the seller was a bit of a tw*t I would not enjoy the art to the extent that I would sell it or not buy it in the first place.
That said for me it is not the politics but the distasteful association. In the case of Neo-Nazi's: racism and violence that makes you like the art less. In the same way that the value of Rolf Harris' work collapsed after he was convicted of sexual abuse of a child.
What I am getting at (rather poorly) is that the emotional associations rather than the specific politics that create the view. Hence you can have an interest in propaganda art or even the symbolic value of the Nazi uniform from an artistic perspective as long as you do not experience the emotional reaction associated with the horrors caused by the producers and wears.
...or something like that

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by agu on Apr 20, 2016 22:22:10 GMT 1, Silky, please don't take this the wrong way, it's a genuine question. I've often wondered what right leaning/Conservative people can possibly take from the majority of street art, especially the work of Banksy. After all, much of it is a direct attack/criticism of right wing policies or ideals. I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on the matter, and apologies if I've made the wrong presumption about your political allegiance. I guess you have to consider that you get 1 vote every 4/5 years to cover many thousands of issues. Much of the street art scene is about human conscience and ethics. We all agree that poverty, racism, lack of social mobility/ educational opportunities/ recourse to law, heavy handed state control and surveillance etc. are wrong, hence much of the art makes sense. The question "how you deal with them?" determines you political colour. I would point out that the "wrong war" which inspired so many into action was indeed commenced under the watch of a labour leader. Quite frankly Tony Blair created enough stimulus to keep everyone going well into the next millennium.

Art Print Storage in Plan Chests, by agu on Apr 18, 2016 10:08:48 GMT 1, This is a fascinating thread. In all honesty I have only ever bought art to hang on walls, which puts some kind of brake on my buying behaviour. So some questions to the owners of these beautiful chests.
1) How many prints/pieces do you own? 2) How do you "enjoy" the art. Is knowing you own it enough or do you take them out to admire them from time to time.

Art Print Storage in Plan Chests, by agu on Apr 18, 2016 8:37:56 GMT 1, Interesting thread. Also looking for an old leather chair for reading @coach Would love a plans chest but not enough room to keep one. Has anyone used a low (3 or 4 drawer) one as a coffee table? Or risky the kids spill something and it drips down / in the drawers? The only space I have for one is as a coffee table. I'll get round to getting one at some point I would not sleep at night...

Art Print Storage in Plan Chests, by agu on Apr 18, 2016 8:36:42 GMT 1, I modified an old desk to include a flat-file drawer, with a decorative piece on the top with glow-in-the-dark resin. Before: After: Art drawer: Desktop: Desktop glow: Uber impressed. This is "da bomb". Love the 2 tone surface and the glow in the dark is a nice touch. Storing art in side a piece of art. Gotta love it.

Share the STIK love!, by agu on Apr 13, 2016 17:03:50 GMT 1, we can start now again to discuss "is STIK the new Banksy" ?? in before 'i can draw that' comments. Funny how we all failed to discuss the underwhelming performance of Banksy in the Derwetts auction. Laugh Now US went for only ยฃ5k...I and others have recently paid north of ยฃ7k for one, so ...
