Martha Cooper ๐บ๐ธ Subway Art Book โข New York Graffiti , by disappointed on Jun 21, 2020 20:56:05 GMT 1, As part of one of my occasional clear outs I have been through a portfolio and have the following to go if anyone is interested. All quoted prices are exclusive of postage:
Trains & Generations box of postcards featuring several generations of renowned graffiti documenters/photographers - Martha Cooper, Alex Fakso, and Smart B. The wooden box is laser cut and signed in marker on the reverse by all three contributor. From the edition of 40 and published by Under Dogs. Includes roll of 35mm film, COA and twelve postcards (four by each of he photographers). Nice piece of historical ephemera. ยฃ150. SOLD
Aiko, B'wick Bunny.
Mixed media comprising stencilled spray paint, (very likely) coffee, etc, on 42.5cms x 28cms unstretched canvas from a varied edition of 8, dated 2007. Vintage Aiko and very heavily textured, and is impressive look in person. From not too long after she split with Faile and certainly still reflective of the imagery she contributed to that early collective. Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse:
Offers on this, not because I am looking for a shady, anonymous bidding war but because I have o idea of it's value. Maybe nowhere near as much as it should be given her place at the beginning of the 2000's NYC scene so don't be shy.
Seen, couple of untitled small marker pen pieces on paper, each 21cms x 15cms. With COA from Seen studios, also signed by the man himself:
Again, no clue as to value so offers please. Happy to sell either as a pair or individually. Top seen SOLD
Early Cyclops/Lucas Price character on found poster, spray paint and (I think) ink/marker/something like that. IIRC, this is from when he used to sell pieces via ebay in the very early days. It's on a ~57cms x 38cms vintage looking poster that has fold marks, tears, and blue tack from well before he used it as a surface so is very much in found/'artists' condition. Unsigned but still pretty cool so ยฃ150? SOLD
Hopefully that is all clear enough but do DM me for any additional info/photos/etc. Please bear with me though as I do not check in here every day so reply may not be immediate..

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Dec 31, 2018 2:59:57 GMT 1, We recently bought this our first original (hopefully) 3D rather than limited edition print. Itโs signed on the back but no official documents. We love it with our without provenance but no clue on insurance value, any guidance appreciated. If you are seeking assurance as to authenticity then I have a 3D piece from the same period and that signature on the back looks legitimate. As does everything about it.
Additionally, this looks to be framed in the same style as mine (acquired direct from Lazarides), even down to the window on the reverse. There should (I think) be a sticker from the framer although I'd need to look at mine to confirm. I think mine came with a letter of authenticity signed by Laz too but I'd not sweat on it being missing.
As someone else inferred, just insure it for the amount you paid for it as that would seem to be a reasonable estimate of current market value. IIRC they were around ยฃ1500, maybe a bit less, from source about ten years ago.

New Banksy in Taibach, Port Talbot., by disappointed on Dec 19, 2018 14:34:47 GMT 1, Port Talbot stinks like off eggs, but looks great at night! Inspiration for Blade Runner apparently....also birthplace to some of the best acting talent from the UK Not quite.
The former ICI steel works on Teeside, where Ridley Scott grew up, were his inspiration for Blade Runner..

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by disappointed on Nov 28, 2018 2:46:52 GMT 1, You could say that about any art. What if someone threw paint on the Mona Lisa would they just leave it that way. Early works by Banksy are becoming very rare and to be honest i would hate to see this one disappear. Too many have been ripped off walls or destroyed No, but you could say that about art painted on a surface that the artist fully expects to have painted over, as this was. So, yeah, it had already disappeared.
Of course early street works are rare, they exist in a space/environment that is transitory and has a finite lifespan but, when they were painted, the artist knew that and accepted it. If you want to see work by banksy on a more long term basis then he makes a ton of work designed specifically for display indoors.
Likening the loss of this work to throwing paint on the Mona Lisa is ridiculous and irrelevant.

Banksy being restored in Scotland, by disappointed on Nov 27, 2018 19:14:37 GMT 1, Is this restoration as bad, and pointless, as it looks? It appears that they are projecting the original work onto the wall with a view to, I assume, painting over the projection. Which would be less a restoration and much more a copy. The projection is there for viewers to see the big picture. They are in fact removing the paint to reveal the original. Aah, right.
Although I would imagine the projection is as much to let the restorers know where the original art is as much as show the public?
For me, this sort of thing is a little pointless - what's gone is best left gone, especially when it's not really one of banksy's finest assemblage of images. They might be better just leaving the image projected on to the walls rather than waste the time, effort, and money painstakingly peeling paint off the mural.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Nov 26, 2018 2:25:17 GMT 1, Picked up this piece from READ, an old school graffiti artist out of New Orleans. Reader, and his many pseudonyms, is one of the absolute best although, given how progressive he is, I'd probably not describe him as old school. Either way, this is the best thing I've seen on here in a very long time. Is this cloth, or metal, stretched over the wood?
I've a few pieces by him but he's one of those few guys that I always feel I want more, and could never have enough, work by.
His recent mockery of Eine's apparent appropriation of his work was pretty funny.

Invader Rubik Space book (signed), by disappointed on Nov 24, 2018 16:09:24 GMT 1, I've posted this in the Art Value thread too but as it's a book...
Whilst sorting out a bookshelf the other week I found an Invader book I had forgotten all about. Since then, a few eagle eyed forum members have expressed interest in possibly buying it but I have no clue as to even a ballpark figure.
The book is his third, Rubik Space: A Picture Book, and was bought by myself from the spaceshop (I have email confirmation) after the book was released at his LA show back in 2006(?). The pictures aren't that clear but there is slight yellowing to the tape that wraps the covers on front and back and more serious yellowing and fading on the spine. The front and back have never been exposed to light so that's just natural fading of the tape, but the spine has sat in light since purchase.
It's very boldly signed, from the edition of fifty, and came with a few stickers already stuck to the pages.
Any value estimates would be appreciated as I can't find any record of a signed, or even unsigned, copy selling in recent years.

First Great Western collaborative print - edition of 40, by disappointed on Nov 24, 2018 15:13:45 GMT 1, Yeah, it's a very nice snapshot of the scene back then.
I won my copy in a Let Them Hang competition at the time of release, or thereabouts, so it's the original colour-way, un-numbered, but is signed by all (including Walker).

New BANKSY stall, by disappointed on Nov 6, 2018 13:03:49 GMT 1, I was going to visit tomorrow to have a look at the wall and chat with the folk on the stall but if it's descended into a free for all for free tat then I'll probably not bother.
Maybe if I leave it till late afternoon it could be calmer?

Borf ๐บ๐ธ Washington DC Graffiti โข Rothko โข John Tsombikos, by disappointed on Nov 6, 2018 0:41:42 GMT 1, Great, great piece by one of the most real of talents.
That said, he really shouldn't have gotten so in with Laz as they totally burned him out. I saw a few pics of where he was heading artistically a few years back and it was some great work but, seemingly, not something he wanted to go public with.
Best of luck with the sale.

Slight Dent in Canvas. Repairable?, by disappointed on Sept 3, 2018 11:11:05 GMT 1, Am I correct in thinking that this is a slight crease to the canvas on the back of the stretcher?
It's not even worth worrying about but, yeah, could very easily be fixed by a restorer. I've removed dents on the face of canvasses with the application of a small amount of water to the reverse and it's worked every time so, for a professional, this would appear to be a very straightforward job.

Jose Parla watercolour FS, by disappointed on Jul 19, 2018 19:57:43 GMT 1, I have for sale a beautiful 75cms x 55cms Jose Parla mixed media, but predominantly watercolour, work on paper from Elms Lesters, dated 2007. Framed to the usual Elms high standard..
It's a proper, weighty, piece of work, being a tribute to a master Kurdish Taสฟlฤซq calligrapher gunned down in Baghdad in 2007, The colours reflect the nature of the tribute being that of the desert sand and stormy sky, with the text drawn out in petrol hued black all spattered with red.
I will provide images to any serious parties. Please, no time wasters...

Wanted: Invader Alias , Rubic , Mosaic or Original, by disappointed on Jul 19, 2018 16:54:27 GMT 1, I would not touch anything from an Auction house selling street works as it demonstrates a serious lack of credibility and, also, seems rather disrespectful to an artist that has actively disowned removed pieces. Those buying them are either desperate, delusional, or genuinely idiotic.
Especially sad to see one of the old Manchester pieces being offered as some of the spots they used to be are still quite clear if you know where to look..

Eelus โข Shat-at Print & Canvas, by disappointed on Jun 27, 2018 20:13:26 GMT 1, If you want a more recent price reference, I sold one a few months ago for some way below ยฃ1000... Thanks for letting me know, looks like Iโll be keeping it. mose, above, is quite right in his praise for this piece though.
It is a classic image from the early days of the UK 'urban' art scene, before all the chancers and hangers on ran said scene into the ground with their increasingly tired, reductive, and dull imagery. Eelus himself has certainly become far less interesting thanks to that appallingly twee, rainbow rain nonsense that he was churning out a few years ago. Sadly, this scene is always chasing the next best thing rather than the foundations so classic images such as this may not always get the love they deserve..
BTW, mine was a khaki green but I think your pink looks more striking so ยฃ1000 might not be too far off the mark.

New Banksy in Paris???, by disappointed on Jun 26, 2018 19:58:05 GMT 1, It could explain this really great stencil ! Similar as these ones ... ( Hull ? i still did not understood the context )! I don't know if anyone responded to your question about the Hull piece as I stopped reading this thread as reading some of the more bizarre speculations was too tiring.
Anyway, 'Draw The Raised Bridge' is just a reworking of the phrase/term 'Raise The Draw Bridge'. In this case the kid is playing at/imitating raising the bridge by drawing on it (it's painted on the road surface of a non-operational, vertical, drawbridge). I'm sure we can read a little deeper and maybe suggest that it is some commentary on how many nations are closing their borders/shutting their doors/and raising their metaphorical draw bridges as we slip into nationalism, insularity, and paranoia. Or maybe he just likes a cheap pun?

Sad news story just popped up..., by disappointed on Jun 19, 2018 18:55:53 GMT 1, Harry ( Lover) is the son of my closest friend, I have known him since birth, he was a great kid. When much younger he would be particularly interested in the Basquiat & Haring work in our home, we discussed Banksy & Pure Evil ( as he had visited the PE gallery). To say his parents are devastated is an understatement, I will ,when the time is appropriate, show Harryโs parents your kind words of support. Thank you . Paul
So sorry for the loss to all those left behind. To lose three kids in one night is absolutely horrific and I can't imagine the grief..
On the bright side it's always great to hear of kids being inspired into creativity and action by those that went before so thanks for bringing humanity to their passing. He, and his mates, will be remembered..
