Are the light bulbs silver on their lower half in order to act as up lighters?

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Jul 22, 2016 10:04:21 GMT 1, Mixed media (graphite/charcoal (I think), acrylic) on paper. Stunning original Dran - his old works are still my favourites. I'd agree with your comment that his older works are preferable.
He is, in many ways, quite a limited artist and one who's images either hit hard or miss totally so it is a shame that, aside from the extraordinary work at the Palais De Tokyo last year, he has been missing more than hitting over the last five or six years. I had half hoped that the monochrome and darker natured work of Paris may have indicated a new direction but his last show was mostly disappointing.
I guess when you are creating work that is akin to the daily cartoons in newspapers - a quick visual pun/joke/comment - then some jokes/comments will always be funnier/more salient than others so I consider myself fortunate that this one still holds up well today despite having been on the wall for six years or so..
[/a]
An excellent Dran
I agree!

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Jul 22, 2016 9:51:49 GMT 1, Hand embellished (with gouache, metallics, and acrylic) screenprint on paper with collaged cut paper elements, pasted to used refrigerator door. God damn man. Delicious piece on an interesting found object. Really lovely. Congratulations. Thanks.
It had been a favourite image of mine for a while, and there are still very few s.woon's that I like more, so it was a real delight to see her release the series of Thalassa's on all sorts of surfaces. She is one of the best...
EDIT: she being s.woon, not the image as I am not in the habit of sexing artwork...

Connor Harrington - New "Grab Your Guise" Print, by disappointed on Jul 21, 2016 13:35:23 GMT 1, Massive Connor fan but this just cries "I want to stay significant without doing more walls". Just get out there for a few more murals. Very disappointing. I have no idea how you read that into this print.

EDIT: I didn't hyperlink the artist name yet it came up in bold as a link, is that an auto 'feature'? Either way, I've removed that nonsense.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Jul 19, 2016 12:21:14 GMT 1, It's a gorgeous piece. Great collection you have. Thanks for the comment coach.
I try to be careful in what I buy which means only buying artists that I consider to have a clear vision, absolute integrity, and, of course, an aesthetic that I can live with on a daily basis. Sadly, the vast majority of art out there (possibly even more so in the 'urban' scene that exists today) is typically lacking at least two of my self imposed criteria.
Anyways, here's the back of that fridge door for you. I'd forgotten how soiled it was..

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Jul 18, 2016 17:39:09 GMT 1, Would love to see the whole fridge door, and how you are displaying it. That is pretty much all of it, there's the inner shelf stuff round the back but that has not been used in the artwork (but is where the piece is signed). I'll sort out a pic later or tomorrow.
As for display, it's been leaning up against a little table since it arrived four years or so ago. I don't really care for placing things inside nasty Perspex boxes which would be the only real way to get it on the wall (and have zero wall space anyway). I think it is easy to become a little precious and fussy in the need to encase and conserve but it's not something that has ever really worried me. The only thing I do avoid is direct light..

Cleon Peterson โข Modernica Chairs, by disappointed on Jul 18, 2016 10:51:06 GMT 1, This is a fine piece of furniture for what seems to be a very fair price. Cleon's graphics work very well indeed.
A pity that it's effectively US only.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Jul 17, 2016 12:09:02 GMT 1, I agree, it's up there with his best print editions.
He can be very hit and miss, with a tendency toward the mawkish and twee that can grate after a while but this series was nicely varied in it's finishing albeit with renderings that ranged from the dreadful to the inspired.
I was fortunate to have pretty free choice at the time as only four or five had sold but this one easily stood out as my favourite. Maybe because of my long affection for The Life of Brian..

Thank you coach.
Credit to the artists of course as whilst any fool can buy this stuff, it's much harder to create.

Barry McGee - A ghost in the family, by disappointed on Jul 4, 2016 22:33:03 GMT 1, Gives me the chance to connect with the artist more, deeply than just buying a print and tacking it to a wall and consider that i know everything about the artist This is a bizarrely aggressive, judgemental, and somewhat presumptive, statement.
Do you believe that anyone buying an artwork by Kilgallan, McGee, or any other artist for that matter, actually considers that they 'know everything about the artist'?

Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Jul 4, 2016 19:50:10 GMT 1, Beautiful. Especially the drawing. I think he's used the same model before. Is the canvas picture a detail shot or the whole thing? Thanks, yeah, he's a favourite of mine. All these images are details of larger works.
The drawing includes elements used in a painting, and some smaller studies, from Harrington's Headless Heroes exhibition a few years ago so you may have seen the model before, albeit in other media.
