Sad news story just popped up..., by disappointed on Jun 19, 2018 12:50:33 GMT 1, The state of the comments under the Daily Mail article on this sad incident are something else, with way too many expressing comments along the lines of 'they deserved it', etc. Total lack of empathy for anyone outside of their own narrow world views...
I know how the DM readership is but, like rubber necking a car crash, it's always grimly fascinating to peep a DM comment section if only to remind oneself how some people think and just how out of touch they seem to be with, in this case, what these three kids were doing and why they were doing it.

Advices about Manchester area, by disappointed on Jun 2, 2018 9:44:33 GMT 1, The corn exchange is a food court now, as is the recently reopened Mackie Mayors which, for me, was far better used as a skate park than the contrived, soulless, nonsense it has now become. Best thing about arriving in Manchester by train, or leaving even, is that within spitting distance of Piccadilly are tap rooms of two of the UKs very best brewery’s - Track and Cloudwater... Cloudwater is among the best of the best of UK craft brewers. Some great beers. Another great Mancs brewery is Runaway also located city central. Not so keen on Runaway myself, but agree on Cloudwater although I'd say Track are now making more consistently interesting beers than CW.I'm heading up there this morning to pick up a few cans of the Track x Cloudwater collaboration ....

Advices about Manchester area, by disappointed on Jun 2, 2018 9:42:24 GMT 1, Thanks guys for your advices. Our guesthouse will be in the east of Manchester, i noticed a National Park named "Peak District", i hope we could have a good family time between walks into the wild and the city. Plenty of fine walking, and some very pretty little towns and villages to explore in the Peak District. And some great show caves too, notably around Castleton.
Sounds like a good balance of town and country, have fun..

Invader • Invasion Kits IK, by disappointed on Jun 1, 2018 14:48:14 GMT 1, You should just buy the tiles, make your own copy for the wall, and leave the actual piece sealed and in a drawer somewhere as, for display purposes, there would be zero difference. I'm not as hung up on condition issues as many seem to be but f I were ever looking for one of these I would only really consider an unopened one. Okay... then photocopy all your art and put the “actual” piece in a flat folder... 😃 good thing is - everyone can do as they please. I’m happy to own an IK and display it with pride.
That is not the same thing at all though is it? A bunch of store bought tiles are EXACTLY the same, to any eye, whereas a photocopy is, well, a photocopy.
And, you can wind your neck in with the attitude, I wasn't being prescriptive...

Faile and Cleon Peterson originals..., by disappointed on Jun 1, 2018 8:06:03 GMT 1, There has been a LOT of interest in the Peterson so that is now provisionally sold, subject to working through a few logistical issues.
Thanks for the interest and PMs and, should the proposed deal not work out, I’ll follow up with other interested parties.

Faile and Cleon Peterson originals..., by disappointed on May 31, 2018 22:48:32 GMT 1, Man...that Cleon is calling my name. Told myself I'm on restriction until July. Good luck with it! You wouldn't ship it to the US anyway, right? Right?
Ha!
Outside the UK/EU is a little more hassle these days so a more local sale would be preferable but, that said, nothing is impossible...

Faile and Cleon Peterson originals..., by disappointed on May 31, 2018 22:08:06 GMT 1, First up is a very early Faile piece from their short 2004 residency in London. This is a stencil on a mostly grey and white background painted onto a heavy lump of wood 43cms x 24cms x 3.5cms. No idea on prices for something like this as it may not appeal to those who prefer their cleaner, more graphic later works but, on the flipside, this is an interesting example of where they came from visually. The last image is the same stencil on the streets of Berlin..
Second up is this unique piece from 2007, as seen in the Faile Prints and Originals 1999-2009 book. It's silkscreen on torn paper with the usual Faile embellishments and is signed 'Faile' and '1986' in pencil on the front. This has been framed by misterframerman. Bit unsure on value but maybe around £2000?
Finally, a very eye catching Cleon Peterson original. Black and neon orange/red acrylic on 31cms x 24cms wood, signed and dated on the reverse. Ideally, I'd like to get back what I paid for it which, IIRC, was £1200..

Invader • Space File, Red & Black , by disappointed on May 29, 2018 12:01:54 GMT 1, One thing that has never concerned me is the opinion of the majority. Ah but maybe if it was one of those “tacky” embossed prints then you’d get the £4K your asking :-D
Yeah, but that’s assuming I was buying art as a speculator when, in reality, I was never going to buy those as they were cheap, gimmicky, imitations of original works. I dread to think how uninspired , and how awful, my walls would look had I bought into everything the ‘majority’ suck up every week rather than art that I myself liked, regardless of wherever the latest hype train was heading...
You don’t like this or think it’s worth my asking price? Then this probably isn’t the thread for you...

Invader • Space File, Red & Black , by disappointed on May 28, 2018 18:01:57 GMT 1, The cost to repair would not be a huge amount.. Very true.. But hassle and more shipping risks for buyer
It's a very minor hassle to anyone looking for one of the better, and rarer, Invader prints.
Find me a mint one for sale for price comparison and then we can discuss the impact of any required conservation work on what I should expect as a sale price.

Correct.

Invader • Space File, Red & Black , by disappointed on May 28, 2018 15:24:20 GMT 1,
I am still, unsuccessfully, trying to free up space so is there any interest in a very large (100cms x 70cms), low edition (x of 30), early Invader print? It’s a two colour screen on slightly bleached paper. I have emails confirming purchase and shipping from orbi/space shop..
It’s a pure image, none of the tacky embossing that he got into in years that followed, no celebrity homages, just a clean and elegant image as per the best of his street work.
The print was in a plan chest until I got rid of said chest a couple of years ago so was rolled until now. In the spirit of full discosure, there are three rolling/storage creases which, if an issue, will need a little time with a paper conservator to remove but, given the age of the print it is otherwise in excellent condition. Two creases are on the left hand edge and a very small one is also present on the lower edge. I’ve had to play with contrast in order to show them as they are not especially clear in direct light...
Given the size (his largest print!), the low edition size, and even with the relatively minor condition issues I’d say this is worth offers over £4000?
That said, please only PM if you are serious about potentially taking this off my hands..
Thanks

And does it still have the sprung dance floor? It had a good indie night there. Yeah, the Ritz is still there although it is, of course, the O2 Ritz now...

D*face DSTQ, Saddammed, and Lung bookcase..., by disappointed on May 22, 2018 17:22:54 GMT 1, Would anyone be interested in a mint Dog Save The Queen screenprint (silver wings, pink sprayed tongue). Signed from the POW edition of 250. Its been stored flat forever and, as such, is pretty much mint.
Looking at it when taking photos this afternoon, there is a weird doppled print effect, almost like overspray, on the upper edge/face of the print, no more than 0.5cms or so in depth and decreasing in thickness from right to left. That's been there since day one but I've never noticed it before. I've tried to capture that but it's tricky with my phone. If it is bothersome it would easily matt out when framed.
Based on the last couple of sales recorded on ebay how does £800 (plus shipping) seem?
Secondly, a Saddamned print on canvas from the edition of (I think) 25. £2000 plus shipping? Signed on the 'bill' label and on the reverse..
Finally an odd one, and a bit of a rarity, a D*face x Steve Watson Lung bookcase. This is a very heavy piece, made of cold formed steel with laser cut graphics depicting D*Face's iconic d dog, falling bombs, and a burning book and painted/finished with white Drylac series 4 ‘Anti-graffiti’ powder coating. This is 100cms x 50cms x 30cms and has a rubber 'foot'/sleeve to protect floors and two anti slip rubber buttons on the reverse to protect it and the wall it leans against. I can see no flaws apart from a small scrape on the leading edge of the shelf ...
It's designed as a bookcase but, for me, has been working well enough as temporary storage for incoming mail.
One of only nine, all signed by D*Face and Steve Watson. I've no idea on price so, sorry, offers?
For reference, the bookcase is resting on artificial turf for these photos.
I'm the original owner of all these pieces...
As I'm feeling summery I'll throw in a D*face Kangol hat to whoever buys one of these first. Never worn of course as it is quite awful. The hat may well be a disincentive but I'll take the risk...

No really.... what’s with all the bast for sale?, by disappointed on May 22, 2018 9:41:10 GMT 1, =\ You know when you're young, you really like a musician artist, but then you get a bit more life experience and you realize your favorite artist in high school was completes**t. Bast is alright, but I put Faile in that category. There, I said. Glad to have that off my chest. I wouldn't call Faile "Completes**t". Maybe your tastes just changed. Re Faile, I also have way less interest in them than I did ten to twelve years ago as, whilst they have improved technically and in the scope of their work, their base imagery has just become far less exciting. Aiko added so much to their work despite her solo work being pretty poor in itself. It’s true what they say about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts I guess...

No really.... what’s with all the bast for sale?, by disappointed on May 21, 2018 22:20:38 GMT 1, To me, the more revealing question is how a commercial hack like Jerkface nowadays can command $2000 for a giclee variant when far more interesting limited edition Bast screenprints continue to sell for around $500. On the plus side, price stability all but guarantees that his works won't fall into the hands of flippers. There has always been a disconnect between the genuinely brilliant, interesting, ground breaking art and the art that sells (for whatever reason) and that disconnect seems to be especially notable in the ‘urban’ scene.
I’ve given up on shrugging and rolling my eyes at how all the dreary, uninspiring, but hype driven flavours of the month become (briefly) popular before disappearing into nowhere. In years to come you can be sure that there are going to be an awful lot of folk flicking through portfolios of awful art that they paid way, way over the odds for and wondering what possessed them.

Conor Harrington Hand finished Carnival and A3 Drawing, by disappointed on May 20, 2018 15:47:07 GMT 1, Yeah, the depth of his skills across so many mediums is impressive..
I've another drawing that is comparable in quality but, aside from that, I only know of 2 or 3 CH drawings that I'd say are as complete, and of such quality, as this one.
That said, I've been looking at it for 8 or 9 years and something else has recently taken it's long held place on my walls so it's time to try and move it on..
