Saw his work at Brighton Art Fair last year - the textures are amazing.

Artists You Might Not Know, by k2 on Jan 27, 2017 23:39:16 GMT 1, Am I the only one that thinks this thread should actually be it's own subforum. That way people can post topics about specific artists and have real conversations about them instead of just dropping links with a few pics. Daniel Silk can we look into making that change. And maybe a subforum for art that's not urban/street?
Have to agree - as a newcomer to this forum, this thread is by far my favourite thing about it.

Visit BRIGHTON ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art, Galleries, Events, by k2 on Jan 25, 2017 18:39:37 GMT 1, is the blek piece still there for example? Yeah it is - slightly worse for wear. It was tagged at some point (not in a good way) and they did a slightly clumsy job of cleaning it up. Still a nice piece though.
It's on the side of Art Republic which is worth having a look in, although I do normally try not to get stuck talking to anyone as it's a bit sales-y. Nice Kai and Sunny in the window right now though if you don't make it through the door.
Other than that, good advice in this recent thread - urbanartassociation.com/thread/143306/urban-art-brighton

Art republic, by k2 on Jan 1, 2017 18:57:34 GMT 1, They have a storage unit full of prints (not sure if only framed prints) at Big Yellow Storage company - no idea how long they're kept there for, or if it's just a temporary overspill. I know there's no climate control at the storage place, so I was surprised to seem them using it for storing artwork.

Millo, by k2 on Dec 28, 2016 15:45:48 GMT 1, Very nice!
Did you get stung on the import duty? I saw they declared value at $20 on the tube, but I still ended up paying ยฃ11ish, of which ยฃ8 was a handling fee.
Agree about the texture of the print.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by k2 on Dec 26, 2016 1:07:30 GMT 1, Not urban perhaps (not even really sure what that means), but framed this Heike Roesel etching for my wife for Christmas. Some really nice detail in there, which you can't see in my terrible photograph of course.

Millo, by k2 on Dec 23, 2016 16:50:33 GMT 1, My print arrived today - the hand finishing looks good, although I think his work looks best with a bolder/brighter colour to contrast the line work.
Very happy with it - should frame up nicely.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by k2 on Dec 13, 2016 14:49:16 GMT 1, I used to run websites with traffic of over 1 million hits per day, this was quite some years ago and my hosting bill was not bad. Nowadays hosting costs are surely much much cheaper. They just try to do this stuff on the cheap rather than properly and professionally.
Unfortunately building and maintaining a system that can handle sudden surges in concurrent users, as happens with more popular drops, isn't easy or cheap. Inadequate infrastructure will just fall over, as seen with the d-face drop the other day. Given the option of rolling their own (and all that comes with it) or using a relatively stable third party system for a nominal fee, it's a no brainer for most people.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by k2 on Dec 9, 2016 3:18:28 GMT 1, The level of detail on this is stunning
Nice print - I also have one of these, and love it! Also love his 'King of the Woods', which would look great alongside this. His screen prints are of fantastic quality.
Graham recently relaunched his website with a lot of his work - boxbird.co.uk for anyone interested.
Full disclosure: my studio-mate's work is also featured on the site.

There's one on eBay at the moment - seems expensive, but not sure how it compares to recent sales.

Tax & buying art, by k2 on Dec 3, 2016 2:36:37 GMT 1, Not so cluded up at all on doing your own tax returns etc so asking this and it may appear a dumb question and if it is I apologise. If you earn over ยฃ43k you have to pay 40% tax, so if I'm earning ยฃ80k for example, rather than paying the 40% 'super tax' of ยฃ14800 as well as the ยฃ8600 20% tax for the first ยฃ43k, could I buy ยฃ15k of art and claim it back as 'office equipment/decoration' every year? therefore only paying ยฃ8600 a year of taxes every year & having a great art collection?
Whether or not you can justify it as a business expense is one thing. But even if you could, I don't think it would work like that. Spending 15k on an 'expense' wouldn't wipe out your additional tax liability, it would reduce your profit from 80k to 65k. So you'd be paying 40% on 22k rather than 37k.
(I am very much not an accountant, so treat this reply with caution!)

Louis Masai - We're Stuffed โJONAS & THE WHALEโ HAND PAINTED, by k2 on Nov 25, 2016 20:11:52 GMT 1, Hi!
Just curious as to why you're selling this. I bought one too, and initially was slightly disappointed and regretted not buying the silver version (I wasn't too keen on the addition of the hand finished bubbles). However I've since had it framed as my wife really liked it (doesn't happen often) and it's really grown on me...
Good luck with the sale!

Your latest Art Purchase?, by k2 on Nov 19, 2016 22:51:29 GMT 1, Local framer ? No worries and welcome Thanks!
The Liam Snootle was already in the tray frame. The Ruben Sanchez and Graham Carter, I used Nielsen 60x80 frames with some spacers from 3dframing.co.uk. It's *almost* ideal, but the spacers are slightly too wide for the frames, and are more visible than I'd like them to be. But they were cheap.
The Louis Masai was framed in Brighton - really happy with it.
I'm moving back to Falmouth in Jan... it's been calling me home for 20 years and I've finally given in!
