Brexit, by k2 on Jul 31, 2019 16:42:49 GMT 1, You're the 'a pound is a pound' guy, right? No, that's Harold Wilson. No, he's the 'pound in your pocket' guy. And for what it's worth, it was a mistake then to play down the impact of that devaluation, whether or not you agree with why he did it.

Brexit, by k2 on Jul 31, 2019 16:23:26 GMT 1, Huh? First where is the The WTO is the place where countries negotiate the rules of international trade - there are 164 members and, if they don't have free trade agreements with each other, they trade under "WTO rules". Which are? Every WTO member has a list of tariffs (taxes on imports of goods) and quotas (limits on the number of goods) that they apply to other countries. These are known as their WTO schedules. The average EU tariff is pretty low (about 2.8% for non-agricultural products) - but, in some sectors, tariffs can be quite high. Under WTO rules, after Brexit, cars would be taxed at 10% when they crossed the UK-EU border. And agricultural tariffs would be significantly higher, rising to an average of more than 35% for dairy products. It's important to remember that, under the WTO's "most favoured nation" rules, the UK couldn't just lower tariffs for the EU, or any specific country, unless it had agreed a trade deal. It has to treat every WTO member around the world with which it does not have a trade deal in the same way. The entire reason the WTO exists is to promote global free trade and reduce tariffs as much as possible. And yes I'm aware how it works. You're the 'a pound is a pound' guy, right?

Banksy's on eBay โข Real or Fake?, by k2 on Jul 30, 2019 16:27:47 GMT 1, Dan, why are you posting this crap ? They are affiliate links.
If you click the link to view the crap then buy something else from eBay within 24 hours (it doesn't have to be the item from the original link) then the affiliate will receive a cut.
With respect to the owner of the site who can do what he likes of course, this sort of behaviour cheapens a forum and can rapidly alienate the membership.
Edit: There's nothing wrong with affiliate links per se, and of course there's nothing wrong with tweaking the site to help pay for itself. But perhaps a better tactic would be to automatically rewrite any eBay links that are posted organically by members to include your affiliate code, rather than posting links for the sake of it simply to generate tracked clicks.

Stik Lovers, by k2 on Jul 27, 2019 14:52:00 GMT 1, Hello everyone, First time posting on this forum, so please be gentle. We have a couple of expensive big life moments coming up (getting married and moving house) and our funds just cannot stretch to doing both within 6 months of each other. So..... We are considering selling our only valuable and treasured print, whom we lovingly knick named Bertie and Gertie aka "Lovers" by Stik in blue. We are just looking for advice if possible for how and where to sell a piece like this. Also if anyone could give us a rough value as we haven't seen one sell for a while. We've read horror stories of scams and credit card charge backs from both individuals and galleries. The print is in a good condition, been hanging on our wall for a few years now, out of direct sunlight and we do have its COA. We are in the UK. Thank you in advance for any and all advice or help
Hi Sarah
I sold mine in March for ยฃ18k. It was also framed and with COA. It was an easy sale at that figure - I think I could have sold it three times over, and had higher offers from overseas but wanted an easier life.
Best advice I could give would be to take your time and ignore any unhelpful advice that you may receive on here with people offering you much less.
Feel free to message me if I can help - there were other people who were interested in mine who may still be looking. Perhaps I could put you in touch or something.
Good luck!

If you hope that nothing will change once we leave, sounds like youโre pretty happy with life in the EU.

Original works from new artists??, by k2 on Jul 24, 2019 23:39:37 GMT 1, Something that might help - if you look on Artsy, you can filter by a price range and/or by size. So let's say you want to spend somewhere between $1000 and $5000, and you want something substantial - so perhaps 32 inches minimum in both dimensions, you can generate a search: www.artsy.net/collect/painting?price_range=1000-5000&height=32-%2A&width=32-%2AFrom there you can scroll through the hundreds (thousands?) of pieces that are available within your price range and see if anything catches your eye. When you find a piece you like, clicking to view more works by the artist will lead you down a rabbit hole - you'll end up with more and more browser tabs open. Before you know it, 3 days have gone by, you've barely moved, eaten or slept, and your loved ones are starting to get concerned for your welfare. Fun though. Learn something new every day! ๐ Can you do this from the app as can figure how you start a search bar for a particular artist To be honest, I'm not sure. If I click the link that I posted on my phone, it opens the app with that search preselected. And I can edit my filters to adjust the criteria however I want.
But I can't see how to to begin a new search of that type from the app!

Are you able to take a picture of the back of the piece? It might make it easier to understand the challenge

Million Dollar Banksy, MillionDollarBanksy.com, by k2 on Jul 16, 2019 12:36:42 GMT 1, "I shredded this image of Banksy in 3.500 pieces, every piece is 1cm / 1cm"
but ....."If you buy 9 pieces I give you one piece of 3cm / 3cm, sounds fair right?"
3 x 3 = 9 loser!! haha I think the point is that the text says the image has already been shredded into 1cm squares, yet somehow if 9 pieces are purchased then a 3cm x 3cm piece will be provided.
Bignell's gonna be busy from the sounds of it.

Prescription Art Not Responsive , by k2 on Jul 15, 2019 12:14:10 GMT 1, Can you not read? All sounds very reasonable to me. James is a great guy to deal with and clearly getting it sorted! What? Are you serious? Where is he "getting it sorted"? Look at P.A.'s final paragraph where, to paraphrase, he says he is going to make the customer wait more than a fortnight for "trashing him" over the internet. Perhaps some people are happy to promote such vindictive behaviour but I'm certainly not. I read it as him saying that trashing his business may harm his finances, making it more difficult to sort out a refund, rather than him being deliberately vindictive.
Edit: that's not a comment on the rights or wrongs of the situation though. Sounds like this could have been handled better with clearer communication on both sides.

Prescription Art Not Responsive , by k2 on Jul 14, 2019 20:40:11 GMT 1, Out of interest, were you tempted by the offer of the partial refund? If youโre framing it anyway and the front is fine, must have been tempting. No, 1000 off was the refund and this piece isnโt even worth half of what I paid in its condition. It also isnโt the correct size and appears to have been trimmed after it was inspected.ย
Ouch - I assumed it would be a larger discount.
Hope you get your money back swiftly.

Prescription Art Not Responsive , by k2 on Jul 14, 2019 20:02:13 GMT 1, You should have communicated with him privately.. he would have sorted it. Youโve shouted your mouth off publicly and pissed him off.. you arenโt in anyway to blame for the situation but you are to blame for dealing with it in this way and I presume youโve learnt itโs not the way to deal with things Iโve been trying and he is not responding though he reads my messages. So far I have nothing as to a resolution and have only heard he doesnโt have the money. Iโve never been put in a situation like this , this is a first for me and Iโm unsure what I should be doing. Iโm not sure if I should get a lawyer involved as this doesnโt seem like a priority to him.ย

Prescription Art Not Responsive , by k2 on Jul 12, 2019 13:37:16 GMT 1, This was so avoidable for both sides I donโt even know why we came to this. How does one spend $20k on art without seeing it first? Blows my mind. How does a gallery or anyone for that matter sell something and before making sure the transaction is completed, already spends the money? This is big money, Where Iโm from people would be looking for you if you misrepresented something in a sale and then could not refund the money instantly. Hope it gets resolved. You have no issue with this being a public matter because a) the print was nowhere near mint and b) the offer of refund in instalments. Hope a valuable lesson has been learned by both parties. I think the refund issue is an interesting one. I do not know the details of this particular case and have no interest in speculating on it, so the comments below should not be seen as relating to this transaction.
It seems to me that a situation like this could easily arise when an item is sold on consignment, and when the owner of the piece is paid quickly.
I know that, at least within the EU, distance-selling regulations provide a buyer a right to cancel/refund without providing a reason for a limited period. I would assume this means that those selling through consignment should not be paid until this cooling-off period has expired, but then this creates additional risk for the seller in the case of bankruptcy or liquidation in the interim period if funds are not held in a separate 'client account', as they might be held by a solicitor during a property transaction.
I suppose the alternative would be for the middle-man to hold enough funds to be able to provide the refund in the event that is requested, effectively then taking ownership of the piece. But for high value pieces this may be unrealistic.
When selling / buying a consigned piece, perhaps insisting on some kind of third-party Escrow agreement would be sensible for all parties.

KAWS has left Perrotin, the gallery that has represented him, by k2 on Jul 11, 2019 14:14:46 GMT 1, Puh-lease, such a liar. You put it out there that I knew nowt only after the sellout. Then you say I knew before the sell out. Britain needs a new leader. I think you are a good fit. Contradictary, careless, and most important of all, "special". #metoo Didnt accuse you of such a thing. I edited the question to simplify things for you Does it really matter at this point? If others were able to buy based on information that you were able to share, hopefully their gratitude is enough of a reward for you.
This dick measuring contest is quite tiresome.

33 screenprint, by k2 on Jul 11, 2019 13:49:21 GMT 1, Yes, the concept of paintings revealing concepts that you can't put in to words is an interesting one. Although I am very much an atheist, I have spent many a time in the Sainsbury's wing of the National Gallery looking at the early Renaissance religious paintings. I find some of them extraordinary and can get lost in them for hours. Have you been to Florence and, in particular, the San Marco monastery? Each dormitory cell has a fresco painted by Fra Angelico. It is some of the most profound and moving art you are ever likely to see. No, but Iโd love to visit there one day. Also an atheist. And I wonder about the difference in emotion felt by a person with faith when viewing such masterpieces. I share your love of religious art, regardless of our shared lack of faith. If you take a look at my IG you will see my modest collection of religious medieval manuscripts, for example. Donโt get me started on Caravaggio! My wife is an atheist (as am I), but she was raised as a Catholic - nuns as teachers, the full works. In one particular room of the Vatican she had a fairly violent reaction to a particular piece - unfortunately I forget which due to the drama at the time. She later put it down to heat stroke, but it was certainly more than that at the time.

33 screenprint, by k2 on Jul 10, 2019 16:40:37 GMT 1, Icesay : yes, I am the artist atom Gallery and those who liked that comment: Actually had to laugh, seems you are some of the โaverage humansโ mentioned in the โblurbโ - unreal/meaningless to you then... Correct way for new artists to act when given criticism : engage in discussion, perhaps taking some comments on board, perhaps disagreeing with other comments.
Wrong way for new artists to act when given criticism : suggest that those taking time to provide feedback that you don't agree with are simply too average to understand.
For what it's worth, Atom Gallery's comments seemed entirely valid to me - the blurb *is* poorly written, littered with grammatical errors and duplicated words. To be frank, I've read it 3 or 4 times and I have no idea what it's saying.
But nice to see someone getting off their arse and doing something - I'd be far too lazy. Well done, and good luck with the release!

He's got a whole series of "I WANT" pieces, although this one isn't listed on his site.

I really miss VNA magazine, by k2 on Jul 8, 2019 0:23:18 GMT 1, Made it, and it was worth the trip! Fabulous - thank you for this. Definitely looks like a worthwhile trip.
ROA's works sometimes look better as they age and get tagged. The urban decay works well with the subject matter I think. However in this case I do think this is unfortunate - I'm not sure of the etiquette of it all, but I struggle to imagine how someone could block out over such a fabulous piece in this way.
