Oh my! That slide is something else. It helps that I love Patti!

Recommended Art Books, by Coach on Mar 18, 2021 11:31:10 GMT 1, Morning, I`m looking for a UAA member who lives in the Netherlands and would be willing to do me a kind favour. Essentially I`m trying to buy a book from a Dutch supplier but they won`t deliver to the UK citing the Brexit changes and import difficulties. The book I`m trying to buy isn`t expensive but I can`t find it elsewhere as it`s out of print. The favour I`m looking for is for a resident of the Netherlands to buy the book, stick my address on it when it gets sent to their house, and then send it to me in the UK. I will of course cover all the costs and happy to pay a fee on top for time and effort. I would offer some art in exchange but I honestly have nothing worthwhile. Please let me know if you`re able to help me out and I can let you know the details of the book supplier and the book and we can take it from there. Netherlands resident here willing to help out.
This is what this forum can and should be about. Polite discord and help. I doff my cap.

I bought the Wall book inscribed and signed for my youngest a couple of years ago.
But that pails into insignificance compared to your beauty.

I’m starting to feel like I’m being a little too showy, so I’ll stop until someone else posts some! The signed BR book was a great pick up mate.

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by Coach on Mar 17, 2021 17:38:03 GMT 1, Resell value sure comes up often for someone who doesn't care about the resell value of something he will never sell at resell value whatever it s fake or real.. Just saying , Don't take this post at face(or resell) value.. No, it's not about the value. I just don't want to finance fakes. Sure, I could buy a Lazarides piece and could resell it in 5 years with a win. It's a pretty safe thing. But as I never would resell any of my artworks, I don't care about reselling values. I don't need a written authenticity, as I am the only person who needs to know that it's legit. Thus, I would like to buy a piece which has no value for the market, but a high value for myself.
I think that you will struggle to find someone willing to part with a genuine tenner for €100 or less, just because it does but have a Laz coa, I’m afraid.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Coach on Mar 17, 2021 15:43:40 GMT 1, Still in the process of reducing my collection but every now and then I can't resist a little treat: Nan Goldin - Swan like embrace hand signed verso, 20x15cm, from a charity edition I was after a NG for a while and this one finally ticked all the boxes. The purchase supports the Sackler PAIN charity which is doing great work for a dark and difficult topic. Back in 1995, some friends decided to get on a rather long train ride from south-west Germany all the way up to Berlin ( must have been at least 10 hours back then ). For whatever reason I did not join them. Up until today, I regret my decision - not having seen the wrapped Reichstag still bugs me enormously. Bought this beauty from nurturenature.org - they are hand signed by Christo and Jeanne Claude who have donated them to the charity. There is still a good selection of various prints available. Size is approx 29x40cm
Both lovely pieces. But the Goldin is just a first class example of her work. Love it.

King ROBBO 🇬🇧 Banksy v King Robbo • Street Art, by Coach on Mar 16, 2021 23:24:30 GMT 1, I’d much rather see this happen than Perspex going up or even worse the wall being cut out and sold. It’s not meant to last that’s part of its beauty
My view exactly. Spot on. Cut out of the wall the piece loses all its context. It’s not meant to be in a home or gallery Covered in Perspex it becomes sterile, mute and ugly. Let it be. Enjoy it while it lasts. But it won’t last for ever. It’s ephemeral. That said, I do take the point about respect.

Banksy Owners! How do you intend to avoid capital gains tax?, by Coach on Mar 16, 2021 21:28:00 GMT 1, Well, seeing as how we're here and all, I'd like to hear that argument. Wouldn't it effectively suggest that ownership of anything was only temporary, valid for the life of the purchaser? The argument would be that if we were to live in a truly equal society, then it is wrong that some people inherit a fortune, whilst others inherit nothing. And that perpetuates a division in society between the haves and the have nots. In return, other taxes would be reduced, in view of the increased income from inheritance tax. I’m not saying that I advocate for this. Merely that there is an argument that can be made.
Just found this. Interesting read.

Banksy Owners! How do you intend to avoid capital gains tax?, by Coach on Mar 16, 2021 21:27:30 GMT 1, Im sorry.. but there is no argument at all for 100% inheritance tax They are different taxes. The money needs to be raised one way or another. And there’s a reasonably good argument for 100% inheritance tax.
Hello mate. Hope you are well. We will have to beg to differ. I think an argument can be made. It can be discussed. It may well be an argument that you don’t agree with. And you would be in the majority I’m certain. But an argument nonetheless.

Banksy Owners! How do you intend to avoid capital gains tax?, by Coach on Mar 16, 2021 21:18:44 GMT 1, They are different taxes. The money needs to be raised one way or another. And there’s a reasonably good argument for 100% inheritance tax. For clarity, I'm aware IHT and CGT are different But it's the double-taxation I meant by 'same deal' = ie in both cases the money is taxed at source, then taxed a second time. That said, if I ever am in a position where CGT may be liable, I'll do everything *legal* I can to avoid it.
I’m sorry, I don’t think I explained myself very well. I wasn’t suggesting that you were unaware that they were different taxes. My point was that we live in a society with a myriad of taxes. The government’s income has to come from somewhere. If one is scrapped something else has to be increased or a new tax has to be introduced. I think that it’s fairer to tax people whose assets have increased in value, rather than introduce a new tax Or increase others taxes, which might adversely affect people less able to pay. Or, we have less services paid for by those taxes, which I wouldn’t advocate.

Banksy Owners! How do you intend to avoid capital gains tax?, by Coach on Mar 16, 2021 18:42:34 GMT 1, If you're getting stung for thousands, you're making tens of thousands profit on your £100 bit of paper so it's not too bad. Agreed, but my money was income taxed at source, I paid VAT on purchase. So why should I get penalised on this. (see also, inheritance tax...same deal)
