Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by danvnuk on Aug 28, 2008 21:19:37 GMT 1, I'm blown away - no real volume of Banksy work for ages and suddenly loads of quality apparently overnight...

Banksy - New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina, by danvnuk on Aug 28, 2008 13:17:00 GMT 1, wow - v.nice work.
What I find interesting is that Banksy's style has evolved into almost lifelike 3D'esque figures ...the execution is quite obviously getting better and better....
Glad to see he hasn't completely dropped off the radar.

Laugh Now for sale, by danvnuk on Aug 19, 2008 19:12:05 GMT 1, Pest control or POW? both run authentication services now, will one set of COAs be seen to be preferable over the other? I am sure they are the same thing. When you complete the POW authentification application you go through a Pest Control web page.
That's my understanding as well. It's exactly the same authentication form on the POW site and the Pest control one.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by danvnuk on Aug 18, 2008 22:17:29 GMT 1, yep, your right - should be 70 x 50, don't know if it varies slightly on some of the edition though, or if it has some other significance perhaps, such as edges have been trimmed.

Banksy Bomb Hugger Print, by danvnuk on Aug 15, 2008 10:56:52 GMT 1, I was offered ยฃ8.5k for mine about a year ago.
These just don't seem to be coming up for sale anymore,....the same as a lot of the older prints.
Obviously I keep an eye out for them on Ebay etc Don't think Ive seen a signed one come up for sale this year to be honest.

Banksy Exposed, by danvnuk on Jul 14, 2008 17:54:30 GMT 1, i call bulls**t on this.. i hung out with Banksy at CANS and this aint him... the Mail is barking up the wrong tree; what a surprise. Check out BBC Newsnight tonight.
LOL, Pure Evil - you've given me hope - I really, really hope the Daily Mail has got this completely wrong and end up looking (more) stupid (than normal)
As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, the Googled death notice for a Robin Gunningham 44 from Bristol (not really a common name Gunningham if you ask me) kind of makes me a bit suspect of the story.

Logan Hicks ๐บ๐ธ Stencil Artist โข Photographer โข Street Art, by danvnuk on Jul 4, 2008 11:30:18 GMT 1, Good show - no queues, chilled - but good turnout.
Liked the work, its amazing considering its all stencilled.
Also has some nice (I believe HDR) photography - pretty expensive, but interesting.
The main plus is, as normal - I fell asleep on the train home - but actually woke up before my stop....makes a change not waking up at the end of the line.

The Leonard Street Gallery, by danvnuk on Jun 30, 2008 20:52:27 GMT 1, If true - a real shame, not only for the obvious reason - charity money, punters losing out etc etc
But, went to some great shows there - had some fantastic nights where TLSG featured on the route.
What with this and the Dragon bar going earlier this year, almost feels like the end of an era.

TomTom Prov, by danvnuk on Jun 30, 2008 14:45:23 GMT 1, There is a great deal of sense, but still come rubbsh being spken here TomTom had nothing to do with any fakery o evil doings
I'm not sure if this comment is directed at me, but I never accused Tom Tom of any fakery or evil doings.
It's well known in the past they provided 'authentication' for among other things backdoor prints and a green Weston Super Mare - which caused the falling out with POW.
POW did release a statement a while back saying that a number of forged prints had appeared on the market with receipts from an authorised dealer (Tom Tom) - If these 'forged prints' took the form of re-numbered backdoors with photocopied receipts - then, they're still by definition forgeries.
This has nothing to do with Tom Tom themselves, but nevertheless - based on this - I'd advise caution when buying anything on the secondary market where the only provenance is a Tom Tom receipt. (As others have said - I'd advise caution buying anything on the secondary market to be honest)
I have no axe to grind, the best signed Banksy print I own was purchased from Tom Tom originally.

TomTom Prov, by danvnuk on Jun 30, 2008 12:49:18 GMT 1, Seems to be a bit of confusion here.
Tom Tom as it was closed down. (This was an 'authorised outlet' for POW prints years ago, other 'authorised outlets' being Green Leaf Bookshop etc etc)
Tom Tom re-opened, and is now owned by Art Republic. (This isn't an authorised outlet for POW prints. In so much as there are no longer any 'authorised outlets'. All prints being sold through POW or LAZ)
The Historical issues with Tom Tom, concern the pre-Art Republic owned Tom Tom.
But, saying this, it's a matter of fact that Fake Prints have appeared on the market with Tom Tom receipts and with numbers allocated to Tom Tom prints when it was an authorised outlet.
Therefore, my advice would be:-
Be very careful buying anything on the secondary market (Ebay mainly) with a Tom Tom receipt - you'd definitely want rock solid provenance - the authentication service POW now supplies for a fee is ideal.
If your buying direct from Art Republic/Tom Tom as it is now - then its a recognised well known gallery, and there is no problem with buying from them.

TomTom Prov, by danvnuk on Jun 29, 2008 22:55:52 GMT 1, tom tom wouldnt deal with fake stuff, they deal directly with pow
Various historical issues with Tom Tom:-
Despite having been at one time an authorised outlet for POW prints, and having for sale some extremely nice work....
1) They offered written authentication for some 'grey area' secondary market prints, including backdoor and a Green Weston Super Mare - which caused POW to issue a statement that Tom Tom could not authenticate Banksys work.
2) Much more recently POW issued a 'Product Warning' statement that some forged prints had been turning up on the market, with bogus paperwork (receipts etc) and with print numbers allocated to "retailers that POW supplied" (Namely Tom Tom)
Now - bearing all this in mind - you'd be mad to spend huge amounts of cash on a print based on a Tom Tom receipt alone.
But.........Tom Tom sold loads of perfectly legitimate Banksy prints and originals, so - seeing as POW are now offering to authenticate Banksy prints for a fee, personally - I'd want to see a POW authentication before I'd spend any money.
But, then I'd probably want to see POW authentication if I was purchasing any Banksy work nowadays, no matter where it was purchased from originally.

My dog shat a pair of knickers!, by danvnuk on Jun 25, 2008 10:17:51 GMT 1, my cat had beef string hanging out it's arse. My mum put on rubber gloves and tried to pull it out and the cat made a deep moo sound.
Comedy gold. I'd ask what happened to the moo'ing cat, but I don't want to spoil this delightful image.

After all of yesterday's excitement!, by danvnuk on Jun 18, 2008 16:25:46 GMT 1, Mike just been on there website and that place sounds amazing. I wanna go now too!! How do you know when they open reservations?? Bookings are taken in mid October - once the season is finished. The date is announced on their website. Season finishes on 5th October so I imagine they will open the book about a week later... it usually is full within the day for the next year
El Bulli - I've heard of that, it's in Spain right? one of the best restaurants in the world apparently.

Burning Bridges opens this Friday!, by danvnuk on Jun 13, 2008 12:16:42 GMT 1, I feel like a pig shat in my head!
What time did you fellas leave the Punch and Judy?
I just - and I mean just made the last train (via McDonalds and a couple of cheeky Double Cheeseburgers - standard pished up staggering through the city food)
Fell asleep on the train and woke up near the end of the line (I always do it)
Ended up staggering around a deserted Essex Seaside resort at 2am tryin to remember a cab number.
Nice to put some faces to names (Alsbabar, Manchester Mike, Graeme and Grafter) and also nice that I finally got Hipart Gallerys name right (albeit on the second attempt and after months of blank looks and mental gymnastics) - no idea what's going on there - mental block!!
Ive got a couple of pics I'll stick up later when I get home from work.

Armsrock, Chris Stain and Poncho at BRP., by danvnuk on Jun 13, 2008 10:05:31 GMT 1, Had a wander round this with Lesbianwednesdys last night - what a great show. Incredible art displayed in an unconventional way - more installation than 'art for sale' which is refreshing.
What with the "shacks" the Armsrock shanty town/ delapidated urban buildings and the brilliant life size artwork figures hanging from wires and the old school graffitied train (with Smurfette) with huddled figures getting ready to board, it really is an amazing experience with bundles of atmosphere.
Go see it.

Burning Bridges opens this Friday!, by danvnuk on Jun 13, 2008 9:53:32 GMT 1, Had a really good night (as evidenced by me once again falling asleep on the train, and waking up at the end of the line)
Funnily enough the one piece of art that really stood out for me was the Herakut print (v.unusual for a print to catch my eye in a room packed with original work) Is such a great image, and was extremely well done.... loads and loads of other stuff to peruse - but was too packed and I was too steaming drunk to take it all in. I think this would benefit from another viewing.
Was a nice atmosphere which had spilled outside onto Brick Lane- loads and loads of regular bods from both forums. Great stuff.
As always, really nice show Frankie.

OFF TOPIC: Favorite Beer, by danvnuk on Jun 10, 2008 19:17:10 GMT 1, I'm extremely partial to Japanese Lager - ranked in order of sheer goodness....
Asahi Black (quite hard to find actually, in a bottle anyway - gorgeous stuff)
Kirin
Asahi SuperDry
I also quite like Brooklyn Lager (suprisingly enough from the USA given the name )
Failing that Peroni (Italy)
- and then - if I'm really planning on getting s**tfaced - I'll drink Vespa Martinis - .... bit of an aquired taste these - James Bond's drink, suave, debonair......when I first started drinking em, I was pulling that sucking on a Lemon face....tasted like Jays Drain Cleaner - but now I knock em back like a Pro(fessional alky) - I can only describe the Martini Buzz as spiritual - the beers down there - but up here I'm flying on a higher plane.......only thing is - further to come down and splatter all over the pavement, ironically, that's normally the same demise as the contents of my stomach*
*Kebab.

Burning Bridges opens this Friday!, by danvnuk on Jun 10, 2008 12:46:23 GMT 1, I should be at Sesame, BRP and Frankies do - so good chance I'll get to meet Mike and some of the other bods I haven't met yet.
Make sure to say Hello - I'll be wearing a flip-flop on one foot, a crash helmet and spray on speedos - nothing else.
Easily identified you might think? but bearing in mind, this is Hoxton/Brick Lane and no doubt there will be many people in the same outfit - so make sure it's me before you say hello and commit an embarrassing faux pa.

Silky - Your art?, by danvnuk on Jun 6, 2008 21:43:33 GMT 1, Dan, I would suggest you simply don't return to the stall.
You think? LOL - way ahead of you dude - I never looked back and vowed by the powers of GreySkull never to return.
Might not have been goat at all - I may have ate a human being for all I know.

Silky - Your art?, by danvnuk on Jun 6, 2008 21:30:43 GMT 1, I ate goat once.
It was a curry from a Ghanian curry stall in Exmouth St Market. That day will live with me for ever.
I'm tucking into my goat curry and rice, never tried goat before - thinking - hmmm......bit chewy......I pull this undigestible piece of gristle I've been chewing on for the past 2 mins out of my mouth for inspection - and to my horror, it's grey and ribbed (The word 'ventricle' springs to mind if I was to decribe it)
I couldn't eat it after that. It was either a bit of throat, or the inside of a goats nipple either way, it was just plain wrong.

Silky - Your art?, by danvnuk on Jun 6, 2008 21:22:09 GMT 1, how would you suck a girl goat? you obviously annalysed the question more than me but now you made me think, im guessing lady goats have nipples ??
Surely they are called 'teats'...
"Don't get many of them to the pound missus" - "Nipples like Scammel wheel nuts"
I don't know whats more interesting, the mystery that is Silkys collection, or the goat discussion......
