Doze Green ๐บ๐ธ Print Release โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by danvnuk on May 30, 2008 9:45:05 GMT 1, Great show - I had no preconceived ideas being unfamiliar with both artists work, but I'm pleased I showed up - the artwork(especially the larger canvases) were fantastic.
Doze Green's "Oddensity" piece was the star of the show for me, striking and full of intricate detail, not obvious at first glance.
I was told by TLSG's Hannah that there are references to Mary Magdalene, hallucinogenic drugs and who knows what else!
I believe it was 15k - and if I had that sort of Moolah to drop on some art - I'd have snapped it up. Lovely.
In any case, as always nice to see some of the usual faces, drink free booze and discuss art.
I took a couple of pics of the art - but as Romanwygs are so fantastic - no point uploading them.
oh - I should add - the artists and their entourage really 'looked the part' Think 'The Specials' or the Blues Brothers - sharp suits, pork pie hats and dark sunglasses (indoors at night.)

MP's to vote on trousering 23k expenses., by danvnuk on May 28, 2008 10:17:44 GMT 1, Everything the government does gets on my tit ends, its all about votes and money and never about trying to improve the country. My g/f is sick of my complaining about the price of petrol and the fact that everytime i turn on the telly there is a new kid that has been stabbed and no one is doing fu ck all about it.
You and me both mate - I'm exactly the same, once I get started talking about it....I normally go off on a rant barely drawing breath for 5 mins.

MP's to vote on trousering 23k expenses., by danvnuk on May 28, 2008 9:42:01 GMT 1, dan, why dont you copy the above to an email & send it out, the theory is that if people feel strongly enough about a subject, they'll forward it to everyone on their address book, & it can reach an audience of millions inside a week. i'd love to see it in 3 days time, knowing where it originally came from.
RudeCopper, Good idea - Ive sent it to a few choice people in my address book.
Wiseblood - thanks fella - that should get the ball rolling.
It really gets on my tits - this is on top of the 15k pay rise they are thinking of awarding themselves! They must think the electorate is completely stupid.
So, roll up, roll up - takes 2 mins to contact your MP using the instructions above and make your displeasure felt. ;D
Oh - can I add - this isn't my idea - someone else on another forum I frequent started this off, I'm just promoting the idea as I think it's a good one.
So rest assured, off in the wilds of the Internet other people are busily pestering their MP's too.

MP's to vote on trousering 23k expenses., by danvnuk on May 27, 2008 21:46:40 GMT 1, news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7420848.stm
Evening All,
I'm not normally one for appealing to the masses like this - but this has really wound me up.
It seems our elected representatives have had enough of actually having to account for what they spend our taxpayers money on - and are considering voting themselves a 23k yearly lump sum for those everyday little things they need in their second homes etc.....no receipts needed of course.
So....
If like me, you feel these greedy bastards are pushing their luck a bit too far - perhaps, like me - you'd like to look your MP up using this link:-
www.theyworkforyou.com/
And email them along these lines.... __________________________________________________
Dear *********,
Further to the latest news that Speaker Michael Martin wishes to get through Parliament a system whereby members will be given a blanket allowance of ยฃ23,000 per annum to spend on second homes, without any requirement to provide financial records as is currently the case, I wish to inform you of my position on this.
Please rest assured that should you vote for this ยฃ23,000 lump sum to cover MP's expenses:
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7420848.stm
You will not be getting my vote in any future election. I'm increasingly irritated at the sleaze and corruption in Parliament that I seem to read about almost every day.
Enough is enough.
You should all be 100% financially accountable to the public whom you serve. We will all have to tighten our belts in the next few years and this should also apply to those who placed us all in this position.
Yours sincerely,
____________________________________________________
If enough people threaten their MP's - they'll think twice. ;D

banksey used to explain 10p rule!!, by danvnuk on May 14, 2008 10:28:47 GMT 1, So much Anger in Labour supporters there is......it stems from fear, as a great (green) man once said - "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to a kicking at the polls"
I've noticed a tendency for Labour bods to wade in slinging abuse all over the place. No idea why.
In any case - Labour/Tory - its all so old hat - I'll vote for whoever had the best ideas, or looks the best bet at the time - I refuse to be pigeonholed as a supporter of any party.
Although, I will say - right now - I detest 'Nu-Labour' ;D

Paul Insect โข Who to Believe Print, by danvnuk on May 14, 2008 10:15:37 GMT 1, This stinks of Laz again... It can't be a coincidence that "hand-finished" versions a standard SG print come out in quick succession where Laz represents both artists (added to the hand-finished Conor Harringtons as a non-SG example)............ In all, this is a really disappointing trend though.
Call me cynical, but what this is - is creating an affordable product for every level of the market - kind of like the way car manafacturers have 5 different versions of the same car to capture every budget - expect to see it become the 'norm'
The lucky few on a tighter budget get the 'standard' print.
Can't afford an original, but want something a bit better than the bog-standard? Get a hand finished.
Money to burn? - here's an original.

Is Nick Walker Banksy?, by danvnuk on May 13, 2008 22:17:53 GMT 1, I can't believe this is seriously being discussed. Look at NW's work - Look at Banksy's. The only similiarity is that they both do stencils.
There's no humour in Nick Walkers work, no sarcasm, no political message, that's before you consider that artistically their respective styles are nothing alike - if NW is Banksy, I'll punch myself in the bollocks.
Personally, I think Banksy is Bullimic 2-Jags John Prescott - and until I see footage of them both together in the same room, I'll take that fact as gospel.

BONGO ONCE AGAIN RAISE QUESTION ON BANKSYART.ORG, by danvnuk on May 9, 2008 15:58:31 GMT 1, How about we get the poison secreted by the Amazonian squiddler Frog* and impregnate this in the wall around the image in some fiendish way.
Will kind of cramp the removers style when they simultaneously shat themselves copiously and throw up,.......spasm, then drop dead.
*For illustration purposes only. Amazonian Squiddler Frog may not exist. All Rights Reserved.

BONGO ONCE AGAIN RAISE QUESTION ON BANKSYART.ORG, by danvnuk on May 9, 2008 15:49:55 GMT 1, i would say that plastic films or epoxy would be a bad idea as given the renering it may actually give it more stability and therefore easier to remove intact!, unless there was some way of rigging it like a car tax disc holder that destroys it on removal,
aha - agreed, unless it was some kind of soft thin plastic, almost like a film that would be impossible to pull off in once piece, but would rip off in pieces taking a bit of the image with it.

BONGO ONCE AGAIN RAISE QUESTION ON BANKSYART.ORG, by danvnuk on May 9, 2008 14:24:16 GMT 1, how about plastic film glued to the front of the piece with glue (Liberally applied) that is transparent when dry. (no idea what this mythical glue is or if it even exists? ;D Does Superglue dry transparent?)
I'd imagine removing it would rip the stencil off with the glue making it worthless.

Blek - PartII - Le Spectacle, by danvnuk on May 9, 2008 11:00:19 GMT 1, I'll post my thoughts - and will no doubt get lynched..... ;D
I decided to go at the last minute.
Had a few beers in the Carpenters Arms down the road, and then walked over there at 6pm - to be confronted by a bit of a queue......after lining up for 45 minutes, I finally got in.
Once inside, I was confronted by another gallery length queue for books, and yet another gallery length queue for getting them signed. (Neither of which I joined)
As for the art.
I wanted to see Blek's stuff in the flesh, to be 'sold' by it......and, I hate to be negative (again) but I feel the same way about Blek's work as I do at Nick Walker's - Looks Pretty, and technically great , but none of the images challenge, poke fun, ask questions. They're just pretty images. (And not so pretty - spongebob squarepants 25 grand sold anyone?!!!)
There was also a profusion of narcissm in his work that baffled me. Blek as Elvis, Blek as Jesus in the last supper, Blek's head on a robot body. What does it say as art - apart from that Blek thinks he's great?
perhaps I'm missing some hidden depths or meaning, but I very much doubt it.
I was discussing this lack of substance or meaning with a few people at the show, and it was pointed out that Blek's art is supposed to be 'pretty' and beautify the Paris streets. In which case, the obvious conclusion is - that's where it should stay. I just don't think it works on Canvas or on Print.
On a positive note - BRP put on a great show, enjoyed the beer, seeing the usual (and not so usual) suspects and discussing the art.

Boris Wins!, by danvnuk on May 3, 2008 7:56:32 GMT 1, i did not vote as i was at the pub, very responsible i know but im pleased the nicompoop won, maybe the goddamn tubes will work every day for once...
Should of combined drinking with voting, which I did with precision timing. Get leathered after work in the City for a friends 30th, and then leave early - rush for the train, get home with 15 mins to spare before the polling booths close - get voting card - run down the road drunk - get to Polls 2 mins before they close.
It's interesting that everyone seems to think Boris is an idiot or a fool - I heard he's got the second highest IQ of any MP in Parliament (William Hague being No.1 apparently)
Personally, I feel It's about time someone else had a go - and seems like the overwhelming majority of Londoners agree. ;D

Happy St. George's Day, by danvnuk on Apr 23, 2008 12:09:57 GMT 1, To be honest, I think if more people had some pride in this country and it's past achievments - it wouldn't be in such a frigging mess today. *
Happy St Georges Day dudes.
*You can tell I'm getting old and grumpy - bugger.

banksy street art shop, by danvnuk on Apr 23, 2008 10:17:49 GMT 1, danvnuk, I walked along the southbank yesterday, GWB has been removed by the council - stairs are still there though, coke snorting copper gone, as has most of the paint that was dripped along the ground, Rat opposite parliament gone.
Which is interesting - as either he hasn't got GWB for sale at all.
or-
They were removed by that specialist company using the chemical process that had the 'Old Skool' piece on Clerkenwell Rd.
If so, presuming he has got Girl With Balloon - seeing as it was on public propety - would the council have given him permission? I'm guessing as this is London and you need a license or a permit to do anything - they must have dealt with some authority. Were they paid to allow it to be removed?
It's interesting to speculate on the transactions and nature of the discussions, between this guy and the authorities that must have taken place to arrange this.

banksy street art shop, by danvnuk on Apr 23, 2008 9:49:20 GMT 1, Obviously the whole thing is extremely distasteful and wrong.
But - what I'm wondering is - Girl with Balloon on his site -
Wasn't it on the South Bank? Surely those stairs are public property.
Did they cut the image out of the stonework? If so - isn't that criminal damage?
Anyone seen that area since the image was removed? was it cut out?

Danvnuk..., by danvnuk on Apr 21, 2008 19:52:38 GMT 1, did bloomburg ask danvnuk to use his post in there article? If someone quoted me i would hope they would... although i know they wouldn't ....but what's the legal stand point on that.......anyone???
Nope - no one asked. But I guess if you've posted your opinion on a public forum - you've more or less given tacit permission for someone to quote you.
Dmanpenfold - hello mate. "a nice Gentleman", why thank you. Not often I get called that - let me savour it ;D

Danvnuk..., by danvnuk on Apr 20, 2008 15:23:53 GMT 1, Aficionado? There's always one unintelligent loud mouth who should keep their shallow sad opinions to themself. Yes, Banksy uses simple stencils to comment on society. Nick Walker isn't in competition - he's following his passion and painting what he loves - he's in a different league mate! There's always one greedy drunken idiot who turns up to shows drinking more alcohol than they can handle because it's free. Well done! You are a true artist. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Banksy is lucky to have such a wonderful follower. Respect!
So, what your saying is - we should all blow smoke up Nick Walkers arse? It's perfectly valid to have an opinion on art - just don't dare voice it unless it's complimentary?
You sumise from my comments I'm a unintelligent, shallow loudmouth, drunken idiot. What happened to your philosophy of "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all." - or does that only apply to Nick Walker and other artists who's work you no doubt own?
Cock.
Wonder if Bloomberg will quote me on that?

What happened to your philosophy of "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all." - or does that only apply to Nick Walker and other artists who's work you no doubt own? Cock. Wonder if Bloomberg will quote me on that?

Danvnuk..., by danvnuk on Apr 20, 2008 12:37:36 GMT 1, I just realised, as Mike pointed out I'm officialy an "aficionado"
I was thinking just the same thing last night when I staggered from the taxi from the front door at 3am, momentarily pausing to request my GF retrieve the "sick bucket" from the cupboard before I chucked up all over the hall.

Danvnuk..., by danvnuk on Apr 20, 2008 12:30:04 GMT 1, Bloody hell - fame at last. Shocking - Hungover and confronted with the evidence of my spouting off.
Cheers for that Mike.

Banksy Gorilla Print Release - POW, by danvnuk on Apr 19, 2008 9:32:09 GMT 1, It's quite witty - but it's nowhere near good enough to be Banksy. Not unless he was totally leathered on cheap booze.

In My Honest Opinion, by danvnuk on Apr 18, 2008 11:22:44 GMT 1, Nice show.
Nick Walker might be a fantastic bloke who's worked his nads off for his success, and good luck to him-
But, my honest opinion on the work?
The incredible price tags were shocking when held up against the rather simplistic subject matter of the work.
It isn't challenging, there's no depth. , but compared to someone like Banksy who's work always contains some wry political humour, observation, or poking fun at the human condition, it left me quite underwhelmed.
It is - what it is, I guess. Not a verdict I'd like to make on any work that costs such large amounts of cash and generates such interest.
I was hoping to see something at the show that made me 'get' the hype surrounding Nick Walker - but, I'm left still shaking my head at the mania and wondering what all the fuss is about.
Nevertheless - nice to see the usual suspects out and about - A 3 gallery preview crawl - nice work if you can get it - and thanks to the galleries for the beers - especially TLSG with the Kirin.
Pity you couldn't make it Carlo.
