D*Face Pop Tart Print, by daveart on Jun 30, 2011 14:25:32 GMT 1, seems a reasonable price for what i consider to be the most defining images for DFace. pause.. let me think.. nope.. nothing comes close . For a DFace collector you have to have these. this might even be one of the top ten images of the whole scene(can i get a debate on that)? ha ha ..

FAILE: Decade of Prints & Originals - LA ART SHOW, by daveart on Jun 27, 2011 15:04:41 GMT 1, I ended up with the bunny girl print Sunday evening ..couldnt believe it as my max price on my bid was well below what i thought this would actually go for. Hopefully the seller completes the transaction successfully and i'll have a shiny new FAILE to add to the walls.. great pictures from the show.. i dont have 14k to spend on an original but i would have loved that big yello Dog. thats a head turner for sure.

Eine • Single Letter Canvases , by daveart on Jun 6, 2011 14:02:13 GMT 1, to follow up on Des77's point.. with word canvases going for over 5,000+ GBP now. Brings up the question .. if you wanted to have say a six letter word done as a commission - would you be better off getting six letter canvases at 350 each - 2,100 GBP ... or buying the word all on one canvas at double the price?

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by daveart on Jun 1, 2011 16:36:26 GMT 1, "How about cheap reproduction Banksy canvas from ebay? If you really like the art not just the value that should do just fine and you would have lots more cash. "
--> well yah, and if you sold a couple signed ones you would still have funds for collection of fake rolex watches and a 427 ac cobra kit car with a vw engine under the hood.. if that's your thing.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by daveart on Jun 1, 2011 14:15:06 GMT 1, lets say Banksy prices are headed for a fall. you smartly sell everything you own at the top. ok... now you have a bunch of blank walls and a pile of cash. that's fun. so eventually you realized you bought the art to begin with to fill your office/home/whatever with cool stuff. so, the question would be .. what do you buy next if you sell your Banksy prints. are you going to guy buy some cheap Ikea art to fill those walls and sit around patting yourself on the back for all the cash you made selling at the right time? yawn. your friends will tire over that story pretty quickly.. so who do you buy if you sell Banksy?

Are the Americans killing Urban Art?, by daveart on May 14, 2011 15:10:30 GMT 1, Pretty sure picasso is credited with over 50,000 works of art in his life time. Most of the urban artists discussed here have had very short careers by comparison with other artists that have reached and maintained a high visibility. picasso made art for what 70 years. Surely there are some lower quality works from every artist. quantity cant kill a movement.. Quality is what it is about and the ability to evolve and stay relevant. Banksy's poke at war in his eaRly pieces will not work in peace time. can dface have a 70 year career ? Can MBW rip off other artists for 70 years? (I hope not) ..faile and fairey seem to have the breadth Of talent to survive .. Etc

Keith Haring • Icons Series, by daveart on Mar 29, 2011 15:59:04 GMT 1, i agree with als33 - To me the icon series highlight very directly Keith's 'Icons' the foundation images for so many of his other works. dog, baby, angel, bat, etc - its his alphabet. it would be great of course if they were all signed.. but it does not diminish to me the importance of those images in the rest of his work. There is also at least one pop shop series that is unsigned by Keith but signed and released by the estate. All part of Keith's vision for what he wanted to have released. it would be very different to me if after his death they sat down and came up with some new prints... buy the dog - you won't regret it.

Keith Haring • Icons Series, by daveart on Mar 25, 2011 19:01:55 GMT 1, probably need to clarify exactly what you are looking at. As mmmike mentions there is an a print in the Icons series of the barking dog with both a red and white version. unsigned. There is also a Pop Shop IV print titled "Barking Dogs" - this is signed. but much smaller in physical size.
I am sure at a gallery in New York either of these would run $10,000- $15,000. Pop international in NYC usually has some of these as well as rogallery.com - you could confirm the gallery pricing and then go from there. maybe $5 - 7K in a private sale?

new JR print out soon. i guess, by daveart on Mar 25, 2011 14:12:13 GMT 1, I like JR's work. After watching his TED speech I am very impressed with him as an artist and a man. I wish him all the best.. My 2cents for the print makers. The prints need to be smaller - 90cm is really big and to me these would be easier to buy, frame, and hang if they were 1/2 the size. Funny opinion i guess since JR made his mark literally covering buildings with his images. .. oh and to the haters worrying about the pricing. please. stop. These guys have a right to create and sell at whatever price they desire. give your opinion nicely and move along. The negative energy earlier on in this thread is unfortunate.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by daveart on Mar 23, 2011 1:31:19 GMT 1, If you were lucky enough to buy a signed Banksy for say $500 eight years ago and it is now worth $8000 you enjoyed - four doubles in 8 years:
$500 start price $1000 #1 $2000 #2 $4000 #3 $8000 #4 Turning $500 into $8000 is not really that hard. its just that normally it takes forty years or more. (with compounding and a little rounding up for simplicity money doubles every 10 years at 7% interest). What about the next four doubles. Personally.. i find it hard to believe you ever get four more doubles out of a Banksy print.
That would be: $16,000 $32,000 $64,000 $128,000
Certainly not in the next eight years right. So the fun easy money is out of the Banksy investment game. The question if you are buying for investment is.. how many years to the next double? I would guess it will take more than 10 years and I dont expect to live long enough to see stop and search worth $128,000. so maybe you just say .. if it ever doubles again even if its 30 years.. i am ok with that because i like it. well then its just an asset plodding along at inflation rates and not really an investment.. but so be it.
The most powerful thing is compounding over a long period of time. Not many hard assets pull it off....
Future Value = Principal (1 + rate)^Years
I am sure some math geeks on here can pick this apart .. but in general i think this is pretty good measure of how to value things over a long period of time. bottom line very few hard assets double forever... money lent at an interest rate can because you can lend collect and re lend however many times you want.. which is why its better to be a bank than a borrower.
None of this means bansky is over priced today.. just that in my opinion the price is so high it will be hard for the prints to move higher at a very fast rate.
For anyone needing to figure the future value of their art collection.....

Angel Ortiz • LA2 LA II 🇺🇸 Graffiti Artist • Keith Haring , by daveart on Mar 4, 2011 15:24:09 GMT 1, Take a look at this piece.
www.phillipsdepury.com/auctions/lot-detail.aspx?sn=NY010307&search=&p=8&order=&lotnum=178
My opinion would be keith haring never touched that piece of wood. The man looks off.. the LA 2 tag is all over it, KH didnt really work in spray paint, etc, Maybe it was done in KH's studio - or with KH - but to me that's a LA2 being sold as a KH for $156,000. Doesnt take long to find other auction sales that are similar. Funny that someone says " I bought a Keith Haring for $156,000" .. but it says LA 2 all over it. ha ha.
Agree. this would be a tough legal battle for LA 2. and he isnt really in a position financially to go after KH foundation. what LA 2 needs is an art forum with 10,000 members to all send an email to Deitch and KH foundation to just ask "why cant you do a show featuring LA 2 and change some titles on pieces in museums?" pushing LA 2 during the current urban art boom could re vitalize the KH brand for another 20 years. from what i know . their answer is "LA2 was paid work for hire. End of conversation."
