"A rural Banksy turned the tables on fellow artist Damien Hirst by building a mock up of him in a formaldehyde-filled tank for cows to appreciate. The artwork was installed in a field next to Prince Charles' Highgrove estate near Tetbury by Wiltshire-based stencil artist Luke Hollingworth."

On Banksy's long silence, by Wearology on Apr 16, 2013 20:04:47 GMT 1, The rumor is that he is married with kids and lives in Los Angeles. We already know that he doesn't need the money so maybe he has retired before age 40. If he ever announces on his website that he has retired than the prices for his work on the secondary market will probably be unaffordable for 99% of us. He is already a member of the 1% club, I hope the only people that will be able to afford his work post retirement aren't the 1% as well.

I would hope though that his desire to raise ears, to say what others won't say (through art) keeps him engaged and in pursuit of new avenues to express himself. Although his art was never about the money, I'm willing to accept he doesn't need to be working to make a living anymore. But I'd hope his desire to speak his mind through street art doesn't die. That's what hooked me 7+ years ago.

On Banksy's long silence, by gravity1 on Apr 16, 2013 21:32:38 GMT 1, I had read that many artists, especially in Banksy's case, have only received a very small fraction of the benefits from their art sales since a majority of the profits were realized on the secondary markets and the stellar value increase of his earlier works and prints. I'm sure he is very well off no doubt, but in banksy's case with his very low volume of new/recent work, I wonder what he actually pulls in annually when all art changing hands is several years old or more. Seems like a catch 22.... less new work you do the higher demand and prices of your old work....and while your credibility and demand rockets your compensation declines. The true sacrifice of being in it for the art and not the $.

Because, again, it's not about the money. The guy captivated the world-- had everyone holding their breath to see what he would say next. It wasn't always comfortable. Lots of times he said things that pissed me off big time until I realized he was exactly right on. That sort of prophet, if you will, is desperately NEEDED today. (I do tend to wax romantic. Sorry if the "prophet" thing threw anyone, but that's exactly the role old time prophets played. To point out truths that no one else was saying.)

On Banksy's long silence, by Dr Plip on Apr 17, 2013 16:07:20 GMT 1, With talk of Banksy perhaps producing "VIP" prints and one-off commissioned originals, how come that in this day and age of the internet and social networking, we aren't seeing them?
You'd think these would be turning up on Lifestyles Of The Rich And Really Rich by now? People like to show off. It only takes one picture on Instagram or Twitter.
When did anyone last see a "new/previously unknown" Banksy original (non-street) piece?

Well money was only half of what I said, personally I could be bothered to deal with the hassle which grows every release of people moaning about:
they missed out.. the release method .. that stan and his 4 kids in the queue all scored.. ... plus many other things ive probably forgot

I know artists trade quite a bit of art between friends and other artists and I would imagine this is being done with Banksy as well. Would be nice to see it from time to time.

On Banksy's long silence, by Dr Plip on Apr 18, 2013 9:41:12 GMT 1, I don't see why they would swear the buyers to secrecy.
"Yes, we can sell you this exclusive Banksy print. It's $20,000 and you can't tell anyone about it. Don't go putting it on the internet either! And we can see that you obviously have money, but I don't think I need to tell you what a great investment opportunity this is. When you can finally show it to people. The contract expires in 20 years. Just sign here.."
Do you think Mrs Banksy knows he's Banksy?
"Honey, the kids want those new exclusive Nikes. And they have all of that teeth whitening coming up, so all of the other kids at school don't take the piss. Where are we going to find the money?"
"Err, I'm just off to the shed love"
"Why is it, whenever the subject of money comes up, you disappear to that bloody shed? Just what do you do in there?"
"Nothing..."
