Will Banksy ever release another print?, by Deleted on Nov 9, 2013 20:25:25 GMT 1, Who got the original then? And 15k for AP's.... So if there is a regular edition it will cost a fair bit too i guess Total edition was of 16.
The original was shown at MOCA LA in 2011, as part of the Art in the Streets show. It was a late addition to the Banksy section.

the original is much nicer than the print

£15,000 from source for a print, even if it is a very low run , is just insulting. This really seems to be sticking two fingers up at the public.

A print now estimated at £50k. Wish someone would insult me like that!

I agree that some people have made a lovely profit out if it. I wish I'd bought one !!
But the point is that it's making the print totally and utterly unavailable for a lots of Banksy fans in the first place. There must be lots of Banksy fans who were there from the beginning buying his prints for £70 who will feel totally betrayed by this.

LOL, the world doesnt work like that Ambo, why cant Hirst flog his stuff for 50 quid? or Adam Neate sell his OGs for a few hundred, Banksy isnt going to sell anything for 70 quid now period (unless its a stunt) and although hes a nice bloke hes not laying awake at night worrying about his original fans wants and needs i wouldnt think. If people want it they have to pay for it somehow.

Will Banksy ever release another print?, by hunter on Nov 10, 2013 20:43:15 GMT 1, Banksy has done more than most to issue stuff for all pockets. There have been quite a few posters over the years at £5 or £10 a pop. Probably a few Bristol Museum ones at POW still.

Will Banksy ever release another print?, by Deleted on Nov 10, 2013 20:46:59 GMT 1, Yeah I know that he's gone waaaay beyond £70 these days but £15,000 is just excessive for any artist bringing out a print......a print on a piece of paper!
I'm sure he doesn't worry about his original fans....therein lies the problem. I would just find it hard to take him seriously if he brings out a street piece all about giving it to the big corporations / governments / money men when he's flogging prints for this amount.
Edit: just to add this is not against Banksy as I would not be impressed with any street artist bringing out a print for this amount. To me it just goes against everything the whole 'street scene' was/supposed to stand for. This seems more 'corporate eye candy' than urban art.

There must be lots of Banksy fans who were there from the beginning buying his prints for £70 who will feel totally betrayed by this. When I first started collecting Banksy prints they were £35 and I couldn't now afford one of these prints but I definitely don't feel betrayed or sore in any way. I think he's a great artist and I'm very glad he's getting the recognition and reward he deserves. It's the same situation as with most of the other artists whose work I've bought over the years; I can't afford to buy their work now but I can still enjoy their work even if I can't afford to buy it to hang in my own house.

Will Banksy ever release another print?, by naughtyshorty on Nov 10, 2013 21:14:31 GMT 1, Agreed. Banksy stuff is still under mkt value and that's the main thing. I don't expect him to sell stuff for silly money any more, and even selling his normal runs for 500 I thinks bloody generous giving the true val. But even that model is getting harder to justify now giving the presence of so many flippers....

Yeah ok we can agree on this. His standard runs are still very good value for money.
I wonder what he must think when he sees his prints getting sold for so much over market value but fair play he's generally kept his prices ok.
I do not agree with this print release at all but generally he's still fair.

I think he's in an increasingly difficult situation with getting works into the hands of genuine fans etc. some interest comments by him in the voice article supporting boti re commercial success and contradictions...
Herein lies the main issue I take with it all. I'm not a dreamer in wishing he would somehow go out of his way in order to make his stuff in any way Simple for someone like me to obtain... But also, and obviously not knowing anything more than what's been stated here (either factual or opinion), I would certainly take pause at the possible (ironic) connection drawn between his statements about there not being any sale involved in BOTI, and then going on with the release of these prints - no matter what the price/edition. Sort of makes BOTI feel like it was indeed just a long infomercial for these prints, no?
Like I said, I'm still very thrilled and amazed by BOTI's sheer size, reach, depth, and attitude. Also I'll repeat again the above is merely based on the limited information posted/shared (kindly) previous to this.
Edit: if this was released in 2012 that makes this a totally different story, and me a bit of an egghead!!
