Margaret Thatcher Art, by iamzero on Apr 8, 2013 21:48:12 GMT 1, The lack of council housing was never address after selling all the ones off under her time. Why didn't labour build more instead of trying to integrate them with tax payers that bought £200,000 houses and had to live with lost cost housing right next door?
I can also name at least three red flag waving council tenants that bought their council houses, sold them for a tidy capitalist profit and went on to piss it up the wall and reapply for council houses again. We all live in the same country but some of see different sides of it first hand.

Moaning about the privatisation of things. The rail should never have been sold off but the next government did nothing to help put that right and suggested selling The Royal Mail.

Margaret Thatcher Art, by mmmike on Apr 8, 2013 22:11:03 GMT 1, Another nail hit head. Perfect. Although I could be wrong of course and I apologise to all those art collectors on here with socialist ideologies that give the profit made from their art sales directly to charities and the welfare system. I think it is great to look in the mirror and try to resolve some of the inconsistencies in our own values. We all have them. At the same time the comment aimed at socialists is a crap argument. We live in a messed up corporate welfare world, a system that most incorrectly label as capitalism. In reality it is far from it. Just because you believe there should be a change does not mean you can't participate in the society / economy that we have today. Socialism by definition isn't something you can do by yourself. The power comes from larger participation. Sure we can and should all give all your money to charities for example, but the real power comes doing it as a collective rather than just actions of few good people.
I do think I am hypocritical in many of my actions and am working to do better but none of us are Gandhi. I think we should just try to do a bit better each day.
At least I can get comfort knowing I'm not as big a hypocrite as Thatcher and the rest of the right wing nuts.

Margaret Thatcher Art, by teatwosugars on Apr 8, 2013 23:25:38 GMT 1, Bloody hell. Don't hold back aj. Tell us what you really think.
For me, I will never understand how anyone can see past the pain and suffering she caused. I completely agree with Pez, Jonny, Sean etc and fail to see how there can be any positives to her time in office. I am neither pleased nor saddened by her death. The damage was done a long time ago. Today changes nothing.
I believe the original question of this thread was whether any Thatcher art had been created. It reminded me of this paste up on the road behind the old POW offices. I must emphasise that this photo was taken around 07/08 and not today. I don't think it's particularly well executed but I thought the sentiments were interesting.

Margaret Thatcher Art, by freakinstyle on Apr 9, 2013 8:47:55 GMT 1, There must be loads more! Seems there was a lot of thatcher bashing etc. going on in cabaret/jokes/music etc. She seems to be the main figure to use for such things. Saw a puppet program or something where she was having dinner with her cabinet when a waitress asked her how she wanted to have her steak. Hilarious!
Doesn't somebody have old fashioned photos of graffiti of it? Can imagine it wasn't popular as it is now, so nobody might not have collected photos?!

Margaret Thatcher Art, by Hubble Bubble on Apr 9, 2013 11:12:15 GMT 1, I'm not sure how one equates having an opinion about something with being unintelligent, whichever side of the political divide you sit on. One can be, as Lizz so ungallantly phrases it, "a f**king Tory" or one can be, to counter-paraphrase, a "stupid Labour t**t" (not my opinion) - but surely we're all grown up enough to acknowledge that those with different political ideologies to our own often have the intellectual chops to back up their beliefs. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's those that seek to reduce discussion of politics, religion and, most importantly, football down to a simple hatred of an opposing belief and a cursory description of those that hold it as somehow intellectually inferior that display the true lack of intelligence.
Anyway, just sayin' ... let the bile fest recommence. It makes for interesting reading and you learn a huge amount about forumites on these occasions.
