A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by Coach on Jun 22, 2013 1:25:23 GMT 1, Bugger, IT skills let me down again, plus have had a few.
I think have noticed a change recently. Well, quite a few, but there are two that strike me the most.
First, there seems to be an aggresiveness creeping into this forum - not hugely so, but just an undercurrent. Or am I imagining it? I dont know. This place should be chilled.
Secondly there seems to be a new (to me) way of buying art, namely to start threads saying "I'll pay x thousand pounds for your xxx". I'm not sure if these threads are intended to push up the prices of artwork, or not, but in the past people have said what they are looking for, and left it at that - I expect prices were then discussed privatly.
Again, maybe I am imagining this - and I really have had a few tonight, so apols if I am talking rubbish - just thinking out load really!
Carry on......

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by Deleted on Jun 22, 2013 1:47:38 GMT 1, Those with an ability to converse with a shred of intellect have diminished from an already small percentage, hence questions are now being met with more aggression ... The social media age with smaller sound bites, shorter attention spans, leads to an aggressive response to challenges (in the confines of the online world, in the real world it's met with a shrug and a return to staring at a screen - this of course is a massively broad statement and does not take into account individual behaviour) it's also lead to to a pressure on everybody to be banal and nice to stop this aggression which leads to a stagnation too ... Yeah I'm fucking old but at least I'm not reminiscing

there used to be the odd person on ebay who used to sell himself Banksy prints to drive up prices, but clearly that involved paying fees for sales he never made

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by Deleted on Jun 22, 2013 13:45:29 GMT 1, A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan Uniquely British in its politeness. I admire that ability.
I think that what's happening is this forum is reflecting the undercurrent that exists in the wider world - that of the 'me, me, me' generation who consider themselves special and don't see why they should either have to wait or be denied what they want.
Having said that, I've met and dealt with plenty of people on this forum who are the exact opposite.
The f***wits are relatively easy to spot though.

Having said that, I've met and dealt with plenty of people on this forum who are the exact opposite. The f***wits are relatively easy to spot though. Yes. I've definitely felt like there's been a growing "I'm alright Jack" attitude in day to day life. Combined with the recession, I don't think it helps that the media tells people on a daily basis that politicians are fiddling expenses, companies aren't paying tax, police officers are being corrupted, lenient sentencing for serious crimes, footballers wages, adverts telling you that if you don't have this certain product, your life will be sh_t, immigrants are here to take your job, money, house, fiddle your kids, breed with your kids, blow up your kids, the average person now having to have 3 part-time jobs instead of 1 full-time job, because of the large number of jobless, employers can pick and choose now, oh and you must be flexible (why? so you can bend me over?). Adverts, adverts, adverts, newspapers telling us who we should hate this week, people seeing other people that have the talent of a walnut, making a fortune by being in front of a camera and looking pretty f_cking vacant, the media telling us how likely we are to be stabbed this week, blown up this week, sacked this week, yet hardly ever mentioning all the good things in the world, because hey, who's interested in that? You'd rather know about planes falling out of the sky than something cheerful. Anyway, that's what YT cat videos are for. People, by the by, just want to get on with their lives, but a lot of people are scared and angry. Scared of losing their jobs, homes, the print they wanted to buy this weekend, scared that someone is going to come and take something from them, and they're angry that they're seeing people, seemingly no better than themselves, getting away with corruption, fiddling, earning more than they think is fair, and they are frustrated that they see no alternative to the dreary-weary treadmill that they are already on.
A lot of people take everything as an attack now. And a lot of people concentrate on getting the sh_t that they want, and keeping the sh_t that they have. Sometimes at the expense of others.
imho

Particularly over the last few years, a lot of the things that we were brought up to believe were there for our benefit have been exposed - as a fraud, a con, as money grabbing greedy b**tards in it for their own good. And now a lot of what a lot of us believed was going on can now be proven. The corruption of the police - Hillsborough and the Murdoch press, their undercover work targeting very small protests groups; the press itself and their pursuit of the trivial and phone hacking, the relentless march of the corporations destroying local communities; the politicians lining their pockets; the failings in the NHS; state education; wars being fought for the vanity of politicians, and thousands of young active fit men being injured and reduced to taking charity money; the greed of the bankers; the state targeting the vulnerable. And worst of all? The f***ing sh*t weather!

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by alittle on Jun 22, 2013 16:29:41 GMT 1, I'm definitely guilty of #2. I did try for a long time without a public offer first though. These types of actions do end up setting price levels at that point or above for prospective sellers, even if no actual transaction occurred at that amount.

I've noticed a change in the lingo used here which can often be found on EB
However the genuine/nice members tend to stick out like a sore thumb now(wrong description), more than ever

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by cktbreaker on Jun 22, 2013 20:13:29 GMT 1, I am glad to see people making the connection between attitudes on a message board and the larger world. If we look outside to the world, the majority of people are being pinched everywhere on the globe. I know here in the U.S. what was an "American Dream" where we thought we were the best and #1 has come for many and is still coming for some, to the reallity that is just not the case. So our easy dream has become more of an idea of clinging and simply making it through, to where I don't know. The feeling that people need to cling on to what they have has created more of a drive to watch your dollars and get what you can. Often this comes through in the form of flipping and aggression on the board. Ultimately it is up to us to stop that direction. Seems that groups like the G8 would have us eat each other alive if it would transfer more money to the top. Maybe I am getting a little over the top here but I like to look at the big picture rather than get involved with mundane details that delay our progression.

Interesting post my friend.
there are a few things that I do not understand about my American cousins. This is not meant to be offensive, just incomprehensible to me.
I don't understand the US passion for it's flag. They seem to be everywhere. This sits alongside the chanting of USA that one often sees.
I am also confused by the lack of international travel by US people. I once read the statistic about how many Americans have passports, and remember it was a really low figure. Does this make American's a little insular?
Anyway, I digress. My opening post was not about this. All the Americans that I have ever met or dealt with have been just lovely.
More ramblings of a fool.....

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by Coach on Jun 22, 2013 20:38:38 GMT 1, I ought to add that I do appreciate that these perceptions (and that is all they are) may be completely off the mark, and hugely influenced by the media. I am more than happy to be educated if these perceptions are falasies.

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by thelittlesthobo on Jun 22, 2013 22:38:09 GMT 1, Quite simply we need to take a break from making babies. There is just not enough of everything to go round. The rat race nature of confinement and dwindling resources is creating a pressure pot. We all feel it.
When the world comes to an end.........................I mean when there is not enough food to go round, or there is the war to end all wars, or we reach that 'Children of Men' moment', when we watch the people around us vanish and we pick through looted shops trying to survive because we dont know how to grow our own food or filter water, we will look back on our lives and consider that there were probably better things that we could have spent our time on instead of desperately trying to buy that bloody print of the dog with the crown on its face.

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by letiss on Jun 22, 2013 23:01:07 GMT 1, Uniquely British in its politeness. Sometimes at the expense of others. imho <--- There are some spare paragraphs here, but I forgot to put them in. Yep, think I get your drift. My pet hate is bashing the NHS. This week it was the stat that Jeremy 'unt made that eight people per week die needlessly in hospitals. While this is clearly far from ideal it needs to be put it in context of 3m patients plus per week using the services. So it's all about perspective.

Couldn't agree with you any more. that one word...Perspective. It's about humility and humanity, and the very core of this is integrity.
If we all lived with integrity buying and selling art or voicing our opinions, expressing our feelings would be all good, cause when you come from a place steeped in integrity then well, you are neither right or wrong, and neither is your neighbour.
The world needs more integrity or people willing to live with it, for it.
Peace

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by Deleted on Jun 23, 2013 1:21:21 GMT 1, There is enough to go around. food ? There's a plentiful supply in the form of insects. Power ? There's renewables and we have the technology. But large multinationals in the natural resource field along with governments have long since forever delayed this. Societal attitude is manipulated into thinking we're powerless.
Just look at the austerity line we've been fed for the last 6 years and look at what this has done to the world.

A small gentle observation, that may be interpreted as a moan, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Jun 23, 2013 3:56:05 GMT 1, "Austerity" is a word we are hearing more and more each day here in Australia, the Country didn't learn. Missed the GFC due to China buying all our resources. Now the Chinese spending is slowly coming to a stop and the clueless Government spent all their surplus just as US and Europe did before they went into recession. Next few years could be interesting and could well see hard times like UK/Europe, it's already happening as the dollar is dropping like a stone, thousands of jobs going every week.
With regards to moaning... I have had a few on here regarding on line galleries, BUT the next person on here who says "just testing the water guys, I am thinking of selling my........" meaning I am a greedy c*nt and how much do you think I can get? These people should get an instant ban and a kick in the bollox.
