Sandra Chevrier, by Cocteau 101 on Aug 22, 2013 16:51:00 GMT 1, And I'm actually quite keen to know how a painting can be both 'nice aesthetically' yet 'boring' at the same time coming from the same person! How do they add up??!
Lots of things can be nice aesthetically but boring. They may have a pleasing appearance but be tedious and lightweight in concept.

Sandra Chevrier, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2013 17:22:43 GMT 1, Ok.. my last post on the subject (the forum audibly sighs).. but, one of the positives of work like this being posted here, or existing at all for that matter, is that it generates debates and ocassionally we'll google the topic to find existing thoughts on the subjects we discuss and this often opens us up to new ideas and fresh knowledge. There's obviously a ton of literature out there but the classic " KILLING US SOFTLY" documentaries provide pretty conclusive evidence about the endemic damage inflicted on young women, both mental and physical, by corporations and advertisers. If these topics interest you, then Sandra's work will too. If these topics don't, then maybe you just see pretty pictures. If, as PEGGY states, women want a world like this, then you seriously need your head examined.. or at the very least, should be taken along to an anorexic clinic once a week.
peace

Sandra Chevrier, by Deleted on Aug 22, 2013 17:59:36 GMT 1, That video confirms a lot of what people already know, it does nothing to further womens rights, perception of image, nothing!! It just replays old arguments and provides no solutions. It provides solutions, corporate, media and industry responsibility, legislated if necessary. It furthers old arguments and proposes solutions. It raises awareness amongst young girls, amongst parents with young girls and has been hugely influential these past 40 years. The video confirms what people know, because of it, not in spite of it. The series started in 79. A period when bikini clad "dolly birds" held score cards on prime time TV shows with Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson top of the bill. That video, or the series, was a major contribution to why that behaviour is no longer acceptable, much like the term Nig Nog or Paki or Gollywog.
Not sure the point you're arguing here really. You have a 15 year old girl, these must be topics that concern you, no ? Sandra's work deals with them. I think that's a good thing. I find it interesting. Cool if you don't.

Artists can't win can they? Just look at the comments on the new Watson about being a "butter" or "brown bag" face wondering why he didn't use an attractive statue/model?
