BEWARE • Fake Invader Kits, by floubi on Nov 9, 2013 23:58:20 GMT 1, Yeah I guess it makes sense that the whole thing would be fake. what would the price difference be for one without a bag versus the time and cost of faking the bag. I would never buy one without the sealed bag.... I always treated the bag as some sort of COA. Without the bag the kit is presumably fake. So price difference is about 500GBP ?
If you open the kit but keep the package (even with a hole of cigarette), price is a little lower but still high. The empty bag will still be your COA

Also Orbi told me that when the kit has been opened there is no way of telling if the kit itself is real.

Its clear you tried to make everything right to the best of your ability. Thumbs up! Cheers mate, i never meant to harm people so i hope i sorted it out with everybody. But Justdave should get all the credits. He was the one who spotted the fake and he was very relaxed while all of this was happening. He was more worried about that there would be more fakes around with fellow collectors...
Both a credit to the forum/community!
Good luck with the future family

But just to give you guys and girls a heads up on the fake kits i thought it was fair to mention it here. On a side note; i received a couple of PM's with people who are anxious about their kits and seems like we have bought from the same seller. So i do think there are more fake kits out there....

Keeping it in the bag is like keeping prints in the original tube it was sent in and never taking them out, this bag business is taking collecting too far! Enjoy the stuff, sometimes money seems to be the only reason for collecting and that is wrong.

Enjoy the stuff, sometimes money seems to be the only reason for collecting and that is wrong. What are you on about? I framed the invaders and the bag was hardly visible. I loved looking at them in their frames. I was keeping them in the bags because if i wanted to sell them i could. I was offered a couple of invaders without their bags but i passed because people warned me for fakes. I did think of getting the kits out of the bags and stick them on the wall. But as prices were crazy high (for me) i just did not dare opening them and 'devaluating' them. Even in the bags they looked smashing! And what would be the point of buying signed invader kits when you get them out of the bag?
Edit - Just for your info : I bought them for serious money and i sold them for a little more than i payed for them. I was in the position that i could get my cash back, so i did not make any big profit. I never bought art as an investment too.

BEWARE • Fake Invader Kits, by 2badmice on Nov 10, 2013 0:37:32 GMT 1, I wasn't taking about framing, I was taking about actually sticking them to the wall outside. The one's I won't do that with will stay in the original boxes they were sent out with.
But framing them in their bags seems like a good way of enjoying them, so I am cool with that and may do that myself until I either sell them or stick them to the walls of my house.

BEWARE • Fake Invader Kits, by Justdave on Nov 10, 2013 0:38:46 GMT 1, For people worried about fakes. Just hold the packaging up to a light, and if there is any raised embossing that is imprinted into the bag that does not line up with the yellow writing then I would be concerned. The one in the pic 'hypnotic Vienna' was more obvious because the bag was never dated. But the newer dated ones are harder to see as these have the yellow printed date over the embossing on the fake bag.
I hope this helps.

Or come round my place with a hammer and chisel.

BEWARE • Fake Invader Kits, by Justdave on Nov 10, 2013 0:51:13 GMT 1, IMO they are meant to be opened and enjoyed. So I have done just that. If I come to sell and get £200 less then so be it. At least I would have enjoyed them to the full extent. And the next buyer (if I ever decided to sell) can do the same.

to avoid worrying about buying fakes, i suggest we make our own fakes.
it's just tiles and glue and google image search. less than 10 dollars for a fake that looks exactly the same as an original.
no to open or not to open bag worry, no coa whatnot + a nice afternoon of handy craft fun.

Is the yellow date on the front always? Was googling images and most examples appear to be on the front, where as mine isn't - so alarm bells started ringing.
But I found a similar example here:

Are they all supposed to look like this with yellow print on front?
Will post pics of mine but was just wondering.

I would say the pic with no yellow print could be a fake. Some of the kits came with dates in yellow and some didn't. It depends what year. All bags from the same edition should be the same ie all with yellow print. But if it is dated it should match the year the kit was made, it's not the yellow writing you need to be looking for, it's if there is embossing underneath that doesn't line up with the yellow print. On the 2 kits in question both had a 2012 emboss in the bag but hypnotic Vienna was made in 2009 and never had a date on the bags anyway.

Are all bags embossed? Is the yellow date on the front always? Was googling images and most examples appear to be on the front, where as mine isn't - so alarm bells started ringing. But I found a similar example here: www.maxwellcolette.com/artist/space_invader/50286/ik_11_blue_2009/Are they all supposed to look like this with yellow print on front? Will post pics of mine but was just wondering. I would say the pic with no yellow print could be a fake. Some of the kits came with dates in yellow and some didn't. It depends what year. All bags from the same edition should be the same ie all with yellow print. But if it is dated it should match the year the kit was made, it's not the yellow writing you need to be looking for, it's if there is embossing underneath that doesn't line up with the yellow print. On the 2 kits in question both had a 2012 emboss in the bag but hypnotic Vienna was made in 2009 and never had a date on the bags anyway.
