What are the visual clues for this? the ink-jet one has slight "banding" across (from when the printer head goes forward and backwards across the sheet while it prints) and the black ink is less dense and solid than the legit instruction sheet, i'll scan both tomorrow |

Orbi/Invader can tell whether the anti-static bag, and instructions have been faked, as they have done so here. They have no way of knowing if the actual tiles have been faked - but since the bags are fakes it stands to reason that the tiles in this instance are fake too.
And the big news for me is - if you own a legit kit and break the seal, there is no way of Orbi, Invader or anyone proving the tiles are legit or have been swapped with replicas. Plus they apparently do not keep records of who buys the kits so can't verify/authenticate addresses etc.
So - if you have bought any IKs and opened them to frame/display etc, they are effectively worth bugger all as no-one can prove whether the tiles are legit or not! If you've bought any IKs and left them sealed in a drawer or whatever then you're ok, although I'm not sure what "investment potential" they will now have since no-one can do anything with them..!
All well and good if you're selling them as a bit of fun at โฌ100 or whatever, and people know what they are letting themselves in for. But to charge โฌ750 for a piece of editioned art, clearly encourage the buyer to open the packaging and display the art via the instructions sheet, but fail to inform the buyer that by doing so you are effectively throwing your money down the drain, is in my opinion a complete joke. I love Invader and always viewed IKs as a great and reasonably affordable substitute for an alias. I preferred the idea of having half a dozen or so IKs dotted around the house rather than 1 small alias, and have never seen the point in buying something to stick in a drawer without opening it. I'm feeling pretty let down right now!

I think when you have the original bag and invader receipt it will be no problem to prove it is original. But Orbi/Invader do not keep records of the sold kits. If they did this mess would not be a mess 
But you can't be surprised that the invader kits themselves are easy to fake...

And when the kit has been taken out of it's original bag he could not tell if the kit itself was original." Hope your kit is fine mate. Until now the gallery thinks that they sold 5 fake kits (Vienna and the Tokyo kits). And pipes there has some questions about his Kit #11 - Blue. But he is not sure if it is fake too.
The gallery does now the name of the guy who is been faking the kits. The gallery will check the kits and then takes action. I do hope they will press charges. And i also think Orbi is pressing charges.

I have 3 kits that are removed from the packaging and are framed on my wall. But I have kept the packets intact and you can clearly see they are genuine against a fake one. Invader is only saying that he can not guarantee that the tiles are genuine if taken out of the bag, but if the tiles are with a genuine bag then that is where the cost is in insuring they are genuine. Why take out genuine tiles and replace with fakes ones, that would make your genuine ones worthless anyway without the bag. If you have real ones I don't think it's an issue, as long as you know what your looking for.

This. We saw a lot of space invaders (real and fake too!) in their "natural surroundings" when we were in Paris. I considered to get an invader piece to remember that trip. But it was so obvious that there must be a lot of fakes that the risk was just too big to justify the amount of money they usually go for. I might try my luck to buy one when there's an official release again but I refuse to buy these on the secondary market. I'd rather go to home depot and have a good time with my son creating our own "pixel pics" (that's what he called the pieces you can find all over Paris) than being hornswoggled in the internet.

No it still worth a lot of money, but for some people worth less than when it was in the bag. And other people wouldn't even want to buy the kit when it's out of the bag. And some people wouldn't even buy a kit when it's in a sealed bag but they would only buy from source. Others would even pay more when it has a nice frame and you got the bag and receipt. So to round it up.... I think it's worth about the same as what you payed for it.... Edit : Could we focus back on the fake invaders who could be out there? |

Was bought from a gallery in US - so if it proves to be fake (and it could be inconclusive) I will let you know.
On a positive note - the numbering appears to be very similar handwriting on both of my kits - well assuming thats positive !
