There laughing at the fact that it's a fake pretty obvious I would have thought. Got nothing to do with what people can or cannot afford. You can buy a nice original piece for the price of one of these. Put it n your wall etc.

Then go to Viva's thread obscure Banksy's or Banksy's website and pick your favorite picture then either print the picture off yourself or take to a photo shop and get them to do it .....have it done to a nice size put it in a frame and put it on the wall.

Cheap cheerful fantastic images and no where near 6k.

I honestly wouldn't buy half the crap I see on here,some of it, hilariously to me, costing a small fortune, but would never belittle or take an elitist tone against someone who liked something enough to part ways with their do$h.
I know , I know...its the Internet, where everybody seemingly says whatever they like to whomever and often in a patronising or snobby tone, but it really pisses me off and I see its happening more and more, to the detriment of this otherwise fave site of mine.

These are not some copy-shop reproductions they are screenprinted and everything - I'm sure plenty of people are putting them on the wall and pretend they are real

It's not about the image it's about having a banksy - I'm sure more than one person scribbled a little signature on it

what i don't like is people on high horses sniggering, tut-tutting, "laughing quietly" at people buying fakes.

street art is meant for all. especially Banksy's. and if an original screenprint costs way too much, having a fake on the wall is totally fine. your home will look just as nice. and you'll feel just as good.

that said i own both fakes and original banksys. the images bring me pleasure, not the authenticity. (that said, i know the real thing will bring me back some money, but the cheapies are soooo cheap, they're worth every penny anyway)

I'm a watch collector / trader and in the trade the term hommage is very merky waters but I would say wcp is putting these out as such.

A fake is something put out that looks real and badged up like the real thing ,a hommage however is a tribute piece to the original and usually comes under a different name . I have a blancpain hommage purely because it's my fav watch and I know il never afford 20k for the original but it's made by a reputable british watchmaker and has his name on it not blancpains.

From what I understand wcp doesn't use banksys name on his prints just his own twist on it . It is confusing and I'm probably not helping . Personally I think Wal-Mart banging out Eelus copys or those pop up stands in shopping arcades selling fake copys those artists could do with the money where as banksy does ok I reckon .

i was trying to argue that it's ok to own fake. especially a banksy fake. banksy is as "open-source" as art gets. the best kind. so owning a fake is totally ok. as long as no one is cheated. no shame in that. maybe even pride.

Unfortunately not. I have a real Omega, a Quiksilver wallet and my nephew is only four and knows that both my wallet and watch are real. Like most people who look at the pretty pictures on my wall he may have heard of banksy but would not be able to tell a banksy from and Eelus or a dface never mind tell the difference between a real banksy or a copy. Why do they not know? Because most people off of this forum do not give a toss about banksy and most do not even know he sold prints in addition to vandalising and making the streets in downtown areas more interesting.
