OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by bolx on Feb 13, 2014 16:31:22 GMT 1, Valuable if you are in for a quick flip but as people slowly realise it was never anything to do with banksy or any other credible artist the arse will fall out of it pretty quick
If you love it keep it - if you bought it to flip i'd be quick

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by graffuturism on Feb 13, 2014 20:17:22 GMT 1, Now that us haters have all had our say and the others who bought the print have had theirs. Lets talk about the artist, what is the advantage of changing your name for a print release other than for marketing. Maybe the veal will be lifted when people get their prints who is really behind the print but what is the point after the fact, unless it really is a Banksy of course as I am sure many are crossing their fingers that bought it just in case. It is obvious this Outis artist has a tremendous amount of experience creating not only an image on the street but also translating it to print in a proficient way. So that would mean leaving all the work he had done as another artist name to suddenly be someone else, I dont see the longterm benefit in this. A marketing stunt great but if you are as talented as this at copying banksy in every way it would seem then why the slight of hand, why not own it and be who he already was.
Also what is GP's exit strategy after this, I dont believe them when they say they know nothing about the artist and liked the image. I think they knew alot about the artist and the marketing yet weighed the options and pushed forward knowing that in the end there would be some positive coming about it. I think the final story is yet to be told and the truth will come out, GP seems like a stand up company and might be holding there tongue until everything is revealed. I guess I hope for the best but who knows good luck to everyone that bought one and GP restoring their image if this in fact only a marketing stunt.

It's blindingly obvious that it's not Banksy! Why do people keep saying it might be?

It's blindingly obvious that it's not Banksy! Why do people keep saying it might be? I am saying it because of the .01% chance as was stated by the printer as well as the general comments on the thread, I dont know an original banksy from a original Dolk or whoever paints in a similar style. Im not the expert here just asking the question as what would be an artists long term reasoning behind changing their name for a print release.

more than likely, i know for sure plenty of people buy banksys because they want to say they own a banksy, but thats across the board in art and society in general. Totally agree with prescription, no chance its a banksy, the image has nothing of substance, it's twee at best, its an "awe thats nice" sort of image, saying that we all like different things which is just as well or it would very boring

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by bmerel on Feb 13, 2014 21:00:07 GMT 1, It's blindingly obvious that it's not Banksy! Why do people keep saying it might be? My question is, if an image is widely panned before people know who it is by, does their opinion change simply by revealing the true identity of the artist? I think the answer to that question is absolutely YES. Whether its voices clamoring to shout their approval or further distaste for the piece, it does happen to hinge on who the artist "really is".
In all honesty, the elements that have been pulled together in order for this to happen is undeniably clever…VERY CLEVER. Lets look at the pieces..
-creates a Facebook page in October to follow BOTI -rounds up 15K + followers on that page by posting all updates -waits for Banksy official website to be "down" for whatever reason -posts pics of upcoming print on Facebook page with slogan "if you took away the brand name, what would you have left?" -meanwhile, they have created the artist Outis, which by definition "is an often used pseudonym. Artists, writers and others in public life use this pseudonym in order to hide their identity." -Outis creates a piece of art that may have been offered to other printing companies with the agreement that the company knows nothing, other than where its shipping, payment and thats it (?) GA takes it on because they like it. - the work looks to be very fine tuned and clever (subjective) -meanwhile, they create ANOTHER Facebook and website page for Outis, which nobody knows anything about…again -They remove the pic/link from Banksyny Facebook page and sit back while the print sells out
So, whatever the hell this is, its EXTREMELY well thought out, planned and executed. My hats off to this new artist Outis or whoever the hell they really are. Thats an absurd amount of work/planning to go into a piece. I for one, love the fuckin image and can't wait to see em in person. THATS why i bought it…all this research came about afterwards. Its kind of fun, to be honest!

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by wompa on Feb 13, 2014 21:07:01 GMT 1, I hope you're taking notes Brian Merel!
Shame on GP for intentionally misleading folks and using Banksy's mystique to build hype surrounding this release. Pretty brilliant way to play on the Banksy NY street popup shop selling originals - people are still hurting from missing out on that, what better way to hock a bunch of no-name stencil art than to make people think they've gotten a second chance at purchasing a mystery Banksy on the cheap?
Between this and the Os Gemeos release, starting to lose faith in the art world - just do something with some damn SUBSTANCE!
