Signed print runs are meant to reach fans that cannot afford originals.i think this pricing is a mistake and short sighted.many young fans will just ignore drops and look elsewhere from now on. In a way hopefully only a true fan will buy a print at 2 or 3k because the quick return on investment would be gone. Don't get me wrong, they will appreciate in value over time, but this takes tat initial spike away. I kind of hope that higher prices will do away with flippjng snd not being abke to get something 60 seconds after a drop. |

I disagree with both of you. In a friendly way, mind you. KAWS has been doing his thing since the late 90's - that's over 15 years - and has moved up in the art world to proper gallery representation and museum shows, of which he's had a few. For where his career is at right now the price is probably a bargain.
I bought my KAWS print (yellow Spongebob) for $800 in 2010. Earlier ones I liked were much cheaper at the time of their release. His prices have risen steadily, not overnight.
Whether one likes him or not he's had the real deal movement from the streets to acceptance in what is considered to be the proper art world, of which most other artists talked about here have not / probably will not.
And of course if one compared the price, for example, to the most recent Mr Brainwash it is a relative bargain.
