Whatson, by .dappy on Oct 12, 2014 0:18:13 GMT 1, For that price, you could've got the 3 piece set (Zebra, Toucan and the Chameleon) all 60cm x 60cm on metal panel at the group show couple months back. Please, please, please somebody tell me what is so special about metal and art prints as i have no clue?! i usually leave metal pricing to the scrap man. ... the base that you paint onto makes a difference to the line and texture and 'luminance' of the painted piece. The black of my ER is stark and solid when compared to the black on a paper piece. I am not sure that you can see from a photo - but it just is.
Bast and Faile take paper and more often than not paint over the paper completely before painting/screen printing a piece on top. It changes the medium and what you see as the final piece.

Whatson, by thomasmer on Oct 12, 2014 10:36:42 GMT 1, Rushmore, he's trying to sound like a proper critic, yawn.
As much as I'm not a great lover of Whatson or Dots work, I have followed Martins work since way before the Banksy phenomenon and the insanity that the art market brought with it, Martin was one of the most meticulous and skilled stencil artists out there, only really bettered by Logan Hicks and that guy who painted the Spaceman dogs, that was 10 years ago. For me, Martin did it for love and never money, his heart was in it for the right reasons, unlike a great many bandwagon artists out there.
I don't own any work by either of them, but they don't deserve the wanker criticism thrown upon them by someone who hasn't lived and been part of the scene.
As for Nuart, Martin curates a great show that takes more work than I could imagine, I'd ditch that muppet next year, and hear him cry.

You can say "hey it's not broke don't fix it!" while I'll say "If it's not new and refreshing with both form and function what is the point?"

When was that? I'm not 100% sure but I remember seeing his work but under the name CTRL and Banksy editions and originals were still easily available at POW for cost, actually, POW were selling Banksy's on ebay for under cost at that time.
Boxi, that was the Spaceman dog guy, back then there was no one cutting stencils as good as those three.

While I'm not fond of his work, I'd like to see the members on here shouting and moaning about it try to create stencil work similar to his quality.

Very true. I guess it's easy for certain keyboard warriors to slag off others even though they've achieved very little themselves. There's no problem criticising artists (I don't like the new Nick Walker print and I said so) but when it comes down to people just being insulting that probably says more about them as people than the artist.

I have to agree with this. I have chosen to not insult any artist on this forum and, will continue to do so.

I am offering a framed print plus ยฃ50 or a jailbirds print plus ยฃ75 for a one small step print. Uk based people highly preferred. can be done in person if you are in London.

Why on earth would two stencil artists cease working & give up their careers on the back of a bunch of negative comments in this thread?

Tastes change, that's completely understandable. This place is full of art fans, maybe explore what's changed in your tastes and come up with some constructive criticism. People appreciate that sort of input. To say an artist is 'shit' etc because your tastes have changed is somewhat shortsighted.
