Zoom in, you can see it has stenciled and then another layer of (spray)paint.

Apparently, when it hits the dutch newspaper it really does mean something ;-)

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by Emile on Oct 21, 2014 21:09:12 GMT 1, I usually dislike the use of fire extinguishers in street art (or maybe I should say graffiti - as it is quite often used to simply deface a building in a few seconds), but I must say this is an excellent use.
That said, a little too much around the mouth. Otherwise, A+ for a very nice piece.

Agree. My daily commute on the train I just see crap 50ft names thrown up on a lot of buildings. Here is a nice piece done a few years back :

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by Rouen Cathedral on Oct 22, 2014 0:14:56 GMT 1, At first look I think it's a great piece. Upon second look and a little thought I just find it a little off.
I think the subject is great. The location creative and interesting. But it doesn't seem like a banksy. I see others saying 'he's showing he's an evolving artist blah blah" but at close look the stencil seems pretty blah. The scale is great the location is good the 'correctness' oksy but the detail seems off.
Don't get me wrong. It's a nice image and I like it. It just doesn't seem like a banksy and I think that is more of a negative then how some are trying to play it as a positive.

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by Dr Plip on Oct 22, 2014 0:26:39 GMT 1, It doesn't need to seem like a Banksy though. I get what you're saying, but just flicking through Wall and Piece, there are loads of images in there that vary wildly. They nearly all have great placement and humour about them. No one style though.
His BOTI show featured a lovely array of work. Some of which, if he hadn't outed them, we'd never have guessed they were by him. That's fine though. In fact, that's great in my opinion.
I actually like the detail on this one. There's a thing that he does on some of his stencils, where he kinda hacks at the lines. So the detail is jagged and not solid (if that makes sense?) I really like that.
Like the figures on Napalm.
It's late, I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by Deleted on Oct 22, 2014 0:32:03 GMT 1, I'd advise people to flick through wall and peace and banksys Bristol, then look at better out than in, the Bristol museum show, the film ... Then reappraise banksys style ... Possibly concluding it's more than a specific stencil but actually a range of mediums and messages
That will however take thought

don't know why the video plays through twice though? because the piece is twice as nice?

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by Rouen Cathedral on Oct 22, 2014 0:54:29 GMT 1, I can see what you are saying. I agree banksy has done a lot of different things in different mediums and in different styles. Not all of them are as successful or as 'good' though.
After a more detailed look I think this falls into that category. The actual image (verneers girl) kind of distracts at first view cause its so stunning but after looking at it more closely I think it falls short of his other great works.
It just seems like a work tht many other street artists might do. For all we know the next banksy con is claiming others work to mess with the perception of what is seen as great street art. Ironically maybe he's already doing this with brainwash haha.

Banksy Girl With the Pierced Eardrum, by Deleted on Oct 22, 2014 1:04:55 GMT 1, Appreciate the considered response, I feel sometimes it's important to remember that this medium allows for differing layers of meaning - everything doesn't have to be a thesis on existence to work- but some thought into placement and an underlying idea can be enough.
I enjoy this piece from the glib wink of the lack of knowledge about both artists and the fact it must have taken no lack of skill to produce.
At the end of the day it's a street piece, it's meant to buffed, tagged and disappear to only be appreciated online and in photos down the line. If it provokes a discussion and a smile in it's lifespan on the street it's probably done enough. Finally on a getting up note banksy continues to shame numerous street artists who do fuck all to even be considered in that category these days.

I think the video plays twice because it was lifted from the Daily Mail website. If you alter the length or content, it confuses the Sentinels that search YT for borrowed footage. Or so I've been told.
I wouldn't normally link to a Daily Mail video, but this was nicked.

True true my main critique of so many artists here, is how little they change or innovate, I'm in awe of the ideas that banksy continues to present. The enormity of better out than in still continues to impress me to this day.
