I see you've trademarked Dr.Plip so i took the liberty of buying the domain names, www.Dr.Plip.com & www.Dr.Plip.co.uk, if you are unfortunate enough to be hyped and advertised give me a shout and we can work on a few products....Dr.Plip baked beans has a ring to it.... But I think real is actually measurable...let's use Jose Parla, who was real and from the streets and has had his career grow steadily. Not really much hype on him here - some like him and think he's great. others never mention him. He's working on a huge piece currently at One World Trade Ctr.

KAWS - from phone and bus stops and tagging to toys to prints to galleries and now museums - real.
Mind you this is as to judging "talent" versus hype in relation to reality.
Many on your list are more in the mode of poster makers / graphic designers.

True, but I find as I move out into the masses the artists they know are less ands less...and of course there are artists like Marcel Dzama that you mention here and it is as if the mic isn't on.
