Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by irl1 on Jun 19, 2020 17:53:50 GMT 1, Starting to make less sense to sell certain prints at auction, for most of these lots I think the seller would have got more money selling privately especially if they are paying seller fees to the auction house. I'm aware a couple these had come condition issues but I went through the reports and I still think the sellers would have done better selling collector to collector. The only auction results I have seen that really made sense for the sellers recently is the Sothebys sale a few months back. Agreed. I’m not sure I’d have any interest in consigning to an auction at the moment. I would have taken home less £23k for my RC in this auction when I’ve turned down £28k privately. Plus not sure I could stomach watching my print get sold for a disappointing amount. At least you know where you stand with private deals. Bonhams never counted when it came to selling Banksy works, its been like that for years, but always a good place to pick one up
Sotheby's are way ahead.

Makes sense his looking to buy Banksy atm with that post .. Nice try To you and the others who clearly didn't read my above post were I said: "forgot to mention these were just hammer prices" and thanked the other forum member for clarification. So simmer down there..... and troll elsewhere.

Both really low editions too

Buy at Bonhams and sell at Sotheby’s. Generally seems to be a pattern of lower results coming out of Bonhams and higher coming from Sotherbys. It does concern me about the U/S market once we reach the final quarter of the financial year and the recession is in full affect, I do envisage more and more Signed prints coming to market. I’m obviously hoping prices continue to hold up. The U/S GWB really surprised me especially considering it has quite a few creases and a black stain. Yeah it can be framed out but that’s a massive chunk to spend on a print which you could probably find for £80-£90k. I was offered one for £40k about 18 months ago and sat on it for about 3 days after which it time it had sold!

Stacks of the cheap/free money sloshing round is finding it’s way into fine art, it’s a great portable way to make wealth vanish.

I see unsigned prices for more desirable prints overtaking the prices for the signed less desirable, its already happened with a few. This is probably how it should be, people should buy the art they really like and not worry about the signature. (Its still fucking insane how expensive it all is tho).
