Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by irl1 on Mar 27, 2019 22:33:12 GMT 1, My calculation is this........... Sale price £64'000 +25% buyers premium £16'000 = £80'000. Vat of 20% on £16'000 = £3200 Total £83'200 = close enough So the seller gets 64,000 less fees.
Noting wrong with that return for the length of time they had it

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by Deleted on Mar 28, 2019 12:20:45 GMT 1, You are not adding 30% plus 10% plus VAT, are you? Sellers don't get charged the buyer's fees, do they? since when is the minus sign adding ? Manty is talking about how much cash the seller ends up with. He seems to be taking the hammer price then taking away the buyers premium. Or am I misreading it?

He seems to be taking the hammer price then taking away the buyers premium. Or am I misreading it? there was no hammer but the £83k does say that it included premium.
If that is the case, then the actual sale price would be £83k minus buyers fees, say 30%, then the seller has to pay his sellers fees on that actual sale price, say 10%, and that would be roughly what the seller took home give or take VAT on fees and any tax that may be incurred for the profit, always assuming he had any profit.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by Unica on Mar 28, 2019 14:19:20 GMT 1, Seems odd that they can update the auction with a price after it didn't sell on the night, but I don't know much about the auction game and how after sales get recorded. Either way pretty disappointing result I for Hook owners, a far cry from the £250k+ people were predicting. I'm not surprised though, difficult piece to display.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by billybob1969 on Jun 7, 2020 18:59:35 GMT 1, I enquired about one of the Banksy pieces, and got this back... “The print has been authenticated by Pest Control. There is currently a delay in the production of certificates as Pest Control are redesigning them, as soon as they become available we shall send them out to the future buyer of this lot.“ I was suspicious of their wording “the COA will be sent in due course” - am I overanalysing? Or should I be weary? Thanks It’s Bonhams so I’d be more than happy with that. They guarantee authorship so if it’s a fake you get a refund.

Some people get carried away in the auction house. Just watched two Bambi prints sell for over £1200 and £1600 respectively inc buyers premium. A quick google search finds the same two available for sale at between £350-£450 each. Why you would want a bambi anyway is beyond me.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by Deleted on Jun 19, 2020 16:10:45 GMT 1, Fair play again to the guy who set this up: www.banksy-value.com/index.php
The majority of the prints (Soup Can, Flying Copper, Rude Copper, Queen Vic etc) ended up selling pretty damn close to the print value automatically attributed to them on there once premiums are taken into account.
A really useful (although not perfect) tool for estimating values of prints. Top work.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by LJCal on Jun 19, 2020 17:01:09 GMT 1, Starting to make less sense to sell certain prints at auction, for most of these lots I think the seller would have got more money selling privately especially if they are paying seller fees to the auction house. I'm aware a couple these had come condition issues but I went through the reports and I still think the sellers would have done better selling collector to collector. The only auction results I have seen that really made sense for the sellers recently is the Sothebys sale a few months back.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by Deleted on Jun 19, 2020 17:47:30 GMT 1, Starting to make less sense to sell certain prints at auction, for most of these lots I think the seller would have got more money selling privately especially if they are paying seller fees to the auction house. I'm aware a couple these had come condition issues but I went through the reports and I still think the sellers would have done better selling collector to collector. The only auction results I have seen that really made sense for the sellers recently is the Sothebys sale a few months back.
Agreed. I’m not sure I’d have any interest in consigning to an auction at the moment. I would have taken home less £23k for my RC in this auction when I’ve turned down £28k privately. Plus not sure I could stomach watching my print get sold for a disappointing amount. At least you know where you stand with private deals.
