Stik Sleeping Baby, by davievegas on Sept 8, 2015 22:59:12 GMT 1, Who pissed in your cheerios Davie? You come off agitated.... Fare enough. Maybe I am coming off agitated or yet maybe I am coming off sane. The fact that I DO NOT understand why this guy is praised for stick figure art is maybe the reason for this response. Can someone who does NOT collect this guys work tell me the obsession and paying these prices for his art? I would love to know WHY its so appealing other then it is "Kid friendly". If Stik's work did not have such a investment value would anyone hang this on there walls? I cant tell you how many times I have heard "His work looks great in my kids room on this forum. I am very interested in the other outlook. Truly am.

I see nothing appealing in his work as well. My best friend collects him though. Everyone has there own preferences when it comes to things they buy. I personally do not care for Rae's work either but I was told celebs like Jay Z love him. To each there own. For communication sake neither Bast or Rae or anyone else I can think could have the same argument as to what is art when it comes to stik's stick figures.
I guess you can say pasting cut up images is as much hard work as drawing a stick figure. So ya, I guess some artists would be in the same topic imo.
Here is my gripe. As an artist DO NOT make stick figures or paste cut up images of random crap and say OMG I invented this. OR do not say I am the first to mash up pasted images. I am the first to do this. NO, your not. I learned to mash up pasted images in 3rd grade. Never thought to call it art. I would rather artist say "I just like stick figures and I see my kids drawing them everyday, so I decided to make them and sell them". That is a understandable response.

I only collect things I truly like. His best image to date imo Nick Walker - ,
Banksy(If they were reasonably priced), Roamcouch, brian viveros etc and some artists that no one knows because they make things out of broken vinyl records etc. Basically things that take tons of time to make and are worth me spending money on because the artists took tons of time to make it and I either liked it or loved it. I really am interested in this discussion on sticks appeal and why. This wasn't for argumentive purposes only.

Personally simple is more effective. The bare elements and the personality injected in a simple form is the winner here. Less is more and the simplest things are the hardest to design.
Youtube 'designing the stop sign' then you will get what im saying.

Stik Sleeping Baby, by Dibbs 45 on Sept 8, 2015 23:49:40 GMT 1, Found something Stik did for me on a show card. The point with Stik is the whole package of what Stik represents. Stik was Homeless and striped bare of necessary essentials to live. His six lines represent what it is like to be on the fringe of society etc. He has never forgot this and this is why he has worked with The Big Issue, spoke to TRAs (Tenants Residences associations) for his large mural in Queensbridge Road, and moreover pushed the affordable housing issue, reflected in his large mural in Acton, and now the NHS trust. His art doesn't have the Chiaroscuro of say Carravagio or the painterly style of Constable, and this is why some people don't get it. A stripped down symbol of the disenfranchised if you like. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is just mine. People like their art in different ways. Incidentally this show card was John Dolans show. Another homeless male with a talent for drawing the environment he lives in, and is still drawing on the street.

Stik Sleeping Baby, by t3c on Sept 9, 2015 10:44:22 GMT 1, YAAAAAAA! Lets all stay overnight for a stick figure that any non artist can do!!!! This artist is laughing his ass off to the bank. You all have been punk'd like the MTV show. Ever been to London or seen any of Stik's work in person? If you did maybe you might have a different view as a lot of it has a message relating to it's surrounding. I'm not aware either of any artist that does more for charity. Maybe Swoon?? But nevertheless Stik is yet again doing a release that will be 100% to benefit the local community, so he's hardly laughing to the bank and even if he has made a few quid it's thoroughly deserved. Never seen Punk'd (sic) but if it's MTV it's probably a load of... I had the same argument with some donut on EB a few months back, it was completely futile trying to get him to understand

Stik Sleeping Baby, by cmodart on Sept 10, 2015 4:24:23 GMT 1, If any 'non' artist can do it, then why didn't they. easy to say after seeing it. any non artist can do anything if they see it somewhere else. and i can tell you for sure his arse is laughing no where near a bank. He has stayed grounded. What are you talking about? Do you have kids? Kids have been doing this for ages. Better question would be "Did someone who is calling themselves a serious "artist" actually dupe people into buying this". Like I said in another thread, this must be something Europeans are into like "Norwegians are into Whatson" because this is done millions times a day in schools from children all over the world. No one in there right mind would call this art and try to sell it here in the US. The term "Starving artist" would be applied to this type artist who makes this type of art. I think this might do well in swap meets here in the US. AND YES, he is laughing his ass to the bank for selling "artwork" that children do on a daily basis and charging retarded prices for something that has no future value. The fact that the printing process takes longer then the actual art work is scary to say the least. You think his art has future value? How can his artistic ability progress if all he does is a stick figure either sleeping or standing. Maybe he adds more then one stick figure? WHOA watch out. The guy is def on his way to being one of the greats. the only thing more pitiful than this myopic drivel is using "retarded" as slang like a 4th grader. Cheers to stik for trying to raise 50,000 GBP for a good cause. Maybe next time he can raise money to provide proper art education for all us knuckle dragging Neanderthals

Stik Sleeping Baby, by hackenbush on Sept 10, 2015 17:44:31 GMT 1, I don't think it is just a London thing, just that you are basically only going to see most of Stik's work there. I personally don't think his work translates well into print versions, and I couldn't see a print on a living room wall. I think that's why they put them in the kid's bedrooms. The phrase 'my kid could do that' means nothing to people who appreciate art, and is a lame put down from people who don't know any better. And I am not pointing the finger at anyone in particular. I must admit I am often surprised by the individual tastes of some people on here. But it's their money and they can do what they like with it.

Stik Sleeping Baby, by aa on Sept 10, 2015 19:45:55 GMT 1, For what it's worth, I think his popularity and therefore prices, are due to the fact that he appeals to such a wide audience.
I have several more valuable originals by different urban artists in my house, yet the piece that gets most attention from visitors is invariably a ยฃ10 Don't Panic poster in a cheap plastic frame.
Added to that he's had a lot of publicity in papers, The Big Issue and now the BBC, I think his appeal goes a lot further than most of the other artists discussed here.

A few direct messages on Ebay or a simple wanted post on the forum and I imagine you'll secure one from one of London's finest art appreciators for around 750 GBP.
