Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by pokodogo on Mar 22, 2016 8:54:08 GMT 1, I don't think you can roll these up in a tube can you.
No idea if u can't the logistics to get from source to buyers is a potential nightmare.....
On another note .... Can someone tell me....
What's the difference between the 3D edition and the 3D changing Rain addition... The price is the same the edition size is the same... I know it says changing rain but I thought there would be a price difference between the two (the former been slightly cheaper?)

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by Wilson on Mar 22, 2016 9:57:49 GMT 1, If you didn't have the benefit of knowing that the original NEISBAW was sought after and costly would you bang out ยฃ1k on its artistic merits alone.
If the original had been costed at ยฃ1k no one would have pulled the trigger.
If Eelus had set an entry level ยฃ195 on these new ones it would have damaged the existing values even more.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by Wilson on Mar 22, 2016 11:14:27 GMT 1, The market value of the original is what it is. What I'm saying is that the price point of the new edition has been set high based on the success of the original. Now you could say he set it high to ensure that the original wasn't devalued but much more likely that it was to ensure a good payday. Hiding behind the excuse that this somehow a new and improved edition. Having said that, the masses will want it and will pay for it. The original is well beyond many fans pockets. The original owners can take the "ah but it's not the original" stance.

I think these will sell well.
It will be very much like marmite though, people will either refer to them as glorified cereal boxes or they'll think they are very, very cool.

The big question yet to be answered is whether the lenticular edition will satisfy the fan who has long searched for the original edition. If it does then there will be less people looking for the original. Human nature is funny when it comes to things like this, even after bagging the new release will it bother you that it is still not the original (or not)?? It is these behaviours which will ultimately determine the value of the original. Personally even if posterbob ups his offer to ยฃ750 I will not sell it ..

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by Larry David on Mar 22, 2016 13:21:51 GMT 1, Interesting this one, I own the original and bought it as I loved the image and it sits nicely with the other two. The 3D will not imo work as well if displayed with ATR and WTNFU, here I guess is his get out clause 'first in a series' ............... The guy has to eat but again imo piss poor from an artist to re release his most famous image. Hats off to John Doe on that score, despite several requests , including myself he wont touch another Miss Universe at all.

Just to clarify - it's piss poor form when you don't want them to do it, it's ok when you do?

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by warsaw project on Mar 22, 2016 14:19:53 GMT 1, There's a reply to this up on Eelus Facebook page. Have to kind of agree with him, but then i dont an original edition so maybe id feel differently if that was the case...
I've been away on a top secret mission in an undisclosed part of the world for the past week, and have returned to all kinds of emails and feedback about the decision to release a second version of Not Everything Is So Black & White.
To try and answer some of your questions and give you some insight into this decision, I'll paste a reply I've just sent to one such email:
I'd wondered for a long time what NEISBW would look like as a lenticular 3D but the high production costs prevented me from exploring the idea. I was then approached by Art Republic who asked if I'd be interested in producing a series of lenticular works with them picking up the bill for production.
So to start things off and for me to get my head around the process of the medium, which is something completely new to me, it seemed the perfect opportunity to experiment with NEISBW and finally satisfy my curiosity. We were originally only going to produce around 10 and sell them privately without making too much of a fuss. The whole reason for this first step was to literally test the medium and discover how things work, but once I got the proofs back I was so blown away by the quality I thought it would be a huge shame to keep the edition so exclusive.
I know there are many many collectors out there desperate to get their hands on one of the original prints but can't due to the high secondary market costs. This gives them the opportunity to pick up an official version at a more affordable price.
At the end of the day, after doing this for the last 10+ years I've learned that you can never please everyone, and whatever you do there'll always be a handful of angry and upset people for one reason or another, no matter how honest and sincere your actions are. So I just like to please myself and do what I feel is right for me to satisfy my own creative curiosity.
We could have released 10, sold them privately and quietly to then be criticised by the many upset people who would have loved to pick one up, or we release a higher edition to allow more people to finally get their hands on a copy and still be criticised by people who only see the original edition as a financial investment and are worried about losing money.
I personally feel that re-releasing the image in a brand new medium with slightly tweaked artwork shouldn't effect the current secondary market of the original edition. And I also feel that any artist should be allowed to re-visit older works when new mediums and technologies become available to them without falling under such dramatic criticism. It's their right, as the owners and creators of the artwork to be able to explore whatever they feel necessary.
We won't be releasing ATR or WTNFU in the same medium as I'm not interested in seeing them produced in 3D. There's one more classic image that I've always thought would work well as a moving lenticular, and I might explore that down the line, other than that, all future lenticular and 3D releases will be completely new designs.
I hope that clears things up but please get back to me if you have any more questions. I don't personally feel I need to justify any of my decisions but for the most part I'm happy to have an open dialogue with the people genuinely interested in collecting my work.
Thanks again.
E.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by twist65 on Mar 22, 2016 14:22:20 GMT 1, Personally I don't see how lenticular printing will particularly improve this image, but will be interesting to see. They could look amazing, or they could as someone posted previously look like glorified cereal boxes..
However Eelus is perfectly within his rights to rework a previous print image for a new medium. I don't remember him signing the image rights over to the 100 or so print collectors when he released the screen printed version.. D*Face didn't get dogs abuse when he did the DSTQ lenticulars, although I think that image makes more sense as a lenticular. Look at the likes of Obey, Faile, Jamie Reid, James Cauty etc. Artists revisit previous works all the time and if Eeelus has been playing with lenticular printing and felt that this image worked really well, then thats his right its his creation! Personally I would have done a much lower edition starting at ยฃ3k but I think his only crime here is being in bed with Art Republic and letting them steer him on edition size and price. He seems to have a good relationship with them though, with the previous print BBQ events etc, so again its kind of up to him what he does..
edit - wish i'd read his statement above before writing this post! =]

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by pokodogo on Mar 22, 2016 15:30:10 GMT 1, I hope everyone agrees Lee's comments make absolute sense and fair play to him for letting people know rather than just letting it be released.
No ATR or WTNFU, the secondary market on Eelus prints will certainly be very interesting to see over the coming year ... ATR may reach NEISBW prices and the original NEISBW may plumet ....
Whatever happens as a huge 'E' prices dont matter just get them on the wall to be enjoyed, which I will be hoping to do with the new 3D release and cant wait to see what future new releases are to come.
In the meantime my BSMD has arrived from Ken at Spoke Arts competition so off to my Framers to get yet another super Eelus release ready for the wall.

As I have said before though I don't blame him for it I would have done the same if not probably released more. Why should the flippers make all the money.

If you think your art sells too low, raise the price of the first issue. If you dont like that risk of it not selling, dont cherry pick the best ones and water down the previous edition, just run an open edition then and see how many people buy your stff.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by pokodogo on Mar 22, 2016 15:47:18 GMT 1, Basically was given the option to go for a new version decide to run 10 saw how they came out and everyone went f**k that lets cash the f**k in. As I have said before though I don't blame him for it I would have done the same if not probably released more. Why should the flippers make all the money. Exactly .. why should flippers make money!
This is not the OG of NEISBW it is a new medium........
What I do like about this new release is the price at ยฃ950 the flippers may think twice about snapping it up enabling real art fans the chance to get the image...... what do they then put it up for on ebay, there wont be that many quick bucks to be made. Its not like a 200-300 print that goes for 400-500.
Right off to the framers

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by Dexter Bulldog on Mar 22, 2016 16:01:32 GMT 1, im curious if he made a face book statement when he doubled the ATR release by selling all the damaged ones as PP's? Was it only because of "new technology" like a scissor to trim the damaged edges and make an extra 20k?

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by kel on Mar 22, 2016 16:04:50 GMT 1, Why should the flippers make all the money. I just dont think you can have it both ways. If you think your art sells too low, raise the price of the first issue. If you dont like that risk of it not selling, dont cherry pick the best ones and water down the previous edition, just run an open edition then and see how many people buy your stff. Think the problem Lee was having at the time (and happy to be corrected) he really wasn't producing any quality work and everything was just to dark. Then from what I can only assume was inspiration from another artist he produced what can now be regarded as a classic but never realised at the time what its true market value should have been.
Though since this release we have seen more rainbow images which IMO really haven't worked. I reckon the other piece he mentions might be a Lenticular would be raven haired.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by randomname on Mar 22, 2016 16:20:50 GMT 1, What's the difference between the 3D edition and the 3D changing Rain addition... On the 3D edition, the rain moves but stays the same color. In the 3D changing rain edition, it changes color as it moves.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by vernaxley on Mar 22, 2016 16:31:31 GMT 1, Good luck to that Eelus fella and anyone who chooses to help him make a living. Shame on the haters who who feel the artist owes them a profit.
But seriously, all this angsts over an image which, from where I'm sitting, is but a Netto Nola.
