Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by Howard Johnson on Mar 22, 2016 16:34:00 GMT 1, Its kind of surprising that some people feel so strongly about this release. Shepard Fairey does this every few years, and now has even started re-releasing some of his very hard to find images from the 90s in the form of letterpresses and literally no one bats an eye. Damien Hirst must have re-released his dot images a hundred different times in different formations and mediums (i.e. diamond dust, etc) and no one seems to care.
Those artists are worth millions and in all fairness should be the last people cashing in on old images. Eelus in comparison has had a very modest career with one or two popular images and multiples. He has every right to re-issue an image even if it is solely for a cash grab. If your a fan, support this lesser known artist and don't put him under a microscope.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by pokodogo on Mar 22, 2016 16:36:24 GMT 1, What's the difference between the 3D edition and the 3D changing Rain addition... On the 3D edition, the rain moves but stays the same color. In the 3D changing rain edition, it changes color as it moves. Thanks ..... So the most popular would be the 'changing rain edition' right ? ... you get changing colour moving rain rather than just moving rain
Im sure either is going to look brilliant in the flesh and no amount of photography or video clips on a monitor will give you a real feel for the peice.

The wife saw this on facebook and says it's a must have! The better version will be the one where the rain variant changes color! Plus I think and hope flippers will stay away from this one with the high price tag! s**t the pound is kicking the dollars ass at the present moment! I just hope we get to see the finished product before we can make a decision on buying or not!

I've got to say as much as it's the artists right to decide what he produces, it's the buyers right to express criticism (dramatic or otherwise).

Hah I actually like the non colour change better (which is the one I'm going for), but you're right the other will probably be more collectable.
Only thing I'm worried about is that I'm 9 hours ahead in Busan, South Korea on that day, so here is hoping its an early release and I can get to wifi.

Fairplay on the cash grab from both. Get it while the getting is good, much easier than making new work. He's free to do what he wants with the image and collectors are free to stop supporting him. He won't notice or care about that though.

Buying into a print that will likely sell out fast at 1k, double the price safe in the knowledge that it's still well under the typical price bracket for one of the original prints; meaning the lenticular will remain an attractive proposition for someone who wants NEISBAW

Best print I own is the Redux version of his Firestarter print, I suppose a re-working of an earlier print, but right glad he did this version. Only have respect for what he's trying to do. From the dealings I've had with him, a cracking chap, and hope this only adds to his reputation.

The only reason I can see to moan as that your portfolio of prints may have just took a knock.

I don't like the rain changing colour one as it looks more distracting (IMO) and I like the simplicity of the 3D version of the original. Would still like to see it in the flesh though!!

Because as much as an artist purpose is about creation, with prints they are producing a product. Prints are limited edition because scarcity matters, for investment and for personal satisfaction in ownership. So going back on what you inherently agreed with the purchaser of your artwork by printing almost the same image in a new edition is a bit disingenuous. If you can't at least entertain that idea, then your one of the dumber members on the forum.

Bollocks! Eelus didn't sign a contract with anyone who purchased the first print release. Seems the true fans would be overjoyed with the lenticular release!
Seems from the above Instagram post, that Miss Bugs are about to release another edition of Mother. I own the original orange on paper. I'm not upset about it. I'm wanting the new Mother! Doesn't matter to me if the new edition makes my Mother less valuable on the secondary market. Because she isn't going anywhere!

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by t3c on Mar 23, 2016 14:16:39 GMT 1, This is my grail piece. I never pulled the trigger on the 3++ grand the normal edition would run me on the secondary as i could never justify the expenditure what with more important stuff i needed to spend that kind of cash on. My stance is a simple one, i think its great a lenticular version of NEISBW is dropping and i hope i can get one - which version to go for i keep see-sawing back & forth over however. It's a tough one.
Fair play to Lee on the statement he put out as well. It's fairly well known that he became sick to death of the image and probably the constant stream of people (myself included) that at one time or another during the past 6 years got in touch to see if there was anyway another version or such could be purchased. So the fact that he feels this version breaths new life into something he became bored/annoyed with is only a good thing in my mind.
People say and easy 100K? I'm not so sure what the cost is to produce something like this but i know it's not cheap as where i work we just did a Lenticular cover of one of our magazine titles so i have a rough idea and these were much smaller than this. AR are picking up the production costs too so it's not like he pocketing 100 grand personally is it?
Will it devalue the reg edition, splish splosh ed, canvas etc etc. No imo is my answer to that. This is a completely different thing for me (and others too after reading through this thread) and the older versions will always be more desirable I feel.
Good luck to those who are going for one come the 31st
This is my grail piece.
