The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Reader on Jun 25, 2016 13:45:06 GMT 1, Think your missing the point. Its not that immigration stops, The UK will always have immigration. The point is the numbers wanted and the type accepted. So each government in power will be responsible for that. e.g. if the country votes say Corbyn in you can expect immigration figures to go up. If vote in the Tories probably less. Thats the point. not the movement of people the restriction is the free movement of people in europe. so its a choice of the people of the UK not an unelected body in Europe That's what I said. Brex will not stop immigration. The UK won't be allowed to trade freely in the single market without accepting immigration quotas from the EU and now, they'll never be able to negotiate at the table with those who decide. It's simply no longer possible to think this way, the world has changed. Those that voted remain know this. Seems those that voted leave, based on both immigration and economic issues, didn't. Companies ship in thousands and thousands for cheap East European labour. It increases their profits. These are the people "leave" just handed power over to.

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by pingoo on Jun 25, 2016 14:20:10 GMT 1, The brexit doesn't change the UK situation that much IMO. UK was already outside EU with their own currency, they refused to sign maastrich and specific derogations were applied to them.
This panic situation is unjustified to me.
I feel sad strangely but UK will be fine (and you better be as i planned to visit UK with my little daughter !)

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Deleted on Jun 25, 2016 14:21:31 GMT 1, The truth is, you were never full member of the EU and now you'll never be.The old & uneducated know better than the experts. Can't wait to send you 1,2 Mio Brits back from Europe. Does that mean you can't wait for Britain to send back all the Europeans to their home countries in Europe too? More than 1.2 mil.
There is no such thing or country as a full member of the EU.
The EU constantly changes it's rules for membership.

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by agu on Jun 25, 2016 16:16:47 GMT 1, Interesting to note that, there is very little attempt to understand WHY immigration is such an issue and has such traction. Here is my £0.02
If you have you have a roof over your head, food on the table and small improvements in living - it feels like the sun is shining on your face and you have HOPE. Armed with hope, your reaction to immigration is "Come in the water is warm", this was the basis of the American dream.
If you have had no pay rise since 2008, and the industry around you is declining, the contracts and jobs are zero hour sh*t and all the good jobs move to London. You want to know "where's my share?". and if the lady who serves you in the pub is from Lithuania? Well, you never wanted her late night, long hour, minimum wage job but she is the face of what has changed.
Meanwhile, you constantly see others making and taking millions. The response from the policymakers has been, "Trust capitalism - it will trickle down". It has not. The equity Gap has grown, the (rising) cost of a house is 10x the (stagnant) average family income and the NHS, educational and social services are NHS are on their knees. So where is the money going?
The truth is the rich do not share the wealth - they lock it up, off shore/tax free if possible, or worse use it to buy up scarce necessities - housing, and sell these back to the rest at inflated prices to sucking up what little sun they had in their lives with ridiculous rents. Is it any surprise people are pissed off?
financial squeeze and increasing in-equity + poor policy = dissatisfaction + Politicians not prepared to take the blame and irresponsible jingoistic press = anti immigration sentiment
You can fix any part of the equation, it is just immigration is not the cause.

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Wearology on Jun 25, 2016 17:34:11 GMT 1, I thought the US and the UK were different but it an all reality we are exactly the same : ) Britain has up to eight million adults who are functionally illiterate, a report out today revealed. "The World Literacy Foundation said one in five of the UK population are so poor at reading and writing they struggle to read a medicine label or use a chequebook. According to research, this rate of illiteracy is costing the UK economy £81billion a year in lost earnings and increased welfare spending".

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Lroy on Jun 25, 2016 17:37:56 GMT 1, Well played UK ! You love your country ? I don't ! " People waving flags " have never been my glass of wine.
Europe was a maner to fight wars or bellicose countries as Russian Putin and co ( what a mess in the Balkans etc ,.. ) , and that's why I spoke about our kids.
I understand your hate about Brussels technocrats , quotas etc .. I never hated anybody apart fuckin idiots racists and kid's killers etc ... To live in self-sufficiency is not progress anyway and when I read on Facebook that, anyway, USA will always be there to help you, I am asking myself if what you asking for ( Liberty ) will really be one.
You always like to be an enigma, rock da house and roll on the left, and I used to like that English particularism , old and conservative one, your beautiful country before all. Reckon it : who cares apart old gents about green peas and lawns mowed ? Youths ? I don't think so. Without or with Europe, you will still have unemployed persons because it is our modern life, because the rich becomes richest and the poor poorest, every one wanted to be have the best job and earn more and more money, eyes wide opened.
Anyway I respect, you are good in affairs and business since middle-age, you have decided to weigh anchor and leave the continent as the proud flotilla and invincible armada... Again and again ...
Maybe nothing won't be so dramatic but it will be a mess to see you, share, and deal with you.. Problems.. What about charity now, with migrants, what about fights against terrorism etc ? ...
I am just a bit sad, when I open my window, to don't see the white cloves of Dover ( what we learned at school ) , because of the fog that will be thicker and thicker.
Much love.
* " you " means some of you, of course

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Deleted on Jun 25, 2016 18:21:25 GMT 1, I've literally just come back down from the mountain, having gone for a quiet smoke. All I could do was chew my lip, and again and again mutter the same words, honor and integrity, not words that I learnt in the classroom by the way.
If you shake on a deal, and give someone your word, then that's it, deed done. To atempt to renege seems dishonorable, shameful. If you know that making a deal will leave you f**ked, you dont do it.
As a remain voter, I admit to feeling humiliated, theres no other word, because my country has humiliated it self, like a spoilt belligerent brat, throwing its dummy out the pram.
It doesn't alter the fact that I feel, like so many others, that this vote was hijacked as a protest vote about our own politicians, and also derailed by the issue of immigration.
Try telling your local bonehead about immigration quotas. Alternatively try telling some middle class arty farty about the reality of their failed democracy. The house of lords doesn't seem to count for some reason, and the fact that we dont have proportional representation, matters not.
Independence day? I dont see much celebrating, I see British people quietly thinking, what the f**k have we done. Oh, and to those bigots who see fit to blame the working class for this, it crosses all class divisions, and as stated earlier, racial, economic, and educational differences.
I regularly have a thirteen year old around here, and my sympathies lay with a whole generation of young people, who inspite of being far more clued up than many adults, are not old enough to vote, and whos voices have been almost completely ignored.
It truly is a sad day, when you are left feeling so utterly ashamed of your own country.

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Deleted on Jun 25, 2016 18:40:57 GMT 1, Listening to a bit of LBC radio today. A young man, school leaver was saying that his generation have lost opportunities and a part of their future. Now not being able to benefit from travel and live and work in Europe freely.
Then some toffy nosed toff phoned in and said Brexit ha screated opportunities because now the UK can trade with Africa and are not now bound by EU rules. What bizarre logic unless of course the Brexit brigade have just discovered a huge opportunity they can make millions from for themselves.
Plus Farage has stated publicly that a Brexit means that the UK can accept more migrants from Africa. Would that be via LIbya and Italy I wonder, but snake toungue Farage never went into detail. He and Blow Jo (next Tory leader) make vague statements and never back them up.
The majority of young people in the UK would benefit more from Europe than from Africa.
The UK has been doing trade with Africa for decades and Africa is very well developed today and some parts are run down which is due to conflict caused by corruption.
Mandela when president of South Africa did nothing to improve the quality of life for the poor in South Africa.
Dan Hannen now says Brexit will not prevent or limit migration into the UK.
In a nutshell the Brexit anti immigration stance was targeted at eastern european migrants into the EU and Labour supported it.

The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Deleted on Jun 25, 2016 20:57:42 GMT 1, "Democracy has failed" Shall we vote on it?
People have raised concerns with regard to democracy and the European Union. To me, this has seemed somewhat disingenuine, when the house of lords is not democratically elected by the populous. Also, I have recently come to question if one principality, governed by an unelected government of another principality, is really that democratic. I don't personally believe that this does constitute democracy, and consider the lack of proportional representation a failure of democracy. So yes, democracy has failed, or rather the democracy we had or have, is a very limited and selective one in the first place.
Furthermore, I blame in part, this failure of democracy, Whereby time and again the wishes of the peoples of an entire principality are ignored. 'The Ignorant', my fellow countrymen have had their say, and misused their vote as one of protest, against a system of gross political inequality. Unfortunately they were not so alone in this, as the not so ignored also decided to join them. Who will pay the greatest price? Scotland seems to be heading towards a second referendum, and where will that leave Wales? Going cap in hand to a Tory Westminster government, who can now treat some of the poorest sections of society even more shoddily.
so if fault is to be found, who is responsible for this misuse of the EU vote? Well, surely the ignorant eh? Yes. People should seek to educate themselves, even if it's only a little, that's true enough.
I'm left questioning how so many people, The Ignorant, my fellow countrymen, in my own principality, became so ignorant in the first place. Were they born this way, or has social engineering had something to do with it. Apathy, resentment, frustration, poverty, political inequality, and a lack of adaquate representation, such as a parliament for example.
For out voters to of cried so loudly about the said lack of democracy with regard to Europe does seem a little on the hypocritical side, although understandable. That's the hardest part about this referendum result, I understand all too well why people voted out. Does this mean that we will have democracy now then, or more democracy, a successful full democracy? One that nurtures the better aspects of humanity, rather than arms dealing, greed, and tax evasion? Or will the poor, be forced even further to pi55 on their own chips.
I'm no nationalist by the way, and have a carbon footprint as big as yeti's.
Also, on the subject of failed democracy, Whilst many are not old enough to vote, and I am aware of a few voices of dissent, I can't help but question the wisdom, or lack of it, of a country that ignores the voice of a whole generation. Has this country done so at its peril? Has this country done at a price, we don't yet know of?
I just feel angry and disillusioned that so many adults, could be so pig headed as to completely ignore their kids, who are undoubtedly far brighter. Ever feel you been cheated? Yeah, used, screwed, and hung out to dry.
"Democracy has failed" Shall we vote on it? The UK's EU Referendum - 23rd June 2016., by Reader on Jun 25, 2016 21:10:15 GMT 1, Interesting to note that, there is very little attempt to understand WHY immigration is such an issue and has such traction. Here is my £0.02 If you have you have a roof over your head, food on the table and small improvements in living - it feels like the sun is shining on your face and you have HOPE. Is it any surprise people are pissed off? financial squeeze and increasing in-equity + poor policy = dissatisfaction + Politicians not prepared to take the blame and irresponsible jingoistic press = anti immigration sentiment You can fix any part of the equation, it is just immigration is not the cause. Spot on.
