Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by sapi on Feb 14, 2019 19:49:10 GMT 1, thanks for the tip samo! i just read the interview (a rare treat for blu's followers). at the time he was using a few gallery shows to sell drawings ("which are not much other than sketches of what I make on the walls") to fund public projects ("My exhibitions are very simple and quite ugly in comparison with the work I do in the street"). as we all know, after not many shows, he decided to opt out of the selling/gallery world completely ~2011 (impeding the development of his market while also making the works he did sell extremely rare). in the influencers video he says at the end that he works as a cook to support himself (i think).

Amazing interview indeed, such grounded. He speaks Spanish, but not so well because some one other corrects him with the right Spanish term. so it was easy to understand what he says. i do not think there is enough of a market to say (i have not seen this come up for sale in a while and no one is offering when folks seek it). a funeral sold on ebay in december for ~$770. another is currently listed for 2x. so the price on ebay is somewhere between those two (and, as noted, ebay is more problematic with blu because there is no consensus on how to list blu's work). if the current listing sells, the next could be higher still (or lower, but with no new inventory ever, that seems less likely). so what is the market value for funeral?
with gaza strip there are less data points. my guess is gaza strip is more than funeral (and world wide web). the V&A has one in their collection. it references an iconic mural and is classic blu. the edition size (100) is relatively small. i would think over $2k (but not sure how much over).
btw, nice avatar spiderjoe (i have the yellow rennes uv).

as we all know, Blu made very little work for the market and all of his originals are extremely rare (and i do not see them for sale anywhere). with some of his peers, 22k for an extremely rare original would be a bargain.
given Blu’s limited production, and importance to and continued engagement with street art, it would not take much to tip his pricing toward his peers. this Swiss gallery taking interest in his secondary market - if it continues - will be a significant step in that direction.

to me it is grey area. signed by Blu = better than "no official authenticity marks" and gallery and auction sales start provenance trail, but i have to think they will trail the editioned works on the market (at least because it has this cloud of uncertainty - we do not know why it was not part of the edition) - though maybe not by much (given rarity of work and signed by artists which signals to me that Blu thought the work was legitimate).

The print has a few minor dings and creases which are not completely obvious except in the right light and angles. This is a rare print and they were handled poorly by the selling gallery. Finding a print available is hard enough without trying to find one that is perfect.
All this being said I will accept £2k for this print if anyone wants it.
I can email images to all interested parties so just send me a message if you’re interested.

An etching by Blu. This is number 1 of an edition of just 3. It’s framed by one of the best (Pauli or John Jones, I forget which).
I was wondering whether anyone had a view as to a reasonable sale price, as I have not kept up to date with the value of Blu’s work.
