Good to see AucSab's art releases are of the same high quality as its PR.

I think any gallery representing or releasing Turk Ltd Eds has a bit of a coup on their hands

For many years turk has been challenging us with what art is. For his postgrad degree show at the RCA (which led him to fail his degree by the way) the work of art was a blue plaque which he mounted on the wall of the RCA and read something like "Gavin Turk Artist Studied here 19... to 19..."

Turk's early work centred almost exclusively on his signature. He did huge canvasses which he just signed in huge writing (often multicolour). His argument was that art had become such a commodity that people no longer looked at the art itself but just at who the artist is. Thus what is the point of the artist creating the artwork at all if the buyer is only after his signature.

More recently he had gone on to sign things to make them art, following on from the lead from the likes of Manzoni and Duchamp. He also does things like cast a rubbish bag in bronze then paint it black and stick it in the corner of a gallery to play with our perceptions of what art is and what it can be.

For my part I think he is a clever artist who has done something different. I wouldn't spend the money on the brick, mainly because I too struggle with the concept of paying that sort of money for a signed house brick. Nevertheless I enjoy seeing what Turk does.

It's a huge coup for Auction sab to have got an exclusive by Turk, whatever you may think of his art he is a massive name in the UK british art scene.

Im not sure about it being a coup Maybe Auction Sab was just an obvious choice for a release like this. I guess the artist looks for the people that would most likely buy a piece like that and Auction Saboteur was at the center of that scene.

a coup because behind Hirst and Emin, he's the most famous YBA - I can't believe for a second he came knocking on AuctionSab's door, so yes a coup in getting someone like this.

Personally I rate him above Emin. I went up to edinburgh for her retrospective earlier in the year and it left me cold. Just IMHO of course.

well done to Auction sab - got an art ban on at the moment due to 'Le Crunch' but otherwise would - and another piece (of the wall) of contempory art on this board - and whoever said this will be worth more that your hush is right it'll be worth more than your D*face and Walkers too.....

A classic piece in the same veign as Duchamps Fountain and Carl Andre's sculpture 'Equivalent VIII' famously displayed at the tate for the first time in the 1970's

Nice one Silky. Maybe you should start a Gavin Turk forum, there are obviously lots of fans of his on the board.

That apple core is very clever, cast in bronze and painted so well that you could be forgiven for thinking it's simply a real apple core.

Gavin Turk is very highly regarded and should be shown no less respect than any other artist, I'm surprised so many people seem to know little about him.
