David Bowie RIP, by mojo on Jan 12, 2016 17:23:16 GMT 1, What I'm struggling with is I've never lived in a world without Bowie playing in the background. His music is bringing back so many memories of friends and family, some thankfully still here and others passed. I remember Bowie from a very young age as will my nephews, only last week we giggled and sang a long to the laughing gnome in the car. My mascara is well and truly smudged especially when I heard this one, I was 3 the first time I heard it.

David Bowie RIP, by Dr Plip on Jan 12, 2016 19:28:19 GMT 1, I happened to be collecting a print from a printers in east London yesterday (he prints for Charlie) he showed me a rack of almost completed Bowie nightmare prints this was 9.30am. They had clearly been working on the project for some time so I don't feel they should be held in the same category as ambulance chasing sales e-mails. Yeah, as has been said, he was advertising these for some time now. This tweet was from the 6th.

No, but I used to live in Brixton for many years and still have lots of friends there. So I have seen a few photos. The tribute by the Ritzy cinema (where they usually put the old style letters naming the films showing) was lovely. It read "David Bowie Our Brixton Boy RIP"

Mentioned on radio 4 this morning that the local authority is looking to preserve a street painting of Bowie as a permanent tribute. I imagine it's this one.

First time I saw the pure evil print was on this thread, I think it's actually one of his best so managed to grab one before they started selling out. Wife likes it too. Seems like Bowie will be making the wall as well as the Sonos playlist.

The art is preserved for it's value to the community and people who paid their respects in Brixton and not it's financial value.

David Bowie RIP, by Deleted on Jan 14, 2016 23:07:44 GMT 1, A life in words - 29 famous quotes from David Bowie
You can neither win nor lose if you don't run the race
The only real failure is trying to second-guess the taste of an audience. Nothing comes out of that except a kind of inward humiliation.
To not be modest about it, you'll find that with only a couple of exceptions, most of the musicians that I've worked with have done their best work by far with me.
Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming.
I think Mick Jagger would be astounded and amazed if he realized that to many people he is not a sex symbol, but a mother image.
Talking about art is like dancing about architecture
I'm looking for backing for an unauthorized auto-biography that I am writing. Hopefully, this will sell in such huge numbers that I will be able to sue myself for an extraordinary amount of money and finance the film version in which I will play everybody.
I'm always amazed that people take what I say seriously. I don't even take what I am seriously.
Confront a corpse at least once. The absolute absence of life is the most disturbing and challenging confrontation you will ever have.
I can ask for cigarettes in every language.
As an adolescent, I was painfully shy, withdrawn. I didnโt really have the nerve to sing my songs on stage and nobody else was doing them. I decided to do them in disguise so that I didnโt have to actually go through the humiliation of going on stage and being myself. I continued designing characters with their own complete personalities and environments. I put them into interviews with me! Rather than be me โ which must be incredibly boring to anyone โ Iโd take Ziggy in, or Aladdin Sane or The Thin White Duke. It was a very strange thing to do.
I re-invented my image so many times that I'm in denial that I was originally an overweight Korean woman.
I'm afraid of Americans.
There's a terror in knowing what the world is about.
And I saw the sax line-up that he had behind him and I thought, I'm going to learn the saxophone. When I grow up, I'm going to play in his band. So I sort of persuaded my dad to get me a kind of a plastic saxophone on the hire purchase plan.
I've come to the realizations that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing half the time.
I'm very at ease, and I like it. I never thought I would be such a family-oriented guy; I didn't think that was part of my makeup. But somebody said that as you get older you become the person you always should have been, and I feel that's happening to me. I'm rather surprised at who I am, because I'm actually like my dad
I had to resign myself, many years ago, that I'm not too articulate when it comes to explaining how I feel about things. But my music does it for me, it really does.
Maybe I am insane, too โ it runs in my family โ but I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, โf**k that. I want to be a superhuman.
The only kinds of drugs I use are ones that keep me working for longer periods of time. I havenโt gotten involved in anything heavy since โ68. I had a silly flirtation with smack then, but it was only for the mystery and enigma of trying it. I never really enjoyed it at all. I like fast drugs. Iโve said that many times. I hate falling out, where I canโt stand up and stuff. It seems like such a waste of time. I hate downs and slow drugs like grass. I hate sleep. I would much prefer staying up, just working, all the time. It makes me so mad that we canโt do anything about sleep or the common cold.
The reason you donโt want to make a commitment is not that youโre such a freewheeling, adventurous person, itโs because youโre scared s**tless that it will turn out like your mother and father.
Fame itselfโฆ doesnโt really afford you anything more than a good seat in a restaurant.โ
Fame can take interesting men and thrust mediocrity upon them."
...and these children that you spit on, as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through...
As you get older, the questions come down to about two or three. How long? And what do I do with the time I've got left?
Don't you love the Oxford Dictionary? When I first read it, I thought it was a really really long poem about everything.
I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human.
I find only freedom in the realms of eccentricity...
I'm an instant star. Just add water and stir.

Yes, I believe this was one of the last photographs taken of David Bowie. Photographed by Jimmy King on his 69th birthday last week. Not a traditional "Bowie Fan" so will steer clear of the platitudes. Very sad and my thoughts are with his family. Without doubt, an incredibly influential artist and wonderful performer. This series of images is nothing short of astonishing, especially bearing in mind the circumstances. I thought the video for "Lazraus" was inspired and the low key, as I understand it, funeral was the mark of a showman bringing the curtain down in his own way.

David Bowie RIP, by mutatis on Jan 15, 2016 11:08:52 GMT 1, A very sad day. As I've already read, the word legend is often overused. Here it almost seems like an understatement. Massive part of my formative years. A true artist. And a bloody great singer/songwriter. So true. So as not to disrespect other "legends" - perhaps a new word should be found
We can all see and hear the influence he has had on fashion and countless musicians. Though some who now claim to have been so influenced by David - need to milk another opportunity....
It was great that even though punk was in full sway, Bowie and Iggy were accorded punk godfather status. Tribal codes were waived when it came to Bowie and I am sure there are others who were equally into punk but went through the obligatory Bowie pegs phase - a rite of passage?
That aside, in the post-Diana years of public grieving, it has been touching to see the effect his passing has had on the lives of so many people across the board, spanning generations
My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. They have lost him in the true sense of the word. For me, a simple fan, although a bit raw at this time, his music and memories of seeing him, will always be with me.
