What was your first ever Art Purchase?, by bestdj777 on May 12, 2021 22:56:22 GMT 1, I used to watch Pawn Stars way too much and a few pieces caught my eyes. The first was by Steve Kaufman and I quickly searched for a canvas of his and added my first piece to my collection. A couple of years later, there was a Di Faced Tenner and I was hookedโI got a reproduction with a really cool piece painted over it by a British mosaic artist. A few years later and my walls and my portfolio are packed.

First purchase was in 1996 and was purchased from my old art teacher at School. Cost me $600.00 which at the time was over 3 weeks wages. I watched him paint it in his office at lunchtimes at school during my last year. It was inspired by his daughters serious injury during gymnastics as she was training for the commonwealth games. Its called fallen Angel and was quite different to anything he has painted before and since.

What was your first ever Art Purchase?, by Naor on Aug 23, 2021 11:18:23 GMT 1, My first 'real' art buy was "death of culture" by Andre Teoman (watercolor original). It was only about 160$ but we liked it and wanted to hang it at home
Before my move to the UK I collected and restored old cars (has a mini, beetle, VW type 3) but when i landed in London it's hard and pricey hobby to have so I moved to art

We are going back quite a long timeโฆโฆ. I remember entering a ballot, and being successful in the Sunday Times for the limited edition โMelting Clockโ silkscreen Dali back in 1976 - Iโve still got the letter they sent confirming the award. From memory I reckon I paid ยฃ300(ish) for it.
The signed โHis Familyโ Lowry is an Art Guild print that I picked up soon after from a small gallery that used to be in Bromley - it was ยฃ75.00
Also from way back - around about the same time - heralded the arrival of the Michael English โSuperballโ, which I suppose was the start of my interest in modern and graffiti style stuff.
All 3 pieces remain in the collection.

What was your first ever Art Purchase?, by dave4 on Jun 12, 2022 1:57:22 GMT 1, The first "real" art work that I purchased was a set of 4 signed Robert Longo prints. When I was in college, I took art classes and my art application teacher showed us his work and we discussed how it was "created" and the controversy around it. I fell in love with it and when I got my first job out of college, I took my first paycheck and bought them. Back in 2000, they were not very expensive. But that has really changed. I still love them and they are the highlight of the bedroom.

What was your first ever Art Purchase?, by telmooh on Jul 12, 2022 15:40:49 GMT 1, My first ever art purchase was 'Blue Deer' by Belgian artist Dzia. It was a limited edition screen print of 40, but I was able to buy an AP from him directly during one of his first ever solo shows. Got a few pieces of him in my collection ( including a personal one on my body ) and he kind of became one of my personal 'friends' who I speak/see regulary.
By far my most favourite artist
