Harland Miller Prints, by Someones Brain on Aug 18, 2016 12:57:03 GMT 1, Best picture ever Dungle. How much do you want for the baby? I would caution against buying the baby as I have three in my collection and they have not increased in value at all. Even worse they cost significant amounts of money to maintain and framing options are tricky. Couldn't a solid box frame solve most of these problems ... ?

Harland Miller Prints, by larryforsyth on Aug 18, 2016 13:13:56 GMT 1, I'd never come across HM until I joined this forum. Absolutely love these works - incredible pieces that some of you own (though most are out of my price range).
How regular is the print output and what's the lay of the land in regards to pricing?

There's quite a few prints available. Try other criteria, white cube, reflex gallery. But theyll be at the higher end of the tier by now in the main.

I'll be sure to look into those galleries.

This forum would be unreadable if everyone wrote a post every time they didn't like something

I have seen them in the flesh. Still not stunned. Similarly the forum would be boring for many if it was everyone just agreeing how great stuff is. Any community needs dissenting voices.

Harland Miller Prints, by John The Badgers on Aug 18, 2016 19:07:38 GMT 1, Unless I come up trumps in this Liberty raffle, a print a long way off, but wanted to ask for any help in decent posters/exhibition cards that would look good framed up? Fantastic to see all the HM work on here, cracking thread.

I tend to agree, but id like to pose a more interesting question to fans of his work: how long can he realistically utilize the same motif? I'm certainly no expert on his body of work, but a quick google search only pulls up his book cover pieces, and logically it would seem that at some point it's going to yeald diminishing work, both artistically and in terms of investment value. The paintings are quite beautiful, and some are quite witty, but can he really carve out an important body of work by repeating essentially the same image over and over with slight variations?
I certainly respect that tastes differ significantly, but personally I tend not to gravitate towards artists who's work doesn't evolve in interesting ways.

The same can be said of many artists no ? Invader ? Stik ? how long can they realistically utilize the same motif? I'm certainly no expert Either - but logically it would seem that at some point it's going to yeald diminishing work, both artistically and in terms of investment value.
clearly it's still possible

Stik is a great comparison, another artist that has failed to innovate. Invaders quite the opposite, he took his initial motif and imagery and has expanded it to jaw dropping sculptures like those massive rubix cube works. Not to mention his application to cultural objects like ciggerette packaging. This type of innovation and expansion is what is lacking from stiks body of work and I think it's the reason he'll be forgotten down the line IMO.

Geez, just trying to get a convo going beyond "this sucks" and "he's amazing." I'll leave this tread to the fans, let's see those frame ups!

Harland Miller Prints, by Deleted on Aug 19, 2016 0:41:01 GMT 1, I don't know that innovation is necessarily the most important thing for me when appreciating an artist. Even though Harland has created many book images they have certainly evolved over time without losing impact. I see the art as completely interpretative. If the book, color, words mean something to you and gives you pause in some way then I see that as meaningful. If you see it as complete shit but it still inspires you to discuss it then maybe still a bit meaningful.
