THE MET LOTTERY, by Coach on Oct 28, 2017 18:11:54 GMT 1, I too lived in Brixton for a couple of decades met, and was familiar with the digstar both under that name and in its previous guise. Were you ever to be found in 414? I actually don't recall ever going there, but would always walk by on my way to and from the station. My home at the time was at the corner of Saltoun Road and Atlantic Road.
I could often be found in there if a Friday night, whilst in my 20's. A long time ago now. No idea what it's like now, but I used to love it back then. I used to live just off Acre Lane. My happiest days.

Yep, I was in Brixton then, and frequenting 414 then. I could easily have been there whilst you were dj! Great chill out room upstairs. Always a great atmosphere. Special place for me.

THE MET LOTTERY, by met on Oct 28, 2017 20:29:55 GMT 1, Arguably sacrilege to put these two songs together. But then, it's only a game.
Spandau Ballet - To Cut A Long Story Short - uploaded by spandauballet
Joy Division - She's Lost Control (Live At Something Else Show) [Remastered] [HD] - uploaded by Agustรญn Casas Solaro
The editing is slightly frustrating with She's Lost Control. It often feels like a waste whenever the camera is taken off Ian Curtis.
At around 21:00 UK time tonight, I'll quote this post and add one or more questions or instructions. The first member to answer correctly, wins.

Connect the dots.
The answer I'm looking for is unrelated to musical style, or even to the videos themselves. And in case anyone's tempted to link Curtis's depression with the song lyric "I lost my mind", you're way off. This is more about a commonality in terms of youthful provocation, gallows humour, and perhaps defiance in the face of good taste.
A full answer is needed, and will require at least three sentences.

Close enough, taco. Congratulations.
REFERENCE ANSWER
What links the two are the names the bands chose for themselves. Both macabre wartime references.
Spandau Ballet adopted that name "after a friend of the band, journalist and DJ Robert Elms, saw [it] scrawled on the wall of a nightclub lavatory during a visit to Berlin."
Apparently, the expression was originally used by Allied troops in the trenches in World War I to describe "the twitching of the corpses hanging on the barbed wire and repeatedly hit" by machine gun fire from German lines. [German machine guns were at times referred to generically as "Spandau". This is the Berlin borough where some of them were produced, and they therefore had manufacturer's plates marked accordingly.]
The expression may also relate to the jerky movements (at the end of a rope) made by the many people who were hanged at Spandau Prison.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spandau_Ballet#1976.E2.80.931982:_Formation_and_early_success en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spandau_Prison#In_popular_culture
Joy Division's name comes from the 1955 Israeli novel The House of Dolls by Yehiel De-Nur. "Freudenabteilung" ("Joy Division") was the fictional name of the camp brothels in that novel โ but these were based on actual brothels (Lagerbordell) established in Nazi concentration camps.
Wikipedia: The camp brothels were usually built as barracks surrounded by a barbed-wire fence, with small individual rooms for up to 20 female prisoners, controlled by a female overseer (Aufseherin). The women were replaced frequently due to exhaustion and illness, and were usually sent away to their deaths later.

THE MET LOTTERY, by met on Oct 29, 2017 11:01:04 GMT 1, 12 hours passed, and no correct answer for that last cookie competition.
Small tip to push things along:
Although Sonic Youth and the song Kool Thing are quite famous, their connection to the other three video clues won't be part of the existing general knowledge possessed by many members. This could be for generational reasons. But also cultural ones, since the relevant reference ties in to an independent movement; it was never mainstream.
Consequently, Sonic Youth and Kool Thing might be acting as a distraction and stumbling block for some of you.
Focusing on just the other three video clues in the first instance โ and trying to work out what ties those three together โ may therefore assist you in solving the overall puzzle.
I'll post the answer tonight at 22:00 UK time (Sunday) if nobody finds it before then.

Although this competition requires an answer to win, rather than a question, I'm happy to reply:
In brief, not that I am aware of.
However, I'm always open and very keen to hear information which challenges the positions currently held by me. Whenever fresh evidence disrupts existing beliefs of mine, it's unsettling. But genuinely thrilling as well. In my case, pursuit for the truth is an ongoing work in progress.
So if you can show me anything which backs up the Grand Theft Auto theory in a convincing and decisive manner, you're the winner.

We may end up with two winners on this one.
