Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by andyroo0312 on Mar 21, 2017 6:04:15 GMT 1, Love him or hate him Banksy gets the world talking and that alone has to be a wonderful thing. I guess he feels he is doing his bit to help with what many see as Britains past sins regarding Palestine/Canaan or Eretz Yisrael if you prefer. Plus a little publicity never hurts..

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Dungle on Mar 21, 2017 22:56:51 GMT 1, Has anyone considered bringing their toddlers & young children with them for a stay?
I am undecided about taking OMG with me. I want to, the missus thinks I'm daft for suggesting it.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by 11 on Mar 22, 2017 0:33:50 GMT 1, When we visited the hotel, the manager had said they would be more than happy to provide extra beds for children so from their perspective they see no reason why you couldn't. I guess the biggest issue for children is that there is very little for them to do. It's old-school, like when most of us were kids and you used to go out and make your own fun so there doesn't seem to be very much specifically for a child to do. I didn't see any park or playground but then I wouldn't have been looking anyway.
The Mini-Bus ride from Tel-Aviv to the Checkpoint was the scariest part of the adventure - maybe it was just our driver but he was a lunatic!! In Palestine a lot of the cars are a bit knackered but there are some new cars too.....if you do have kids then you should probably check out the condition of the cab before jumping into it. Other than that I saw nothing.
All that said, I wanted to take my 13 yr old daughter....and after Dismaland she is desperate to go but my ex is adamant that she cant so can imagine your challenge is far greater than mine

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by smokie on Mar 22, 2017 0:48:54 GMT 1, Has anyone considered bringing their toddlers & young children with them for a stay? I certainly considered it as I am a single parent of a 14yo but the combined flight times of 60+ hours from Australia not to mention around $2000US each just for flights put me off a tad. Shame really, as it's truly a once in a lifetime adventure

It struck a chord with me as we just don't see that anymore, if the kids are playing on the streets here then its normally a scene from GTA or re-enacting the tea-bagging one of em got on COD the night before
For our kids; They do have Wi-Fi in the hotel and I had a pretty good 4G signal when I was walking around.....although got a text from vodafone on my last day telling me my Red World Traveller membership didn't count in Palestine!!

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Daniel Silk on Mar 22, 2017 2:45:04 GMT 1, Do you think Banksy is happy with this Hotel project so far?
I guess it's got a good amount of media coverage, good and bad, but the street party and shop seems to have been a bit of a disappointment to most Feels like it all had great potential but hasn't really gone to plan. Maybe the thing of the location and the country it's in has made it more difficult than he imagined to pull this one off?

I think it's proved a little more difficult and different then thought.
I also think the line of what's art vs real vs chairity has muddied up the 'project'.
I posted my thought on that here. urbanartassociation.com/thread/144407/walled-off-hotel-philanthropy-advocacy
Overall a pretty slow 20 days compared to NYC and even dismaland.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Happy Shopper on Mar 22, 2017 12:23:46 GMT 1, Jesus, it only just opened to the public!
Obviously there was a rush of media and excitement when it was announced, but it's only a hotel/art exhibition... and in a tricky location to get to. I'm sure there will be further events to generate interest throughout the year, but let's not expect daily updates or releases.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by alibear on Mar 22, 2017 12:30:00 GMT 1, Bethlehem is a touch more difficult and complex to get to them Dismaland was
When I went through Jordan into Israel some years ago me and my wife were interviewed in separate rooms... All worked out fine, but was a surreal experience...
This is my reservation letter for the hotel:
This letter constitutes official confirmation of your reservation. We would, however, discourage you from printing it out and carrying it on your person when transiting through Tel Aviv airport.
Security and immigration officials at the airport seek to discourage people from visiting the West Bank and may pull you aside for extra questioning if aware of your final destination. It is, of course, perfectly safe and legal to visit the occupied territories - you are doing nothing wrong.
But many feel such an inconvenience is not the ideal way to start their holiday. Consequently, if questioned most travellers choose to only talk about the beach or holy sites that they intend to visit.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Nuno on Mar 22, 2017 13:12:03 GMT 1, Just on my way back from Israel. Had an incredible trip, great people, food and sights but, make no mistake the area is still very volatile. There were gun shots and tear gas fired less than 400m from the walled off hotel today. Up until the point my eyes were streaming and my throat burning I had felt very safe.
Go if you can, but be under no illusions.

I may not pass this useful info onto my wife, she's at limits of her comfort zone agreeing to go with me in May as it is.. Tbf they are allowing 72hour cancellations which is reasonable and allows for plan B's if issues escalate at any point.
Out of interest SuperMick is there any detail anywhere re the tours they are offering with the bookings? Did you take up one of the Walled Off 'official' ones?

Yeah agree with above, great proud people, really enjoyed the trip
I saw the stones on the road on the way to a Palestinians house, he had invited my wife and myself to meet his mum and sisters And have lunch in his house in camp Aida, lovely family and great food
Some may say it was possibly a little over the top to use gas and bullets against people that are throwing stones against a 10' thick 20' high wall because they are frustrated being trapped like a bird locked in its cage. though I am sure there are others that feel it was appropriate action

the tours really should be done, I did the hotel one which comes in 2 parts @ $80 per person For my wife and myself it was the the best part of the trip apart from the palistinian people we met
