Don't get me wrong the announcement, the photos on the website, the buzz 20 days ago was pretty big.
And I'm sure going in person is incredible and powerful.
But for the 99% of art fans that aren't able to make the trip it's died down super fast.

Its a hotel not a show
You expect something yet respect nothing

I guess. I mean I basically already said that. I understand the concept.
It's just odd. Get rewarded for having the means to make a trip. Get nothing if you don't...

I was referring to the point that you made regarding those with the means to travel being rewarded. Im sure that lots of Palestinians would have loved to have gone to LA or NYC or even WSM but didnt have the means to do so.
Its these folks turn to have something of this nature on their doorstep.

Yeah.
Does anyone have any info on how it's viewed on the community. Are the people living there going to see it?

Yes, they are. Palestinians get free entry to the museum, and as a result lots of locals are visiting it. Almost every taxi driver I had had been to check it out, and I even met a local at my hotel in Jerusalem who'd made the trip down twice already to see it. People here love Banksy, and everyone knows about him. Banksy tourism is a BIG thing and many gift stores sell as many Banksy products as they do religious ones!

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Daniel Silk on Mar 27, 2017 11:38:31 GMT 1, Yeah. Does anyone have any info on how it's viewed on the community. Are the people living there going to see it? That's good to hear Yeah, it's great if the locals enjoy it and see it as having a positive impact on the area. But I can also understand the disappointment from the majority of people who can't really justify the budget of a trip there to visit the hotel. Apart from the locals, it really is something that only the well off can afford to go to and experience, but I guess those are also the level of customers Banksy is now selling most of his work to, rather than the masses such as with the Dismaland, Cans Tunnel event or Bristol Museum.

What does it cost to visit? I heard there are cheapish flights and the bunk beds are £30 or something. You can probably go for a night or 2 for less than the cost of most prints.
Even going to Dismaland from London cost a fair bit, and many people had to get hotels for a night if they were going to an evening session.

Thank you Some people can't afford to go abroad, traveling, holidaying in another country, some can afford to holiday abroad maybe once a year or every few years if they are lucky. To visit the Walled Off Hotel isn't what you would call a holiday not exactly a place to take your children for a fun or relaxing break, so you would need to be pretty well off to be able to justify jumping on a plane to Palestine. If you don't agree, it's ok we just come from different backgrounds and live surrounded by different people.

I agree. Great for the part with the local community.
As for everyone else there just seems to be less excitement for those who can't visit. Maybe it's how banksy unveiled it. It's basically a huge dump of images on his website and then you either visit yourself and experience it or maybe hear one thing of someone that did.
Besides the massive speculation for the ship and book followed by disappontement by most it's been so slow for those far away. Very different than NYC or dismaland. It's probably the physical access but I think banksy could have capalized on finding a way to keep it exciting.
Even unveiling a couple new images of the hotel or people thier every day on his instagram would be something.

I have tried not to reply to your negative posts recently. But...."disappointment by most...."?! It seems to me that the disappointment is coming from a very limited number of critics. It was suggested a while ago that yiu start your own separate thread to contain your moans and groans about how this project just isn't good enough for you. I think that's a great idea.
That's good to hear Yeah, it's great if the locals enjoy it and see it as having a positive impact on the area. Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by kaos on Mar 27, 2017 13:29:13 GMT 1, There will always be people who cannot get 'there' for whatever reason no matter where it is. I remember during Dismaland messages from people in Australia, USA and other parts of the world saying how disappointed they were because they could not make it to UK. As our American friends say - that's how the cookie crumbles. Talking of not being able to making it, I am one of the people who sadly will not be able to make it to Bethlehem but would love a couple of Tee Shirts if anyone is able to help. I will of course pay for your troubles. Thanks in advance.

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel ★★★, by Matt on Mar 27, 2017 13:33:48 GMT 1, Agree with Daniel Silk. Although we are not talking billionaire territory, most people won't be able to afford a stint down to Gaza just for art' sake...
But same for Dismaland unless you lived in the U.K., BOTI unless you were NY local etc etc
Fortunately we all have devices that enable us to feast our eyes on pics and vids, and forum members taking the time to write up their experience !

Yep, sadly we are probably talking in as low as the hundreds of people who will actually go there and stay at the Hotel, so maybe the media coverage was seen as more important than people going there.

With BOTI and dismaland there was so much more going on it seemed. It seems like Every day there was discussion and photos and more hyping it up. I did attend either of those either and so far the walled off seems so distant in comparison.

You are only seeing the negative. Oh I did start my own thread with my thoughts! Go join on that one haha
