Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by Masong on Apr 11, 2017 22:17:08 GMT 1, He gives something for average joes most years to enjoy... dismaland, walled off, movie, new york street show, bar & grill etc. The problem was the 'average joes' were tossers in queues, greedy, gangs and probably worse. so thats why he just sells things to above average joes now. [br Didn't realise being an average Joe made me a tosser, greedy and a gang member ๐ I get where your coming from though but it was the money involved that made it that way.

Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by thugs on Apr 11, 2017 22:26:15 GMT 1, i really dont see any flaw in one of the most recognized artists in the world constantly putting on events for fans of all incomes that are free or petty close to it. if youre a fan you can easily enjoy his art, you dont necessarily need a signed print with pest control to do so. So your argument is that viewing someone's work on the internet is all you need? NYC... dismaland... walked off are not accessible for most people. what a selfish, useless bastard banksy is, only making better out than in "accessible" to the 25 million people who live in new york, and dismaland to only 65 million in the UK, all of whom no more than a few hours travel away.

Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by Deleted on Apr 11, 2017 22:27:47 GMT 1, I've written this before, but here goes again. Obey and to a lesser extent Kaws show that you can be a global superstar and still give the common folk relatively affordable art. Even Hirst offers reasonably affordable multiples e.g the recent signed book. Based on no evidence at all, I think that Banksy is poorly advised that the way to go is to turn the reasonably priced art tap off. It just makes a bit of a mockery of the whole from the streets schtick.

Regulated to photos online for the other 7+ billion.

Exactly. The control over his prints with pest control and him refusing to release more. He's controlling the high prices. All while somehow making his fans loyal to defend it.

Seriously?! How can any artist make their art accessible to the entire planet, other than online? You demand too much. Way too much.

Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Apr 11, 2017 23:12:00 GMT 1, Honestly, it's the way of the world. The decreasing middle class everywhere is forcing people to find other ways to make money. I honestly don't know how things could be fair. If he released a bunch of cheap prints, it spits in the face of those fans who already have his pieces and likely purhcased at a much higher price. Flipping is not going anywhere. It's happening in real estate, clothing, shoes, electronics, etc. It's not going anywhere. Sometimes you have to accept that some things just simply aren't for average joe's. I'd love a Range Rover, but that's not likely happening for me and I'm cool with it.
Good post and correct, the majority on here are speculating to make money at the end of the day like in every other market. Every market bubble bursts eventually. Flipping happens in all markets, over here in OZ the property market is still in a bubble and it's easy to flip a house after a year to make $100k, sell up buy another and rinse and repeat it will burst one day and people buying in at the top will lose out..
I think top earners in the city (London) for a while are no longer buying shares or bonds like they use to and have turned to art, and banskys... and now probably invaders
Some artists will stay high priced and keep going up, some will come back down. So it's a risky game if you are in it to make money.. I am not bothered if Banksy doesn't release prints for us poor as long as he keeps up with the big surprises.. Maybe he could be donating more original works to charities also.

Quite easily. Release a print.
No matter the edition size that is work that could go to anyone.
You know how an artist doesn't reach an entire planet. By not releasing prints.

Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by South Bound on Apr 11, 2017 23:55:01 GMT 1, I don't have the energy to read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has been posted. For a long while banksy had downloadable images on his website that were open to the public (just not for resale) that you could put on any medium you liked.
I downloaded a couple and put on baby onesies. If you ever see a little baby wearing a blue onesie of Thomas the train being spray painted, that's my 5month old hooligan.

Entitlement? Me? Geez did I not call this? Banksy's loyal fans have somehow been 'brainwashed' to defend it! Did I not call that?
An edition size of 100 has the ability to reach 100 people.
An edition size of 0 has the ability to reach 0 people.
It's quite simple.
Answer this. Why does banksy have such a stranglehold on his prints with Pest control? Why does it matter to him who owns them? Why not release prints?

Because sometimes the man at the top isn't always the man in charge. I mean look at Ronald McDonald.

Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by Coach on Apr 12, 2017 0:10:34 GMT 1, So, what should the edition size be? I don't understand this sense of entitlement that you have.
Yes, entitlement.
Brainwashed? Very funny. I just happen to believe that it's up to each artist to decide how to develop their career and to whom they sell. It's not up to me, and it's certainly not up to you.
Edition of 100? I thought you were concerned that dismalland reaching anyone out of 65 million that wanted to visit for ยฃ3 was inadequate, as it left 7 billion unfulfilled? But an edition of 100 will sort that, right?
Pest control have a stranglehold? Twisting the facts? Happy with it being easy for forgers to rip people off? Maybe that was the reason PC was established?

Has Banksy forgotten about your average Joe?, by Deleted on Apr 12, 2017 0:43:23 GMT 1, As I have nothing better to do and having just read the whole thread I thought I may as well add my two penn'orth worth. If people want to pay thousands for an unsigned piece of paper with a picture on it and even more thousands for a signed piece of paper with the same picture on it then that is up to them, I myself have paid lot's of money for pieces of paper or canvases with pictures on them, if they have the means and that's what they want to do then why not and who are we to say it is right or wrong. It is irrelevant if the art is bought for love or gain, it just does not matter. To gripe about it only fuels the Banksy marketing machine and pushes prices further up, the old adage "There's no such thing as bad publicity" is very true. Their are loads of artists work that I would like to own but who I cannot afford and that is just the way of the world. I honestly think it has nothing to do with Banksy making a decision to not release a open edition or timed edition or whatever, maybe he genuinely just doesn't give a shit, maybe and wait for it maybe Banksy is not a nice person and does not care about you owning a piece of his art? Maybe he just enjoy's making art and is not really bothered about the cockroaches at the top who manipulate the art market for their own benefit. Maybe he is not bothered about the average Jo, maybe he's only bothered about putting bread on the table for his family so does whatever he has too. And just to add I do not own a Banksy print either signed or unsigned and yes I would very much enjoy to have one on my wall, maybe when the prices crash I will get one
How's that for a disorganised grumble about Shite that just does not matter.
