Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by Hairbland on Apr 25, 2017 14:19:39 GMT 1, Good point. Everyone will think your kid is a bit slow when he or she can only recite 25 letters of the alphabet. Eine works really well on the streets but the Letter prints just offer nothing to me.. this is poor and no W so it fits? Meh!
I think the no W one of the few moments of real inspiration for him. He is a craftsman moving in an art world.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by bigv on Apr 26, 2017 17:03:52 GMT 1, Is it too early for Pokras Lampas? I'm not sure if he's in the should have blown up argument or is still developing. I like his aesthetic, plus who doesn't love his painting on girls series. He feels like a more energetic Retna without the domestic violence background and he seems to be huge in Russia and Eastern Europe but doesn't get much love here. Is that because he doesn't do many prints?

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by Philippe on Apr 26, 2017 17:28:47 GMT 1, Yeah Neate got fucked by Elms and from becoming too popular just before the 08' recession. The then shift in economy most notably effected Micallef but he's steadily getting back to the primary prices he had once achieved. Whereas Neate, I've got no clue what he's up to.

I think he just went out of fashion and/or lost momentum somehow.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by mla on Apr 26, 2017 18:20:53 GMT 1, Phlegm has been quiet in terms of print releases, but he has been grinding just as hard as ever both publicly (walls) and privately (in his shed).
His following has also continued to grow. Looking at instagram, he has quietly amassed 67K followers since late July 2014, which is pretty impressive considering he does not have a gallery promoting his work.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by Anthony Styles on Apr 26, 2017 18:28:26 GMT 1, I agree with your points cashewman. There needs to be a number of positive factors surrounding an artist these days in order to pave the way to the top.
Unfortunately some of the most talented will never make it and it's frustrating that they haven't found their way yet. One such example is Lucas Price who is an outstanding artist.
For transparency I am a very happy owner of some Lucas Price originals but I'm not saying this based on frustration that his works have not grown fast in value. He's just a damn good artist who's work is stunning and gives me a lot of joy to look at.

When people say made it, i presume they are relating to an investment.
Many of these artists have made it without that. Pure evil for example and eine are quite happy churning it out for home and wear decoration and make a good living from it. They dont care about secondary sales. If you can be an artist and live off it then you have made it - no?

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by surge on Apr 26, 2017 21:05:57 GMT 1, I agree with most people that obviously in regards to artists that blew up was #1 is Banksy, then #2 was Shepard Fiarey and not Invader (invader would be my #3). Shepard Fairey blew up beyond just being an artist but a brand. It doesn't matter what people think, it's Shepard Fairey that is truly undervalued. If you look at Shepard's art value they start to increase the moment people purchase them.
Even with his fame and success he continues to put his art on the streets and releases prints regularly. The day he slows down and no longer sells prints at $45 is when his work will sky rocket.
It is my belief that collecting art in hopes that it will increase in value will only lead to heart ache. Collect the artwork you love and want to hang on your walls and enjoy viewing-- and if the art increases in value it's a win win.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by tuftynuts on Apr 27, 2017 9:46:03 GMT 1, Eine works really well on the streets but the Letter prints just offer nothing to me.. this is poor and no W so it fits? Meh! I think the no W one of the few moments of real inspiration for him. He is a craftsman moving in an art world. It's he more pragmatist than conceptualist. The lack of 'W' keeps the artwork as a 5x5 square.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by tuftynuts on Apr 27, 2017 9:51:50 GMT 1, Yes Obey good call, he was one of the first guys I noticed in Central london the 'Giant' face was such a symbol and very recognisable. Shep will have his day as he's part of US art history - his Obama print saw to that. His cheap and too frequent print releases have kept his print market in check. The OGs seem to be picking up momentum, certainly with the West Coast galleries. It may be that he has to do a Basquiat and peg it before his values are fully pumped.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by tuftynuts on Apr 27, 2017 10:00:33 GMT 1, I'm suprised Adam Neate isn't more popular. I heard someone say it was something to do with Elms Lester but if anyone surely they have done most to promote him? Is he too highbrow for the street art lovers but not mixing enough in the right circles to take it too a more high end audience? Stuck in between somewhere? I don't own any of his work but I'm often quite tempted. They fucked him The collectors fucked Neate, not the gallery. The dilletantes bottled it when the credit crunch hit. His star will rise again because of Elms Lesters, not in spite of them.

Elms Lesters have done a meticulous job in documenting Neate's progress for the long term. They're continuing the long game by exposing him to the Asian markets. Plus Neate is a genuinely gifted artist ,which is more that can be said for a lot of names mentioned on this thread. There's a very short termist outlook here.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by Deleted on Apr 27, 2017 13:46:28 GMT 1, Shepard Fairey
The fact that he produces so much work is only evidence to me of his Creative genius, an artist who has not forgot about the average Jo and One of the most iconic street artist's on the planet.
A work that I have long admired is "Dark Wave" but could never afford to pay for a limited edition on the secondary market but thank's to Mr Fairey I have now been able to purchase a quality 36 x 24 inch signed print for $35!!! direct from the artist!!
If your fast enough you can grab Limited editions for not much more than this from his site. Even his originals are priced at what I consider for someone of his standing to be very cheap.
Outstanding Mr Fairey a true man of the people, unlike some I could mention.....

Shepard Fairey / Obey does not need to sell his art for money because he makes so much money on his apparel line. Obey is like a movie theatre - he can just give away tickets to movie as long as you buy his popcorn.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... Should his not be of significant impact in this conversation?
the best shows for me (in recent years) have been:
Faile Vhils Swoon

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by team3d on May 30, 2017 1:59:54 GMT 1, 1st up was Banksy kaboom 2nd up is now Invader bang (for the current moment) just wait prices will readjust... 2 OG's that have put in as**t ton of street work and gained the respect from the masses are Ben Eine and Shepard Fairey. It doesn't really matter what I think... but Ben Eine and Shepard Fairey are truly undervalued for what they will one day be worth (monetarily speaking but most of all figurativley) It is in my opinion Shepard Fairey will be up next.. 3rd Shepard Fairey- His OGs are still cheap as hell, he continues to get up on the streets around the globe despite being bling in one eye. He is getting old... And still continues to release art to his fan base for a reasonable price. The day he stops producing prints for $45 is the day everyone will be scrambling. Honestly it does not matter who you collect as long as you are not afraid to hang it on the wall and enjoy it. I understand the monitory and intrinsic values of collecting but every one began collecting/buying someone or something for one reason or another. As with everything, times change, society changes and your buying power changes. What should never change is your core... your core meaning why you began this epic journey in the field of collecting/observing/buying/creating art. Stay Up
totally agree, Shepard fairey is way under value, but the reason is himself, he over produce and flood himself out of the market.
when i first saw his prints sold at a local l.a. moca store back in 2000-2001, it just blew my mind, i have never seen anything like it and i was like an addict, i want to buy everything he ever produced.
but when i first saw banksy's work few years later, it didn't do it for me like Shepard fairey.. i never went bananas but over the years, i started to appreciate it a lot more and it got a lot of substance within his work. it is why he is who he is today. banksy is not a hype.

Artists who should of BLOWN UP ..... But haven't. , by ca on May 30, 2017 2:10:25 GMT 1, I think the value in Fairey will eventually be in his classic imagery/older prints that defined him and his style. The "recent" over flow of random prints will be worth a tad more than the 50$ he charges but not much. I could see his older works and classics gain much more value going forward as I tend to believe they're currently undervalued relative to other less established artists.

The Chinese are already into Invader, but face Pure Evil headwinds. Japan though and Korea are now deeply into Invader. So if we see another another bull run, IMO, it'll be from the latter two.
If you guys want to follow the industry averages, go here:
Invader.io
And yes, they have an app. It is an average though.

Shepard Fairey is an overseer for the common man of the graffiti age much like Peter Max was for the Free Love Generation.
People who know very little about Street Art have an awareness of Fairey, his immigrant art was in newspapers and people used while protesting. That seems pretty "street" to me.
