If I had $10K to spend on Art, by samfrost on Jul 17, 2017 0:36:45 GMT 1, Still don't understand the whole crytpo movement when unexplained "crashes" keep occurring. Ethereum now $156 for those who misses loading up at $400 a few weeks ago. Fun to watch, but a lot better things to do with $10K. Now back to art!

If I had $10K to spend on Art, by Deleted on Jul 17, 2017 18:29:26 GMT 1, Great time to buy imo. (Quote this around the 2nd week in August) I was doing some comparisoms online and the ins and outs of all the e coin stuff.
Read some negative reviews regarding Coinbase and people losing money and having their accounts blocked or frozen.
I don't mind the volatility. It's all interesting but it's a big put off when people who have invested or made e-coins find themselves having their accounts blocked.
There is even a guy who reckons he lost a 100K with a similar service to coinbase.

If I had $10K to spend on Art, by ecomwizard on Jul 17, 2017 19:51:57 GMT 1, If you own any digital currency do you self a favor and download the wallet for the coin you have and export your coins onto a USB drive for safe keeping. I made the mistake of keeping my Bitcoin and Alt coins in the Cryptsy exchange and lost about $10K when the owner of the exchange stole all the funds and took off to Thailand.
I wouldn't trust any online bank with that much money ever again.

If I had $10K to spend on Art, by Sub Method on Jul 17, 2017 22:56:04 GMT 1, I suggest those who have interest to purchase cypto currencies post or a little before August 1st or after Segwit. The price crash is a good thing for numerous reasons. If anything, it frees up currency for others to grab like myself. Don't listen to the naysayers. We had a miraculous run and made money. Now we await a consolidation then another bullrun or maybe a slow grind upwards.
As far as wallets are concerned, never leave money on an exchange. I would keep all coins on an offline wallet. Look up Keepkey or Trezor. Both are excellent. And I own several. Outstanding CSR too.
Before people start flooding my inbox again, I will tell you the several reasons we are having a crash right now. This is my own opinion from being in the game so long. And no, this is nothing new.
1) FUD - Everyone is freaked out about August 1st and the fate of bitcoin. Simply google Segwit. and see the insane claims.
2) All the ICOs are cashing out their Ethereum to pay for their companies. This stresses the system and causes issues for Ethereum which can't support this level of cash outs. We are talking MILLIONS in cash outs with no regulation or blackout periods. This scaling issue is being addressed as we speak and I know it'll be fixed.
3) More FUD - Overall, newbies cashing out in terror. Coinbase witnessed 1 million new sign ups in 1 month to cash in on the craze. Then they sold off quick and ran the market even further into the ground.
4) Vitalik ( creator of Ethereum) death hoax - www.coindesk.com/proof-life-vitalik-buterin-uses-ethereum-blockchain-disprove-death-hoax/
5) Flash crash on GDAX - someone cashed in big on Ethereum during a major glitch in the system. Bought Ethereum for .10....and I mean a lot. Instant millionaire due to a single buy bot.
6) Alot of FUD on reddit and youtube. I keep SMH at the amount of misinformation out there. Kids with maybe a coin or two talking like experts. Truth is, there is NO NEW NEWS. It's been the same for the last 6 weeks. In fact, more companies are investing in the Ethereum technology today then months ago.
7) Goldman Sachs crashing the market to help get back in for investors. Read here: www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-price-plunges-below-goldman-sachs-target-rebounds-sharply-2017-7
Anyhow, be well and buy what feels right. And yes, we will have these triangle bear patterns until August 1 or maybe shorter time.

If you have faith in the tech, then now is a great time to buy for a long term punt imo.

Buy a relatively well spread out number of coins from the companies you think will be around for the long haul, stick it all on your nano ledger, leave it in your sock drawer and wait 5 years

If I had $10K to spend on Art, by Deleted on Jul 20, 2017 16:39:57 GMT 1, Thats one big problem with these type of virtual currency.
The speculation and the not having a set value is one big put off for people who would look at virtual currency as useful for when they are selling their products.
How many on here would be prepared to sell their signed Banksy print for example for 10 or 20 bitcoins or x number of ethereums?

Bitcoin hit $4,439.24 & Ethereum is trending at $329.
That is all. Happy Friday.

If I had $10K to spend on Art, by mose on Aug 25, 2017 17:36:46 GMT 1, I enjoy the crypto conversation very much, please do keep it up. I don't know much about and enjoy learning.
On the original topic, the best investment to make in art with $10k is travel. Go to NYC and spend a week hitting the galleries and museums(don't miss DIA: Beacon, Magazzino, and Storm King which are day trips outside of the city). Even better if you time it for auction season so you can see the previews. Go to London, Paris, LA, etc.
$10k is a grain of sand on the beach when it comes to art spending. Many I know consider it 'decorative' level, where they expect no return whatsoever. Investing in yourself, your knowledge, and training your eye is the only way to guarantee any sort of return.

I wish I could be so flippant about £10k to drop on art! 😁 I stick to just buying bits I like and not so worried about value. I would commission a large Mr Jago and blow the lot on that!

I think if 10k appeared I'm not sure Art would be top of my list - but assuming I can only buy art - erm an MX5 and get someone to paint it (sold up - dropped out - buggered off to the top of a hill in a new country decided in my new life a sports car was dumb - god I miss my dumb little car) - but 10k would buy a decent second hand one.
Otherwise I doubt I could bring myself to pay the stupid secondary prices for most of what I'd hang - although there's a Faile or two
I doubt you can get a Warhol - or at least a good Warhol for that money - same with Liechtenstein.
So either go find a decent Old Master and they can command surprisingly "little" compared to a print by certain artist - or get a commission or 3 - Hush - Faile - or a few from lesser known artists.
Alternatively throw it in a guilt free pot and not worry going forwards whether I could afford something.

If I had $10K to spend on Art, by seanburke on Sept 5, 2017 12:18:28 GMT 1, Beginners finance question on crypto ..... what is the difference between buying the coins and having a ledger etc (which seems like a lot of hassle) and just trading on crypto currencies on a platform like etoro ? By the way ETH is crashing through 300 on the back of something happening in China Buying and holding them on a ledger is the longterm move - don't touch them for months or more likely years. If they are off the exchange, you don't need to worry about the exchange going tits up in 8 years etc.
Trading on an exchange is obviously the short term option but your coins are never really yours as you don't hold the keys.
a lot of people do both - hold a % and then trade with the left overs.
Lot's of people trade the cheaper coins because if you have 2k of them and it move €2 then you're laughing.
