It seems to be a practical joke about the art for sale only at the hotel on their website.
They probably thought a few people might make the trip to the hotel and at least they could salvage a few rooms booked after the summer - I can't imagine they find it funny - now that people actually made the trip from the US and the UK to Bethlehem to only find out this was a prank to increase sales and to say that a hook was sold out even though no actual customers have posted a picture of the hook.

Anyway, unfortunately, I wrote too to the Walledoff Hotel, because of the shop ( no link ) : in fact I have just bought waht I can afford , a tee and a Tote bag, but I have not any confirmaiton email of my order, and almost all, I wanted to change my Tote bag against a tee for my son !
It is true that it is not easy to get them, and I don't like also to worry the WOH, as I was only asking for the shop..

I suspect they might pump these dioramas out for a while yet. The clue perhaps is in the description that they are painted by local craftspeople. This could be a mini industry in its own right if Banksy wanted it to go that way.

People said the same about the Dismaland tickets when they didn't go on sale when they were first meant to. However, it's a pity when his ideas are let down by poor communication. When he's fully aware people will be travelling and spending a lot of money getting there, it's not asking too much to be clear about what exactly is on offer, and when it will be available

The thing as a whole represents being able to overcome this...... Like I said someone will explain it better but in a nutshell I think that's about it Grappling with the guilt of crucifying and killing Jesus.
Then there's that whole Spear of Destiny thing...

It was fantastic to meet the people there, to see how they live and to hear about their problems. I'm sorry the hotel wasn't open - I would have stayed there without a doubt. With all this talk about merchandise, it seems to me that people are completely losing sight of why Banksy opened the hotel there. That's what we should be talking and thinking about, rather than all of the nonsense and wind ups on this thread. So, if some of you do get the chance to go, tell us about the experience and what you have learnt, not about the profit opportunites.

The only facts are so far that I had a guy go to the hotel this morning and wait from open until close of the store and there was only postcards, coffee mugs and T-Shirts available. Everything else was not there. When he asked about the hooks they said they were sold out and also said no one ever bought one.
The staff insinuated that the prints and other items were part of a practical joke created by the artist.
Everything else you read or hear is rumor, innuendo and not based in reality.

Anybody with the slightest amount of knowledge about Banksy would not be surprised he would create some art that would only virtually exist. After all, if millions of people believe a certain piece exist, it actually does in the collective imagination. That is also art in my books. I say well done Mr Banksy. Lol. Banksy has brainwashed his fans so well. Seriously. Look at this defense everyone. I can not teach you ethereal thinking if you are limited by your surrounding reality. Weird for an art lover, they normally are a bit more open-minded about new concepts. Or maybe you are just upset because you were planning on making a profit with this. Tough. |
