Bitcoin, by chevyav53 on Dec 9, 2017 6:52:01 GMT 1, If your coins are held on your behalf with an exchange that gets hacked etc you lose your coins
if you store them yourself in your own cold wallet you are safer but if you lose the wallet physically or otherwise you are stuffed
coinfloor is an exchange but they cold store your coins for you in a vault so bit more like having gold in a bank that's got its own security
no guarantees though in any event I thought with Trezors hardware wallet there was a potential to recover your wallet in case of fire or damage. Something about a 12 word key? Yes you can recover if lost or stolen.

Typical idiot on the street controlled by the media. Anyone could have shorted bitcoin in the last year or more. CFD companies have enabled trading on crypto currencies for a long long time. They enable low IQ punters on the street like yourself to take leveraged bets on bitcoin and others.

So quick to insult. But in order to short investors would need large sums of capital.

Bitcoin, by londonfx on Dec 9, 2017 20:16:00 GMT 1, So with the ledger do you have to transfer them on and off the exchange each time? Is there a fee for it?
I use trezor, as my wallet.
There’s a small fee. But very very small under £5.
The only downside I have seen is that trezor only caters for bitcoin, ether and litcoin.
I took a punt with ripple and neo last week. But will have to find another wallet for them

Trezor works with any erc20 token which is a ton of different ones.

Can anyone recommend a wallet for ripple? What sites do people use to buy and sell ripple at the moment?
Again, silly questions from me but am totally out of my depth

I use Bittrex to trade ripple
The down side is you have to use bitcoin or ETH to purchase ripple
I believe bitstamp allows you to make a purchase via bank transfer. Kraken is another trading platform. But I couldn’t get on with it. As the verification process took too long

Yup supports any token on the ethereum blockchain. NEO is obviously not an erc20 so it wouldn't work and don't believe ripple is either.

Bitcoin, by 63schoefflin on Dec 10, 2017 2:16:53 GMT 1, Well, it sucks that I have to make this post but here is a copy of it from the EB site. If anyone has any IOTA stored in the desktop Read this and most likely pull it off:
by 63schoeffling on Sat Dec 09, 2017 6:52 pm Well guys, I hate to have to be the one to write this.... but I don't want anyone else being a victim here. I just got through DM'ing with one of the mods in the IOTA slack looking into what was going on with my desktop wallet and apparently there was a hacker who got into the actual GitHub site and redirected the recommended seed generator to get all of the seeds. I noticed all of my IOTA was sent to an address that was not generated by my wallet..... this is the address it was sent to: iotasear.ch/address/YTNJSWMXAWLHDYCDVTT9XQLJYQLOLUZBFMTQAXXHHGJDYLZEDUWORULUGNDPEGBYGEEGSG9FNQJWYGOBW
The Slack Mod confirmed it was taken by the hacker. Apparently, no online seed gens are safe at least at this point. DO NOT USE ANY ONLINE SEED GENS, even if they are from the official guidelines on setting up a wallet. The mod said what he does is make a 6X6 grid, fill in 27 spaces with A-Z and 9. The other spaces will be re-rolls. Then, get to rolling... can’t be replicated.
That had all my IOTA in it..... I feel like garbage right now since I will have to spend a lot of money and probably never accumulate that amount again (short of you guys buying art off me) but I had to come and at least post in here before i did anything else.
Stay safe out there, y'all. Sucks.

Bitcoin, by moron on Dec 12, 2017 12:43:46 GMT 1, What the fuck is an "online seed gen" Why do these people use these terms. Is a seed gen just another name for secure private password? It's amazing how people can create these e coin and promote them yet can't use plain language in advising people how to stay safe and secure regarding ownership and passwords.
On another note.
Why will there only be 21 million bitcoins mined?
What is the technical difference (as there is no physical difference) between a bitcoin and ethereum or other e coin?
Bitcoin is being traded as a commodity. In other words it's a bubble?
