The Next BIG THING in Art?, by treweman on Nov 8, 2017 2:31:59 GMT 1, While I do not have a finger on the pulse of the urban art community, I will say that I am always really excited for works by Pejac, either on the street or on a print. I feel that he has the ingenuity and skills that other [street] artists just don't possess. I agree with this. Although I donโt own any of his prints, I have made an effort to acquire an OG, to no avail. For me, I donโt give a flying hoot if Pejac becomes more popular, I think heโs damn good now and I donโt measure what I like by how popular he might be or might become.

The Next BIG THING in Art?, by christiangul on Nov 8, 2017 11:00:36 GMT 1, Kind of new (ish) to art, but I've already got tired of a lot of the same old stuff. As someone else stated here, the artists that are doing the same stuff over and over again has to decline. (Whatson and Chevrier are prime examples) Especially if the motive has no (deep/special) meaning.
-->To curse in church; but how exiting (over time) could it be to have some old icons from an 70's game on the wall...... My thoughts; as long as the art buyers are born in the 60's and 70's. When art buyers are born in the 80's-->, those pieces will loose its value. Just because that generation has no relation to this.
My "votes" go to Mehdi Ghadyanloo and Pejac.

Interesting points, but I don't agree entirely because if you are as you say newish to art as you dig deeper you will grow an appreciation for what has come before - often what many of the new artists study while getting their degrees, which many have. Rauschenberg, Basquiat, Warhol, Russian Propaganda Posters, etc. - so much great art. Harland Miller sites Rothko as a big influence in his work, for example.
My guess, as some have said, is that none of us know who the next big thing is. Unlikely anyone mentioned so far. It will resonate, and those who follow this scene will know it when they see it.
Just my opinion, of course!

I remember reading a post on here some time back that Whatson is an easy entry point into the urban art scene and I tend to agree. Since there will always be new collectors entering the scene I think Whatson's appeal will hold, certainly in the immediate future. I'm not saying he will be the next big thing is art, just that I believe there will always be a steady demand for his work.
As for who to watch - Pejac, Mehdi Ghadyanloo, Madsaki, Tomoo Gotika, Paul Insect, Reederone, Parra
Still think there is more to come from Banksy (maybe not in terms of new prints but believe his work will continue to rise in price), KAWS, Harland

The Next BIG THING in Art?, by cyberkid on Nov 8, 2017 16:14:59 GMT 1, I would mention the entourage from Kaws (he is breaking all records...) - artists like Josh Sperling and Sam Friedman. Asia will be more and more important for the new artists. A rising star is Tomoo Gokita from Japan. Check the current show by Mary Boone. Other artists....mentioned (many times) here on the board are Pejac, Pantone, Muretz, Oli Epp, Okuda, PEZ etc... What are your thoughts on VHILS? He's doing a lot of work in Asia.. its not my personal taste but this does not mean anything. vhils is creating his very own style with a high recognition value. he is fullfilling this two (important) basic criteria to make the next steps up.

Whatson should of reached out to ikea His fan base would explode in an ikea setting and the people they reach. His style is safe and not too edgy, use of bright colours appeals, grey tones used fits into many Morden interior design , just as long as the prices do not increase too much on release a safe long term hold .nearly scuppered the appeal with issues with copyright and too many releases but back on track.
Banksy canโt see much dramatic rises as in the past two years unless he releases something new or has another great pr exposure which usually coincides with a good auction results which gets buyers rushing in. The scenes changed and evolved , expensive now and even new artists come in at high prices
