Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by mushrooms on Dec 4, 2017 15:24:17 GMT 1, My info, based on Meet and Greet info and later correspondence with Jorna. In my opinion, Jorna does care about the customers, and is very responsive to any questions I have ever asked.
1 - Shipping in January. 2 - Will be shipped in custom crates. Shipping tests have been conducted and I trust they will arrive safely. 3 - Dimensions have changed a bit. More square than the prototype. 4 - Edition will be hand-signed. (This was said at the event, if I remember correctly.)
It was a great event. I spent too much time chatting with others at the Meet and Greet and never got around to meeting the artist. By the time I went to see him, he had already left. Someone from the festival tapped me on the shoulder and gestured me to follow them. The ALF team contacted AWW after he pulled a "Houdini" and arranged for a meeting with him. I was like, "No, this is not needed, no worries!" They insisted. Way above and beyond and I was a bit embarrassed. In life, you snooze you lose. A.L.F. reps didn't see things that way. When we met with AWW, he was gracious and kind. When I mentioned I enjoyed Human Flow very much, he really opened up and he was genuinely interested in my thoughts. Short, sweet, and very memorable.
Can't wait for the next Light Festival. "Medium is the Message" is the theme. I have already reached out to OBEY and the Light Festival in hopes of making a match. We'll see. Both parties seemed interested.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by Gentle Mental on Dec 4, 2017 16:25:48 GMT 1, 90% of artists talked about in this forum - make some form of political art.
Including our beloved banksy and fairey - who made millions too - off art about exploitation, migration, syria, abuse, middle east... let's not kid ourselves...
Like wei wei, these artists sold and profited - from "awareness raising" work on human sufferings.
These is one difference though - wei wei was imprisoned and beaten for taking a risk bigger than any vandal could (or would).
And he didn't even have to do it. He was already a millionaire artist when he was arrested.
But he did it anyway. Because he felt he had to.
And that is why Ai Weiwei is important.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by mushrooms on Dec 11, 2017 16:03:27 GMT 1, From an email sent to Meet & Greet attendees. Don't know if it was shared to all customers.
"Several prototypes of the artwork have been reviewed by Ai Weiwei in his studio in Berlin. After completing the artist proofs, the 'limited edition' is now in production. The artist adjusted the original dimensions to 50x50x25 cm. We will organise a new pick-up time early January. If you donโt have the opportunity to come and collect your artwork in Amsterdam, we can also arrange delivery for you. We work together with a professional company specialized in the delivery of artworks. "

We are pleased to inform you that in short-term the last fifty artworks will be perfected and approved by Ai Weiwei. We anticipate that mid March, you will be able to collect the very special and signed artwork. We will inform you in due time about the exact date.
If you do not have the opportunity to collect the artwork, you can also choose to have โthinlineโ shipped to you. By reason of quality being of the utmost importance to us, furthermore because we want to be certain that you will receive โthinlineโ in perfect condition, we have chosen to use a professional art dealer for the delivery. We also recommend insuring the artwork. If you want to have โthinlineโ delivered to you, we kindly ask you to inform us as soon as possible. Please be informed that shipping- and insurance costs are on own account.
Kind regards,

I am looking forward to finally receive my piece but I am really annoyed by the staff of the Amsterdam Light Festival, it is a shame.

Ai Weiwei Amsterdam Light Festival edition, by New Art Editions on Mar 4, 2018 14:53:02 GMT 1, The dimensions of the wooden crate are 64 x 64 x 39 cm Weight approx 30 kg.
The light sculpture comes bubble wrapped in a cardboard box, which is placed in a wooden crate which inner-side is covered with 4 cm thick foam.
The use of a professional art shipper makes sense, for despite of the expert packaging the shipment needs special care due to the fragile nature of the work.
The sculpture itself is stunning.
